Rating: Summary: This Book is Great! Got me hooked on Grisham! Review: The Testament was my first Grisham book that I have read. I was pleasantly surprised. My only criticism about the book was that the greedy relatives got too much! They deserved nothing. Reading about the greedy children was the most entertaining part. It was also nice to see the hero have some standard human flaws - so unlike heros in most books. Would definitely recommend!
Rating: Summary: The Book of Adventures Review: This was definately one of the best novels I have ever read. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read an excellent book. This was the first John Grisham book I have ever read and I am positive it will not be my last. I couldn't put this book down once I started reading it because it was so wonderful! This book is definately worth reading. This book is about a multi-billionaire who wants to end his life. He leaves a testament giving his eleven billion dollar estate to his illegitimate daughter, Rachel Lane. His lawyer sends a litigator, Nate, to go find her. He finds her after many dangerous incidents. She shows no interest in signing the document. Nate returned to Washington to find that he was appointed as Rachel's lawyer. It is now Nate's job to find Rachel and find out what to do with the money. This is an adventurous, suspenseful novel which will definately attract you to Grisham's work. This book not only grabs your attention with its descriptions, it teaches you about Brazil and much information on litigation. This was an excellent book and I would recommend it to anyone who simply wants to read a great book.
Rating: Summary: A human story, NOT a courtroom drama. Review: This book is much different from the other Grisham novels I've read. A very small part of this book occurs in the courtroom. Rather the book focuses on Nate O'Reilly's struggle to overcome the vices that have ruined his families and career. Don't read this if you want a lawyer story. This book is a human story. I soaked it up to the very last paragraph. If this book doesn't make you want to live a better life, it's time to take a step back and evaluate things.
Rating: Summary: im kinda disappointed. Review: here i was thinking i was going to be blown away much like i was with the Runaway Jury (i think that was his best book), but in reality this book was just lacking that Grisham flair i always enjoy reading. It's almost as if he was trying to make a marketable movie script instead of a book. Like the guy before me wrote, he did an excellent job of describing the characters. But then it became truly a snore a thon where i was found wondering when it would be over. I always enjoyed the court precedings that Grisham describes and this book was just completely lacking in that area. But instead of hardcore law practice, his attention was more turned toward human failure, spirituality, and a lot of flowery details of the country that made a lot of it seem like a travel book. It just wasn't very exciting. I found myself in suspense for maybe a few pages at most, and then it was always reveled quite hastily what would happen and the precedings after words was just me waiting for the other characters to gain knowledge about the case. It was just not simply not one of his better works. Not even close.
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: I have read all of John Grisham's books, and I enjoyed this one, although it dragged in some places, and there seemed to be too many things happening at once. I enjoyed the character of Nate, since practically everyone can relate to his flaws in some way. I liked the "spiritual" aspect of the book; however, I was disappointed in the ending. John Grisham's books never end the way I want them to, and I wish he would keep women and their love of romance & happy endings in mind from time to time. I wanted Nate and Rachel to get married and live happily ever after in the jungles of Brazil being co-missionaries!
Rating: Summary: The Testament Review: John - time to hang up the pen I'm afraid. Let real authors like Scott Turow and Richard North Patterson write the lawyer books. The Testament was one long bore.
Rating: Summary: Potential toilet-paper. Review: Started out good...then it turned to some kinda Indiana Jones mumbo-jumbo in the jungle. The only thing that kept me going was the fact that I thought that there was going to a climax at the end where the plot would take some unexpected turn. That, of course, didn't happen. Frankly, nothing else really interesting happened. I can't belive I've wasted all this time reading this book. Time that I will never ever get back. Gone forever. What a waste. There are so many other GOOD books out there, please read them instead.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: The main disappointment was due the the books by Grisham I had read previously. This one is so inferior - I felt I was reading something rushed, too commercial. This doesn't prevent me, though, from remaining a faithful Grisham reader.
Rating: Summary: A Testament to a dying plot Review: At time of writing, I'm the 610th reviewer of this book. SO , I wont be long in judging it. First 100 pages: 5 Stars, brilliant desciption of most members of the Phelan clan Cue to Brazil: 1 star, A sub tropical yawnathon Climax: 2 stars, so predictableWill I read ever read Grisham again ? HE is human after all...THis book shows it..he is entitled to mistakes
Rating: Summary: The Testament Review: This book is hardly recognizable as a novel written by John Grisham. I was expecting something as outstanding as The Runaway Jury or The Pelican Brief. What a disappoint from a writer as talented as Grisham. I feel one star is overly generous.
