Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Nice, but not outstanding
Review: As I have read all of John Grisham's books, I liked this one, but it certainly did not come to, e.g., "The Street Lawyer"'s level.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Easy reading from Grisham, and even a little different.
Review: Ya we all know John Grisham has written book after book about the same subject. So I figured why would the Testament be different. Well I was wrong, this book incorporates not only Grishams knowledge of law, but also his ability to write fiction. It brings you on an exciting journey to areas in which many of us will never see. A recommended reading if you enjoy Grisham.

Summary: Grisham at his best
Review: This book must be one of Grisham's finest. A fast moving and honest expose of life in America that is out of control. The author has the courage to tackle difficult issues that may be painful and unpopular... but real and revealing.

An exceptional true rendering of how a life can be and is redeemed.

Summary: Extremely Entertaining with a Soul-Searching Experience
Review: When I began to read this book, I was amazed by the talent that Grisham has. He's very descriptive and accurate. He creates questions in your mind and then later answers them. He doesn't leave you hanging as he does in other books. Nate is a character that everyone can relate to. Read this book!! You'll kick yourself if you don't. PRP

Summary: GREAT and ORIGINAL!
Review: I was not incredibly excited about reading this book as I read less than flattering reviews, however, loving Grisham novels as I do I gave it a shot. AND IT WAS GREAT! The story was quite different as it centered on a recovering alcoholic and addict as he searched out an unsuspecting heir to a huge fortune. Nate O'Reilly (the main character) found himself in the Pantanal of Brazil in search of a woman who did not want to be found. Meanwhile, back in the States, the other heirs, all greedy underachievers at best, hired lawyers to stake their claim to a fortune they were rightfully left out of. Normally Grisham's tails take us through court room dramas or other legal excitement but in The Testament, all such legal matters took a back seat behind an interesting and witty character as he soul searches and tries to overcome his past. Don't believe the reviews and GIVE IT A SHOT!

Summary: Exciting, fast moving, suspenseful, with a well done ending.
Review: I find most of Gresham's books get my attention immediately and have the ability of holding it. This book has a different flavor than his other books. Not all court room drama, but enough. A story with a personal note mixed with compassion and remorse. The ending was well done. Not like some of his books that seem to end abruptly. As if John was just tired of writing.

Summary: Fantastic Book!
Review: I read the book in the last week and I really enjoyed reading it. This is my second John Grisham novel. The first was "The Street Lawyer", which I enjoyed reading as well as this one. As an Exchange Student in the Bible Belt here in Beaumont, Texas, I saw and experienced some really strange things concerning christanity/religion and such things. Many christian churches here, I would describe more than sects with strange beliefs and I'm an opponent of their attempts to missionary other people. Because I think every faith is exactly the same right and wrong like the other ones. What I didn't like that much was how the natural religion/faith of this native tribe was described. Surely they are opponents (missionary and "medicine man") but you can't just dismiss their beliefs as wrong. I see it now different about missions, but what I still do not like is, when missionaries are sent by churches who think everything what's in the Bible is literally true and try to convince others that they are right. This is dogmatic and doctrinary. Dogmas and Doctrines are an abuse of the sense behind faith and religion. So far, my little criticsm. But, however, I enjoyed reading this book.

Summary: By far the worst Grisham yet.
Review: A fascinating beginning that drops off into what appears to be Grisham's effort to show the world that he's been to South America and has an eye for detail. There are some very interesting parts to this book, but overall, very disappointing for this Grisham fan.

Summary: the worst john grisham book ever . did he write this?
Review: what happened to john grisham ? did he need to fulfill a book contract ? minimal storyline , abysmal plot and those are the positives. if this keeps up i'll be forced to start writing.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Grisham on a different tack
Review: If you read Grisham to engage yourself in what one reviewer below called the "complex legal issues" that the author often covers, then this book might disappoint, because much of it occurs away from the courtroom. But if you want Grisham's patented pace and witty dialogue, along with characters who have heart, then pick up your copy.

This book seems to be the next step in a progression of Grisham's, in which he gets to expound a little on something he cares deeply about (faith in God). His most recent work (The Street Lawyer) was called "a book with heart." The Testament is a book with heart and soul.

Bottom line: if your expectation is getting legal suspense, look elsewhere. If you're looking for characters who come alive, dialogue that makes you laugh, and narrative that makes you think and feel, then this will be a good addition to your library and a great read.
