Summary: Worth the read
Review: Although a slow start, The Winner turns out to be a highly exciting adventure story as LuAnn and those close to her fight for their lives against the devilish Jackson. The excitement and suspense of the end of the novel really puts this book above other action stories. Not knowing what is going to happen to LuAnn keeps the reader on her toes. I especially like the character of LuAnn, a poverty stricken young woman who defies all odds through sheer will, determination and natural strenght to protect the life of her daughter and survive the mess she was forced into ten years ago. This novel lacks the dominance of Absolute Power, but a great read nonetheless.

Summary: Entertaining
Review: I found it a very good, entertaining thriller. You don't have to expect something particularly deep or moving or a very realistic plot, but...I enjoyed it very much. One thing I liked is the way the bad guy is not only bad, and the good guys have their sins, too.

Summary: Good Start, but poor finish
Review: Baldacci "grabs" you at the beginning, but I believe he "tires" toward the the story's end, and it drifts to a much-too-predictable conclusion. Maybe six hundred plus pages is just too much to fill....

Summary: Save your money - unless you need a laugh
Review: A good premise squandered by ineptitude. I would allow onecoincidence, but that's it. Check it out: On the day LuAnn has toaccept Jackson's offer, her stupid boyfriend is conveniently murdered, and it JUST SO HAPPENS that ANOTHER killer is waiting to snuff her if she refuses the offer. This killer JUST SO HAPPENS to click onto what is going on and decides follow her as runs from the police (why?). Jackson JUST SO HAPPENS to luck on to the killer's plan and is able to take care of things amid his busy schedule. It JUST SO HAPPENS that a woman who just won $160 million could disappear without causing a ripple. LuAnn's new boyfriend JUST SO HAPPENS to be an ex-FBI man. And don't forget the reporter working on the lottery story - seeking out Mr. Big (Jackson) who JUST SO HAPPENS to be the brother of his - the reporter's - girlfriend. Gimme a break! That's just a few of the lucky coincidences you'll find in Baldacci's "The Winner". The dialogue and writing is laughable and amateurish. The action and characterization is preposterous. One of the worst books I've ever actually finished reading - I like to laugh as much as the next guy. To give Baldacci the benefit of the doubt, I'll give "The Simple Truth" a shot, only because my sister recommended it and we usually see eye to eye on these things. If it's more of the same nonsense, I'm going to try to get my money back.

Review: it's not the ordinary plot, it has a lot of action and plenty of mouth dropping events. You just wanna shoot the bad guys and help out the good guys. It's a must read! The bad guy seems so unstoppable, it's crazy what he gets away with!

Summary: What a Winner!
Review: Baldacci does an excellent job presenting an exciting story with twists at every turn. The characters in this book are strong. They hold your interest from chapter to chapter which makes putting the book down before reaching the end an impossibility! If you want to read a winner...this is the book for you!

Summary: ...from rags to riches to comfort to luxury to danger...
Review: You are a young woman with a small daughter working in a dead end waitressing job and with an abusive husband to boot. One day a stranger approaches you offering a chance to win the national lottery and a way out of your dull dreary grinding existence, but with a catch. Many of us no doubt would take it up in a flash whatever the special conditions attached. A once in a lifetime opportunity to be "the winner". This is the scenario that is presented to LuAnn Tyler, the heroine in David Baldacci's latest thriller. Through circumstances beyond her control the inevitable happens, she is forced to flee with her daughter and thats just the beginning. Enough said.

Really enjoyed this story mainly because of its rags to riches scenario. But there was also LuAnn herself with her spunkiness and grit. We are all familiar with a solo mother out there just like her who has suffered and survived.Ready and willing to sacrifice all for their kids albeit without the aid of swiss bank accounts and gold amex cards. It is no surprise that LuAnn trusts very few people in her life and is wary of strangers. But to show she is not totally frigid the author manages to throw in a love interest with a just as mysterious past. But can he be trusted ?

David Baldacci writes an exciting thriller here and I recommend it to all his fans. His villains arn't just bad but goodlooking suave and affluent as well. Looking forward to his next offering.

Summary: A real winner
Review: Enjoyed every quick minute of it. Mr.Baldacci is up there with the Clancys,Diehls and the rest. In each book of fiction there is a lot of fact.. The lottery is spelled out properly in its true context, I hope some will read and find that entertaining such a fools game as the lottery only lines the pockets of the government, in large by the poor and ignorant. Invest your money, then you can buy more Baldacci books.

Summary: The Winner
Review: It is a toss-up as to what book he wrote is worse, The Winner or Saving Faith. Let's see some new authors. He had one winner with Absolute Power, but perhaps his creative talents are spent.
