Rating: Summary: Good reading! Review: You may call me a John Grisham 'habitué', since I usually buy each new novel written by him even if the subject doesn't intrigue me very much. While the last two novels- the Partner and the Steet Lawyer- were as far as I'm concerned extremely disappointing, the Testament was quite good. The combination of adventure and high court drama is very enjoyable. Even the end of the book was very touching and not as expected as the last two novels. However, I believe that the sudden change in the main character behaviour and way of living is not very convincing. Does Grisham try to portray his own life through this lawyer? From a low life lawyer, most of the time drunk and unconscious, the main character becomes almost a Saint... Too bad that Grisham tend to embrace such old 'clichés'. Despite that, the book is very entertaining...Enjoy the reading!
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed this book alot, great ending Review: I thought this book was great, but not as good as "The Street Lawyer". The "Testament" would make a great movie, with alot of adventure and many story lines to keep people watching. Great ending who would of thought!!!!! I can not wait for the next Grisham.
Rating: Summary: This book is spiritual and funny, the best Grisham yet! Review: I'm an avid Grisham reader, before i read this book though I had yet to find one that topped "The Partner". "The Testament" does by a mile. The characters are so human you feel like you know them, and you completly sympathize, if not empathize with the main charaters. You loathe the adult Phelan children, and the south american setting will capture your imagination. Grisham also includes a religious theme that is absent from his previous books, but that only enhances the plot, and in no way detracts from the characters. It helps you to understand their motovations, and in the main characters case you can easily see how Rachel's faith effects him. This is an amazing book, good for die hard Grisham fan's and first timer's alike.
Rating: Summary: Nice Reading Vacation Review: I enjoyed the book. I don't have time to read novels very often, so I took a three-day reading "vacation" to read this. I really liked the transformation that took place in Nate O'Riley. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the ending was a little too neat, but, who likes loose ends? And really, if you understand the mindset of a missionary like Rachel, the ending was perfect. I appreciated the way Grisham presented God and His true nature.
Rating: Summary: One of Grisham's Best Review: This book almost kept me as interested as "A Time to Kill" and "The Firm". I'm pleased that it seems as though Grisham has regained his form. Of course this book folowed the same course as most of his books - fast beginning, slowing down to describe intricasies, and an interesting, if not, surprising end. Definitely recommendable. I wonder when it will be in the theatres!
Rating: Summary: This is definitely not a "have to read" book. Review: Although I found the part of the story which took place in Brazil interesting, I found myself leafing through pages just to make the effort to get through the book. I personally did not like any of the heirs and so it was hard to read their life stories. Hope Mr. Grisham can create a more interesting book in the future.
Rating: Summary: Kind of Predictble, but Mesmerizing Nevertheless Review: Grisham's novels are becoming more predictable, but his writing style is captivating, nevertheless. If you follow the "good guy", you already know the "who". Because Grisham's style is mesmerizing, you let it carry you to the "how". If Grisham can put more mystery in the who as well as the how, he'll score more than a "triple play".
Rating: Summary: Great. Review: It's refreshing to read a good novel with no sex, no needless-bloody killings, and still contain good moral values. It makes you honestly ask, "Would I rather be rich or have common sense." It made me proud to be who I am and proud of what I achieved.
Rating: Summary: Another John Grisham Classic! Review: IF YOU READ THIS IT WILL SPOIL THE ENDING FOR YOU One thing that gets me is the anti climax endings that his characters always have, I'm not saying that it's bad, I liked the book and have always liked John's work but for once can't the good guy win hands down!!
Rating: Summary: Attention keeper from beginning to end. Review: This book started out with a bang and I wondered where it could go from there but John Grisham in his true form took you through and on a journey of family rivalry when money is involved. He educated you on a new form of legal documentation that I had never heard of.
