Rating: Summary: one of his best Review: I am Grisham fan, so of course i bought the testament when i saw it, but i found this book better than the most, it was not only complex and exciting as normal, but the characters were much more different than most of his books, which made was a great reading experience.
Rating: Summary: never again Review: I gave up on Grisham after reading The Firm, The Pelican Brief. The Client and The Rainmaker. I kept trying to discover what all the fuss was about and decided to give it one more chance. After reading The Testament, however, I am more disappointed than ever. I was able to finish this book only by skipping through the last half very quickly. I was unable to determine whether this story ws intended to be a travelogue, a spiritual tale, a legal "thriller", or a human character study; perhaps it's all four rolled into one, and in only 400 or so pages.I, too, like many other reviewers, liked the beginning of the story with the will and death of Troy Phelan. However, once the story proceeds to the Amazon it bogs down terribly. The ongoing "soap opera" of the Phelan family seems right out of daytime TV. A family this dysfunctional could only exist in that environment. The ending is anti-climactic and not very original. I don't understand the point of the story. Never again will I waste my time on a Grisham title.
Rating: Summary: YOU JUST CAN"T STOP READING THIS BOOK Review: When i start reading this book, since it is my first inspirance whith John Gricham,I was sceptic. But now i am going to buy more of his books hoping to find something this much interesting.I recomend the book" Testament", to everyone!I am sure you will enjoy...
Rating: Summary: Not What I Expected, But Great Just The Same Review: John Grisham's books have always succeeded in entertaining me, and The Testament is no exception. This story doesn't take place in the typical Southern setting, which was kind of a nice change. Rather than focusing on some complex conspiracy or riveting courtroom drama, this story deals a lot with basic human nature, particularly greed, which is equally interesting. There is also a distinct relgious element to the story. I am not a religious guy, and I was impressed at Grisham's ability to deal with religion without sounding "preachy". The Testament is a good example of the fact that Grisham is not just a "formula" author, and I would recommend this book to anyone, whether they are a Grisham fan or not.
Rating: Summary: Page Turner Review: The testament is a book you will not want to put down. It is well researched and the main character Nate has his problems. Nate the character is so well written he comes alive in your mind the story wants to jump off the page and come alive.
Rating: Summary: Not the Grisham we know and love Review: I found The Testament the least enjoyable of Grisham's books. It is as if he "got religion" and wanted to share the word in good missionary form. Some of the book was informative, however. His description of the Pantanal in South America was interesting. For this reason I gave the book two stars. I generally pass on the Grisham books to friends but won't be recommending this particular one.
Rating: Summary: Best in a long time! Review: John Grisham is back to himself! This is his best book in quite a while & ranks right up there with "The Firm" and "A Time to Kill!" I've read everything he's written & can't wait to read what's next.....
Rating: Summary: Very Compelling, I had to read every page. Review: I have read many of John Grishams books and this is the best one that i have read. With a very compelling story it lures you to read the whole thing and not want to put it down.
Rating: Summary: Partying vs. Peace Review: Surrounded by cynical, self-absorbed, and shallow people, the main lawyer chooses a path which leads him away from that existence to a more meaningful one. If asked the question, "What are the most important things you do?", the lawyer would originally have answered something like,"Sue people, party, get laid, and get the best time I can out of this miserable existence." At the end of the book he is at peace and has a reason for living. Since I went through that same process in my life I found this aspect of the book interesting.
Rating: Summary: What a book Review: This was the first Grisham book I have read and it has made me want to read as many as I can! The book as an exciting begining which makes you want to carry on. The whole book is one thrill to read and I am happy to say "well done John a very good book indeed!
