Summary: His best rihgt after absolut power
Review: The Winner is a real page turner. His third novel cames back to the great idea of a novel. It is his best novel right after absolut power

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A real Page Turner
Review: David Baldacci's "The Winner" was a real page turner. The characters were true to life and the "bad guy" Jackson was great! This was an excellent story and can't wait to read more of Baldacci.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: IT'S FASTER THAN A SPEEDING BULLET!
Review: This was one of the best novels I've read in a long time. The villain was a masterful creation, and the main character, LuAnn, was one of a kind. David Baldacci is an author whom I'm definitely going to read much more of. His suspense in the book is astounding, and I love the car chase between Riggs and Donovan.

Jackson's personality is fabulous, and scary. You wonder about the lottery, too. And if that really goes on. But just to be safe, don't go to secret meetings with tall stocky men!

Great book. You must read it. Again, again, again, and AGAIN!

Summary: Definitely a Winner
Review: This is a great, must-read book. A little confusing at the beginning but it all comes together for many suprises. I could not put this book down! If you liked Baldacci's others, you'll love this one!

Summary: Nary a dull moment !!
Review: I rank this book 2nd behind Absolute Power. Did not like Total Control. Sure this book was a bit "overdone" but it was fun and entertaining. Action Jackson kept us guessing and the chase was suspenseful. A fun thriller. Take it to the beach.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Suspenseful but so inconsistent.
Review: Interesting plot (dirt-poor single mom wins fixed lottery), but poorly written. Inconsistencies abound. Why would a man who kills indiscriminately NOT kill the heroine when he has the chance (several times!)? We're told over and over again of Jackson's omnipotence. Maybe he's human after all... LuAnn's superwoman instincts happen to fail her at the most convenient times! I found some of the action scenes quite hilarious (not the original intention I'm sure.) That said, I still admit I read it quickly, and there are a few surprises.

Summary: Not quite a "Winner"
Review: Mr. Baldacci's first two books were terrific--suspenseful, imaginative and well-written. "The Winner" fails to reach the level of writing we have seen so far, but it is nonetheless, a great summer read. I found the character of LuAnn to be a bit unreal--drop dead gorgeous, a real hick, who manages to transform herself into a woman of the world after "winning" the lottery. Even more unreal is Jackson, a chameleon who manages to pull off the unthinkable without any hindrance whatsoever. The suspense is well-done but often predictable. The romance is better. There is some violence but it does not seem gratuitious. I liked the book overall, but found it disappointing after Absolute Power.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: A ridiculous collection of cliches.
Review: I read and enjoyed Absolute Power and Total Control and can't believe that this novel was by the same author. The premise was good and the character of Jackson was fascinating (though absurd), but the storyline became so hackneyed and cliched that I almost quit reading the book. The numerous "fight scenes" were so contrived as to be laughable. A high school English student could write a more believable and entertaining novel. What a joke!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not as good as his others!
Review: I enjoyed this book but did not feel that it lived up to the first two Baldacci books. It was almost totally unbelievable! The character of Jackson got by with too much, too easily -- for years! Why didn't someone catch on to him before all that! It was an easy and at some times an enjoyable read, but too far fetched!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: The worse of the Three!!!
Review: The Winner seems to be Baldacci's worse book yet. While it is seems to be intruiging as a mystery, it fairs poorly on other parts. He seems to combine action, mystery, and suspense into one book---it just doesn't work here.
