Summary: Took me to a different world....I SIMPLY LOVE GRISHAM
Review: I have read every one of Grisham's books and enjoy them throughly. This one was not an exception. I was moved by the intensity of the scenes in the book and by Grisham's honesty. The way he expresses the emotions just sway you into a completely different world. Also a very informative book.

PS Can someone please give me Grisham's e-mail address? Thanks

Summary: Lost is the "quagmire" of the jungle!
Review: Starts out well but soon gets lost in a lengthy and seeminly never ending description of a trip to find a missionary in a remote part of the Brazilian jungle. Aside from the story of a very dysfunctional family who are heirs to their fathers billions (which he wills to his illegitimate daughter...the missionary) and ensuing fight for the money is the dysfunctional lawyer, who fights his own demons and somehow manages, it seems, to have a "spiritual awakening." The story does not pick up again until the last chapters and then in short measure seems to finish off leaving one wanting something more. This story was definitely lacking something for me.

Summary: One of Grisham's best ...
Review: This book was surprisingly "deep" to me - while Grisham always deals with human issues/emotions, this time he really dug in and explored some heavy topics. At the same time, he was able to entertain and keep the reader in suspense, which is what we expect from him. I am privileged to have a friend that is very similar to the character of Rachel, so it was easy for me to believe people like her do exist. Bravo to John Grisham for stepping out and trying something a little different, something with so much substance.

Summary: Curious Incidents; A Disappointing Book
Review: A rather curious incident surrounds my reading this book. While walking the streets of New York late on cold February night, I came across the city's 4 floor Barnes & Noble. I had no intention of buying anything, as I was reading a novel at the time (Mr. Updike's reflection on the acceptance of one's mortality, "Rabbit at Rest"), but it was so dreadfully cold that I needed to step inside. After relishing a very hot cup of Starbuck's coffee in their cafe, I sat down in one of their thoughtfully placed chairs and continued my reading of the life of Harry Angstrom. Having very little desire to return to the harsh weather outside, I read in the good bookstore until I finished the novel. Still wishing to remain in the warmth of the Barnes & Noble, I picked up a copy of "The Old Man and the Sea", and sat back down in my old comfortable chair and read until I finished that (for those of you who have not enjoyed Hemingway's classic, I shall write here that it is very short, and it is possible to finish the novel in little time.) I put the novel back in its place and was preparing to leave when I chanced to meet my good friend Mr. Gooden entering the store, also to escape the cold. He recommended to me Mr. Grisham's "The Testament." So I returned to my old chair with this new literary delight, tossed the boy who was sitting in my chair onto the floor, and commenced to read. I finished just as the store was preparing to close. Unfortunately the novel was a disappointment, and I feel my four hours sitting in that chair with it were wasted. Putting on my hat, I left the store (to the delight of all the employees who I suppose had assumed I had taken up a permanent residence in their literary shop) and left, with a sour look upon my face. How good Mr. Gooden could have recommended such a novel, I am not sure. I advise the readers of my article to ignore Mr. Grisham's latest work for it is a boring, badly written, inferior work.

Summary: Excellent! One of Grisham's best books yet.
Review: John Grisham out did himself with this book. I was spell bound throughout the book. I felt like I was actually there experiencing this adventure of finding the unknown daughter.

This is one of Grisham's best.

Summary: This book and "The Chamber" are Grisham's least likeable
Review: I've read each of his books, liked all of them except for The Chamber. This is the worst of his books. I kept reading with the hope that it would get better. The plot in unbelievable, there is MUCH TOO MUCH monotonous writing about riding on the river in the jungle, then the end cuts off quickly and doesn't really make much sense. I will be more cautious before buying another one of his novels and am looking for another favorite author.

Summary: Not your usual John Grisham
Review: When I read a John Grisham book, I expect to be entertained. The Testament did that, and more. This book is a story of great success, terrible failure, wasted lives, and finally redemption. Grisham carries this off in such a way that you feel better for having read the book. That's more than entertainment.

Summary: Another Grisham masterpiece
Review: This book was great from the first word. Grisham was able to drive a number of emotions with this book. I had the feeling I was right there in Brazil with all of the danger and at the same time I was back in the states hoping Troy's family would somehow dig themselves deeper in debt. Like his last few books I would have liked to see a happier ending but this book kept me excited all the way through.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Totally entertaining from beginning to end.
Review: From the reader to the text, I was completely captivated by this book. I had a hard time turning it off and looked forward to listening to more.
