Summary: The Testament is even worse than The Chamber.
Review: This has to be Grisham's worst outing yet. The story about the search through Brazil is so tedious and boring that I nearly threw the book against the wall. I finished it merely out of a morbid curiousity. I was surprised by the ending, however, in that it didn't have the requisite Grisham-read-like-a-screenplay-and-fade-to-black quality. I am a true Grisham fan, but I would not recommend The Testament to my worst enemy.

Summary: ... just the best in modern fiction!
Review: I've read all ten novels by John Grisham and every book was a great piece of contemporary writing art. Grisham is a master of modern and fascinating fiction. It makes you stay awake for some nights, because you can't stop reading. Mr. Grisham, I can't wait to get your next book in 2000 !!!

Summary: A serious but nevertheless entertaining mixture
Review: One of the world's richest men dies leaving an estate of a mind-boggling amount. This is the start of the latest John Grisham, so I expected an assassination or two to occur before divvying up the money. Not so. It is a more serious but nevertheless entertaining mixture. Its plot encompasses the following themes. Disgraceful behaviour of second generations of wealthy entrepreneurs. A look at the awful treatment by the entire Americas of native people. Harshness of missionary work. Power of prayer. Crassness of large greedy law firms. How money influences many professionals giving testimony. Shady legal practices when deposing potential witnesses. At its heart is Brazil's Indian Affair's Agency. An investigation in 1967 revealed that it distributed smallpox and tuberculosis germ-.infected clothing to the Indians. Deadly bacteria fell over their villages, dropped from planes and helicopters. In 1990, different but still deadly practices continue, and go unpunished. Grisham drops on us a collection of unforgettable characters. I found myself casting the inevitable movie as I went through the book. Tom Hanks as the suicidal alcoholic lawyer, Nate O'Riley. He may be the only one who can get justice done in the estate case under challenge by dozens of greedy, lazy, relatives, (and greedy, though hard working, lawyers.) Jody Foster as the altruistic missionary who has set aside worldly things to play a useful role in the world, placing herself in danger. Michael Douglas as Josh Stafford, head lawyer and Jack Lemon as the Judge. Troy Phelan who amassed power of almost fantasy proportions knows his end is around the corner. He seeks a way to die in a spectacular manner. One that in itself makes headlines, and one whose other ramifications through his various wills causes an earthquake amongst his unattractive relatives. Perhaps though, in the end he hopes it will result in doing good for the world. It has only a slim chance. Still, when you are dead, can you be accused of taking slim chances? Grisham's new book has wide appeal.

Summary: best yet???
Review: First of all, how the hell those who wrote before me know what's the book like if it hasn't been released yet????, second, I give it 5 stars, because I've read every single other John Grishman book published so far, and I've given them all that same rating, I'm sure he won't screw up this time, since every book he writes is better than the previous one, PS: the e-mail preview makes it look like I'm right :o)

Summary: Hard to believe!
Review: Incredible, amazing, shocking, and perhaps too good to be true. It's hard to describe how I feel about John Grisham's latest because I haven't read it yet. And I wonder how any of the six reviewers who have posted their critiques could have read it either when it doesn't even arrive in bookstores until February 2. And that's just American bookstores! One reviewer claims he received his copy from a book club. What book club? And who do you have to sleep with (or have phone sex with) to get a copy that far in advance? I have a friend who works in the publishing field and according to him, no advanced copies of this book were distributed (or if so, in very limited quantities). So pardon my astonishment, but how did book readers in Indonesia and Russia get a hold of this book? The answer: It's very likely that they didn't. And looking over the reviews, their lack of specifics confirms this suspicion. Just a bunch of raves reviews that could have been written about any previous book by Grisham (or any number of legal thriller authors for that matter). So who's writing these reviews and why? Does Grisham really need their support? He is the biggest selling novelist in the country (and presumably the world). No amount of reviews, negative or positive, are going to have any significant effect on his sales. So to all those Grisham fans (and publicists?), please refrain from tapping out your comments until you actually have read the book.

Summary: The best yet and I have read them all!
Review: I think each time I read one of his new books I think that it can not be any better than the lastbut it always is! Only wish he could write more in a shorter period of time. My husband and I look forward to each new book.

Summary: The Verdict Is In: It's A Winner!!!
Review: Is there anything our favorite legal "eagle" can't do? The only way it could have been any more realistic was if it was written in Latin. (Relax, it's not!)

It's another fast paced thriller that takes you through all the trials (get it?) and tribulations of our messy law system, but wraps it up neatly in the end. And what an ending it is! You'll never guess it either!

The only part I wasn't entirely sure of was the symbolism of the young female law clerk, but sometimes his books can be read on so many levels, it's hard to keep track.

All in all a great offering from a great novelist. The best parts call to mind the workings of a young Turow or Patterson. He's almost enough to make you like lawyers. Just kidding! (That's a joke - the just kidding part.)

Summary: Currently the best in the genre !!!
Review: Grisham has become the best known American writer in Russia. This story is truly his best in years. Captivating plot, a keen insight into the legal system. Gripping, absorbing, thrilling, unputdownable ! A must for any Grisham fan, and a cool chance to become one for the uninitiated readers.
