Rating: Summary: An attention grabber that held on until the end! Review: I loved this book. The Winner was written in a sense that you could see yourself sitting there watching every step. I couldn't put it down! At the end I found my self wishing there was a sequal to see how LuAnn did and how she spent the rest of her life. It didn't leave you hanging like many other books. I couldn't wait to pick up The Simple Truth I was waiting to see if it was as good. I now compare every book to The Winner!
Rating: Summary: Surprized at the negativity Review: There is no greater joy than to positively review a book. Therefore I was shocked to see such harsh attacks on The Winner. Perhaps readers and users of this service have become too jaded.I thought the characters were intriging, human (in one case particularly inhuman in every sense of the word) and well developed. The only exception was the role of Charlie. Most readers, I suspect, would have liked to know more about him. Nevertheless, the plot deals with interesting questions - going from destitution to opulence, living with a lie and judging your own morality. Also it had enough twists and turns to keep suspence/thriller readers interested. Hats off to David Baldacci. You have not disappointed me yet and I look forward to your next (and the one after) book
Rating: Summary: Adrienne's Review Review: I wasn't thoroughly pleased with the audiobook, "The Winner". It didn't seem to grab my attention as much as David Baldacci's previous books. The main character, LuAnn Tyler, grabbed the reader's sympathy but the plot lacked suspenseful action and seemed at times, predictable. I gave it 2 stars because the story only faintly held my interest.
Rating: Summary: WAS DEFINITELY A WINNER!! Review: The Winner started off a bit slowly, but picked up after the first couple of chapters. After chapter 2 it started to get more interesting and I couldn't put it down after that. To read this book you must have a great imagination and a good sense of humor. It made for excellent company.
Rating: Summary: Hard to Put Down? Try "hard to pick up". Review: Boring! Boring! Boring! I wanted to give this zero stars, but the system wouldn't let me. David Baldacci's works since "Absolute Power" have followed the same pattern -- too much characterization thrown into the front half of the story, unbelievable characters who are too large for life, and a villian who is more silly than sinister. I kept envisioning LuAnn (the heroine) as a man high on steroids. I couldn't put down "Absolute Power"; I could only read two pages of this one at a time before I fell asleep. Big let down.
Rating: Summary: You've got to pick this one up! Review: D. Baldacci really impressed me with his writings. The storyline was absolutely fantastic. I felt he used an advanced diction though and the book was rather lengthy. The end was powerful and captivating. It is worth checking out.
Rating: Summary: "David Baldacci meets Stephen King" Review: "The Winner" could be described as "David Baldacci meets Stephen King". The premise of the novel is excellent, and the first half is terrific, but the last half is utterly predictable and strains credibility beyond the breaking point. "The Simple Truth" and especially, "Absolute Power" are far superior.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book! Really recommend it Review: This book is the best David Baldacci I know. The way the plot is constructed is really clever, and the story is well detailed. You sympathize with the main character and are really taken up in her situation and the developments around her. Excellent!!!!
Rating: Summary: A very powerful book, great, can't put it down. Review: This book was very good it was the first book I had read of David Baldacci, and it was soo good I will definitely read more of his books. I could not put it down, I finished it in 3 days it was so good. READ IT!!
Rating: Summary: The best companion I could have asked for a 13 hour flight. Review: His work just gets better and better. I hope he chooses to continue to entertain us with his exceptional work. If only it could be possible to manipulate the lottery as such. Maybe it is!!!!!
