Rating: Summary: interesting, if not overly believable Review: heard the taped version and found it enjoyable . . . book certainly kept my attention, though i felt it "fell apart" a bit at the end.
Rating: Summary: Good reading. Review: The book is a real thriller! In every sense! It refers to a person who picked the lottery winners for twelve straight years. I wish I was he! Although it is over 500 pages, it is never boring or without suspense.
Rating: Summary: A good read Review: While it is true that the characters in this book were not developed as well as they could have been, The Winner was still an excellent read that kept me up late at night to see what would happen next. The action was thrilling and the plot fun to ponder. I would certainly recommend this book to a friend.
Rating: Summary: Both my wife and I were really entertained. Review: I read it first, then my wife. Had a hard time not telling her what was going to happen next. We both enjoyed it. Now we're wondering who will be cast for the movie. It'll be a hit on the big screen - plenty of great character roles, and action and suspense to the final scene. WHO WILL PLAY JACKSON !!!
Rating: Summary: Kind of a Grisham book ripoff Review: This book was pretty good in the beginning, but I thought the villian was a little over the top. I once was a scientist and thought the portrayal was pretty streotypical, to say the least. I must not have taken the Chem class on how to poison and kill people! The heroine character was fleshed out pretty well too, although I found her perfection kind of annoying. This is the first Baldacci book I have read - I suppose the others must be variations on this theme. This book could make a good cheesy movie, along the lines of "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle."
Rating: Summary: A books that keeps you guessing till the end Review: After having read absolute power and total control I was wondering wether DB could do it again. And with that I mean could the man devise a plot that would be new and give his interpretation to it - meaning that is wouldn't have to do anything with a corrupt government or the hunt for money in the IT - industry. And, well, he did.. The way Baldacci describes the plot en the technical issues makes you wonder if he will one day frame the national lottery himself - or maybe his book will give people ideas.. Anyway, one of his best works - rated second only to Total Control, but surely way ahead of Absolute Power!
Rating: Summary: Totally and unbelievably riveting.....A definite MUST read! Review: I bought this book just for something to read while working the 3rd shift. That was the best impromptu decision I've ever made. This was without a doubt one of the most intensely written novels I have read in a long time. If I was to rate this book from 1 to 10 , this book would definitely rate an 11. I recommend anyone who loves reading, definitely purchase this book.....I GUARANTEE they will not be disappointed
Rating: Summary: The Best Part Was The Critics Blurbs Inside The Cover Review: After that it was all downhill with a clumsily written story peopled with incomprehensibly motivated characters.C'mon..it couldn't have been written by the author of Absolute Power. A big disappointment.
Rating: Summary: A by-the-numbers thriller that didn't thrill. Review: I read Baldacci's "Absolute Power" and I enjoyed it a lot more than this trite, boring book. I found the story and the characters too implausible. I had no trouble putting the book down at night.
Rating: Summary: If I could, I would rate it at ZERO Review: The plot was so ridiculous that I was forcing myself to read it initially. There have been very few times when I actually had to put a book down. And it is usually due to one of two reasons. Either the plot is so thick/too many characters to keep straight or the plot is so weak that there is no point in going on. Luckily for me I borrowed it from the library and did not lay out any cash for it. If I had I would have tried to get my money back.
