Rating: Summary: Somewhat Disappointing Review: CEREMONY IN DEATH was not as good as I expected. I felt kinda...disappointed. I wonder why. The book had several copy-editing problems, for which I don't blame Nora Roberts aka J. D. Robb but the publisher. I think if the same book was written by another author, maybe I could have been satisfied with it. But with Nora/J.D., I always expect the best because I know she can do it.
The sexual tension between hero and heroine wasn't as blazing as the previous ones. Her previous books all contained some sort of dark moments between hero and heroine; however, CEREMONY didn't really have any dark moment between them.
As for the mystery part, it's not hard to guess who did it and why the person did it in the beginning. In other word, it was very predictable! Nora/J.D. tries to confuse the readers with some false clues, etc.; however, who cares when the readers already know
that those clues are false? (esp. for me, thanks to my avid Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie reading)
I think CEREMONY was average. But because I enjoyed the previous books in the series, I'll look forward to reading VENGEANCE IN DEATH, the next one in the series
Rating: Summary: Great continuing saga of Eve Dallas, homicide detective Review: A bit gruesome, but good detail on the family of the murdered policeman and good development of Peabody, Eve's assistant. Some readers might want more action on the personal relationship between Eve and Roarke, but I'm not ready to turn Eve from detective (the main thrust of the series, as I see it)to rich stay-at-home mom. If the relationship goes too fast, the series will have to end because there will be no place for the romance to go. I only wish that the homicides could be more mentally challenging and less outrageously bloody
Rating: Summary: Evil is alive & well in the the future..... Review: Ah, this book brought out the Celtic in me, also Roarke showed His Celtic/Irish roots a little more fully. Officer Peabody has turned into a real asset & a down right interesting person. Much more of her background was reveled, she is a perfect foil for Eve's intense nature. I'm still so enjoying the play between Eve & Roarke,,, sexy, witty interesting couple. Wonderful fast paced, didn't see the end coming at all!
Rating: Summary: Another Winner!! Review: Ceremony in Death is a wonderful addition to the "Death" series. It was an interesting concept to still have "Cults" in the 21st century. I have 2 more books to go in the series, I hope JD Robb will continue to write more. It would be nice to see Eve and Roarke with a child. They would give it all the love that they lacked in their childhood.
Rating: Summary: Acceptable suspense theme but a let down in romantic theme Review: Ceremony in Death was an eagerly awaited sequel in this on going series by JD Robb. Though the mystery/suspense theme was acceptable, I was disappointed in a lack of development in either the individual lives or combined life of the protagonists, Eve Dallas or Rourk. Given the significant development in each of the previous books(beginning relationships, courtship, marriage etc.) I had hoped for more
Rating: Summary: Witchcraft should be more entertaining than this... Review: Eve does not believe in magic, but it seems that everyone around her does. Unfortunately, many of those that believe are ending up dead. While investigating the death of a fellow officer and his grand-daughter, Eve meets a "white" witch (Wiccan) and "black" witch (Satanist). As the bodies begin to pile up, Eve and Peabody must delve into the world of witch craft to stop the killing and bring the murderer to justice. I gave this book three stars, because I just could not get into it. All the previous books I have read in a day or two, but it took me almost two weeks to finish this one. CEREMONY is much darker than the previous books. The suspense element is there, but it is not hard to figure out who the killer is. I like to be surprised by who the killer is, and I was not in this book. Another thing that is starting to bother me, are the common threads throughout this series. Eve is ALWAYS cranky and banging on things. Roarke is somehow always pulled into the investigation. Eve's car and computer are always acting up on her. Maybe this is picky, but it is getting very repetitive. I would recommend reading CEREMONY IN DEATH if you are a fan of the series, and plan to continue on with the next books. It is not as great as the rest, but all in all, not too bad. We get to learn alot more about Feeny (Eve's mentor and trainer that works as an e-detective). The relationship between Eve and Feeny is heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. CEREMONY is worth the read, just for that. Jenny Bogue ...
Rating: Summary: This was good, buy my least favorite of the series Review: Even though I did not like this as much as the other books, I still gave it a 5 because I felt it deserved it. I'm not into the cult and I guess that took something away for me. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it but not quite as much as I enjoyed the others.
Rating: Summary: excellent, exciting, surprizing Review: Have read all the J. D. Robb books. When I think I know the answer I have a good surprize ending. First was given by a friend and have followed as each was released.
Rating: Summary: Mystery and Romance par excellence Review: Having discovered the JDRobb series only recently, I am now devouring it all!! For anyone who enjoyed the Dorothy Sayres/Peter Wimsey/Harriet Vane stories, this is for YOU! This is a great mystery series with evolving characters based around a strong female protagonist struggling to cope with the inevitable conflicts and dependencies inherent in a strong relationship with a strong man - and all the while standing up for the (often horribly killed) dead and facing their (generally maniacal) killers! This series has everything!! Kudos to Nora Roberts who has created characters who actually evolve within a mystery series - so that each new installment isn't just a re-hash of the same people, same dialogue in a new murder scenario.
Rating: Summary: Cult type Book Review: I agree with previous reviews, this book was not up to JD Robbs normal standards. I have everyone of her books to date and thoroughly enjoy them. This one was filler and could be avoided.
