Rating: Summary: A great "escape" novel, fast-paced and exciting. Review: If you are looking for a great beach book, click on the shopping cart now for this one. My husband and I found this novel suspenseful and exciting. Of course it's fantasy that's why we read NOVELS. Jump in and have fun, it's a definite ride.
Rating: Summary: Great Review: Well folks, he's done it again! Baldacci's written another super novel. It starts fast and ends even faster. I tried my best to put it down several times but, alas, there was always something to keep my curiosty peaked.... The characters were believeable and the plot was intense. I especially enjoyed the decriptive fashion in which he told the story. Little things that for sure would come back to be reckoned with again (the clock..). I want to thank Mr Baldacci for being such a wordsmith. I've read all of his work and rank him tops!
Rating: Summary: They publish this stuff? Review: An absurd plot and cartoon characters can still be fun, if done with style and panache. But this does neither. The writing is appalling. I kept reading to the end because I just could not believe that it had been published. Every sentence is so clunky that reading each one is like falling downstairs. The one sex scene was a scream. Apparently Warner publishing, being an entertainment co, does not bother with pesky editors. Here are just a few of the many, many examples:"Behind the stone mask Charlie fought the urge to abruptly give back his breakfast." (The stone mask is metaphorical. "Riggs felt himself drawing closer to her although he hadn't budged an inch. Her gaze seemed to be pasted onto his face, all the sunlight streaming through the window seemed to be blocked out as though an eclipse were occurring." "The entire crowd seemed to tense at once, like a biceps flexing and forming a ridge of muscle." "They both sat there on the phone, not saying anything, simply listening to each other's breathing, two trains careening out of control, about to slam into each other across a wireless void. Luann tried with all her might to hold back the thick gush of air that was ramming against her throat." I have not read Mr. Baldacci's other books, and I am not likely to do so now. Read it and weep. Or as Mr. Balducci would say, "paste you gaze on the raging river of type and let the tears erupt from your blazing orbs."
Rating: Summary: Great concept, Terrrible execution Review: I thought that this was a good concept, but the writing was sub-par, at best. The characters were one-dimensional and the dialogue was stilted. I wish this concept had been handled by a better writer.
Rating: Summary: No Winner Here Review: I just finished reading my first David Baldacci novel, and I wasn't very impressed. The plot was very contrived, and the whole time I was reading the book I felt like I was two steps ahead of what was going on. Although Baldacci set up the story pretty well, after page 50 I felt like he lost his inspiration and mailed in the rest of the novel. I hope that his reputation as an excellent writer of thrillers wasn't based on the garbage I just finished reading.
Rating: Summary: A real let-down compared to other Baldacci books Review: After reading his first two novels, I could not wait to tear into The Winner. What a disappointment. Where his others were fresh, invigorating, and intricately plotted, this one was trite, predictable and utterly absurd. The characters were so one-dimensional it was embarrassing, and the scenarios he had them in were typical cookie-cutter thriller plots. I have a hard time believing the same author wrote Absolute Power and Total Control, two books which I thought were brilliant.
Rating: Summary: Roller coaster ride from start to finish...LOVED IT!!! Review: This book has it all--Murder, drama, romance, action, mystery and FANTASY. Ms. Tyler was a strong lead character who understood her situation perfectly. Mr. Jackson was the perfect villian, you had to admire his talent. What a pychopath. With lots of twists and turns, this book will keep you on your toes and turning the page right to the FABULOUS ending! An excellent book club choice.
Rating: Summary: Riveting most of the way Review: Baldacci did a good job of keeping me interested with a twisting turning plot. Jackson (Peter Crane)indeed came off as a monster. You just never knew where he would show up and what he would look like. The ending was little predictable but nonetheless the book was entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Boring; Below expectations; Been there, done that. Review: This is my first Baldacci. Same old recycled cat chases mouse theme. Adds nothing to the old formula. The ending is obvious and predictable from page 100.
Rating: Summary: Great story Review: This is the first book by Baldacci that I've read. I thought it was great-I couldn't wait to get to the end. I would like to know if his other books are as good or better.
