Rating: Summary: DRY READ Review: This latest novel by Grisham lacked much if any excitement shared by his previous works. I would pass on this one!
Rating: Summary: THE FIRST 100 PAGES Review: THE OPENING WAS A GOOD IDEA FOR A STORY. I WAS VERY INTERESTED. ABOUT HALFWAY INTO THE BOOK I WAS GETTING NERVOUS. I WAS RIGHT. WHAT A LONG DRAWN OUT AFFAIR IT WAS. NOT UP TO PAR FOR THIS WRITTER.
Rating: Summary: Fun reading Review: Boy, am I glad I didn't see Amazon's reader reviews before I read this book. I would've been negatively influenced and I would never have given myself the opportunity to read one of the most enjoyable stories I've read in a long time. C'mon people, we're not talking Ayn Rand here...no deep, philosophical symbolism...this book is pure entertainment at it's finest. Take it for what it is and get lost in it. This book is lot of fun.
Rating: Summary: The Testament : And then? Review: Like all Grisham books, this one gets you in right from the beginning with a pacy opening and complicated, interesting characters. I found myself enjoying the journey, visualising the jungle with it`s beauty and dangers, involved with the natives and understanding and identifying with the conflicts of the troubled lawyer. However , I soon started to realise that we were running short of pages to satisfactorily conclude the adventure. At the end I felt let down with the lack of closure and suspicious that we`d been set up for a sequel. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Rating: Summary: Very Good - although not his best! Review: Unlike many of the reviewers, I liked the end of the book. I dothink that John Grisham could make a very good sequel. If this wasyour first Grisham book, don't make it you last. Some of his books are entirely different, try The Client which is my favorite. The movie with Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Curtis is great too! END
Rating: Summary: Not a waste (of time or money) Review: Waited to buy the paperback after hearing bits and pieces of the hardcover version on Radio Reader. I agree with the reviewer on 12/13/99 who called it an "Exquisite Little Parable". Grisham is not as profound as Graham Greene, but he's more entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Where was the surprise ending? Review: I bought The Testament December 30 and was finished by noon on the 31st. It began quickly and captured my attention within the first two chapters. I was enthralled until the last part of the book then I was deeply disappointed in the finish. Mr. Grisham has done this before, left the story hanging and a lot of unanswered questions (such as in The Client and The Firm). I really was hoping for an ending like The Partner, where there was definitely a surprise. I was disappointed that the lawyers actually got their money from the heirs, and the fact the heirs got any money at all. I will get his next book from the library and save myself some cash.
Rating: Summary: Action, Please? Review: Wow! What a stunning DEAD END! This book is a serious mark against the Grisham that America has had the privilege to enjoy. Gone are the days of fast-moving, action-packed, page-turning suspense thrillers from this author. Don't get me wrong, THE FIRST 100 PAGES WERE GOOD! After that, though, save your time and do something more important and exciting, like laundry.
Rating: Summary: NEEDED MORE DEPTH Review: I enjoyed this book but felt the characters needed more fleshing out. I didn't particularly like anyone person in the story with the exception of Jevy. I feel the ending leaves things open for a sequel (which is not Grisham's style) but it's an idea. What will Nate do with the trust, how will he spend it and how much of a fuss will the spoiled brats make when they find out the whole story?
Rating: Summary: A light Book. (full of AIR) Review: When I read the back cover of the book I get interested in it. when I began, I thought it would have some kind of intelligent plot. After having read it; This is what i have to say: - The book have some of the basic principles of live one should apply. - Gives a description of what Pantanal and its people look like ( And I would like to visit it some day). I read the Book in 3 days, I could not stop reading, but i think it was because i was looking for fulfill my apetite (it never happend).
