Summary: Easy, but uneventful, read
Review: This book was a very easy read, and it did keep my attention. I kept waiting for something to happen, which never did. This story would have had much more substance to it without all of the insignificant, unending details. Instead of detailing the smallest, irrelevant event, I would have like to have seen better development of the characters, mainly the family. I feel that the majority of this story was done just to fill in the pages. All in all, it's worth a read as long as you don't expect too much.

Summary: I got through it only because my plane was delayed ...
Review: This is the fifth Grisham book I have read, and so far, the worst. I am still a fan, and will continue to read his works, but I hope this book was an exception. There is little of the law-related drama that Grisham is so talented in describing. Instead, mostly a monotonous story about a journey through the Brazilian backwaters. While Grisham has a flair for story-telling, this type of action/adventure is not his forte. The high points in the novel belong almost exclusively to the descriptions of the Phelan family and their respective lawyers (Grisham seems to be particularly talented at bringing the law industry to the level of the layperson). I did enjoy following the evolution of the main character, but not enough to carry the book. That combined with the lack of legal drama made it a fairly dull read. I bought it because of a six-hour layover - I was as glad when I got through the book as I was about getting on my plane. And on the plane it stayed; it really doesn't belong on my bookcase. I just started The Runaway Jury ... my faith in Grisham may be restored.

Summary: The book for the typical simple American
Review: If you're an American then you'll definately give this book 5 stars. Buy the book quick - this is surely something for you: no difficult words, simple yet totally unreal story, the hero turns from very baddy lawyer to a very gooooddie one in a couple hundred pages. This is another example of Grisham's new style of work: turn a bad guy into a Robin Hood type. Hooray! If you're not American then spend your hard earned money on something else or at least on Grisham's first 4 books - they were 1000% better.

Summary: W.O.W.!
Review: When The Testament was delivered to my doorstep, I ripped open the package and started thumbing through the first few pages.

Incredibly, I was hooked from then on. The description and the way the book is written is very good. Although I can't say that The Testament is John Grisham's best book (and I have read most of his books), it certainly is one of the best.

The Testament might seem slightly exagerrated to some, but the storyline itself saves the book.

I could hardly put down the book from the day I started reading it.

And if I gave David Baldacci's The Simple Truth 4 stars, this book definitely deserves twice that, out of 5.

Great effort, and I'll be looking forward to reading The Brethren.

Summary: one of his best
Review: I couldn't put it down! It is excellent. The characters seem so real - great storyline. Keeps you guessing up until the last page. My favorite was The Runaway Jury - super reading. Looking forward to reading The Brethren! Thanks John for such exciting books!

Summary: I would have given it 0 stars if I could...
Review: This is perhaps the worst legal thriller I have ever read. I enjoyed Runaway Jury & Rainmaker, so I have liked some of Grisham's previous efforts, but this has to be the 1) lamest, 2) laziest, 3) most boring, 4) most sodden ending (yes, sodden is the perfect word) effort I have ssen by a major writer in a long time. Grisham should retire. This novel would not have been published without his name on it.

Summary: Grisham does it again
Review: John Grisham is one of my favorite authors and in The Testament he has once again written a novel that I could not put down. I especially liked the spiritual searching aspect of this novel by the character Nate. Also Rachel presented the gospel plain and simple and lived it as well. A true role model for many of us today. If you are a Christian as I am you will appreciate this novel and Grisham's others as well because they are "clean". I also appreciate the fact that he spends time building churches in poorer countries and donates money to missions causes. Wish there were more authors like him!

Summary: glad it fell into my hands
Review: I read some of the not-so-favorable reviews and although I had already started reading this book I continued on. I'm glad I did. Definitly different than the other Grisham books I've read, which I found refreshing. I liked that it was not predictable as other writers tend to get. Nice change of pace!

Summary: A Grisham Impostor
Review: There is no way the man who wrote Runaway Jury, Pelican Brief and The Firm wrote this stupefying snore of a story. When I pick up a Grisham I anticipate characters I will love and hate, and suspense that keeps me reading all night. This one's a sure-cure for insomnia.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: As usual, a very good read.
Review: I really enjoyed it. It was difficult to put down. It even entered my dreams in an intense sort of way. It was a very good read.
