Review: Without Remorse gave the backstory on one of the most secretive and coolest character in the Clancy series. Although this installment in the series started off kind off slow it soon became action packed and I think it contained some of the coolest fight scenes in the entire series. Learning about John Clark's past also made him a much deeper character andn explained much of the mystery in the earlier books

Summary: good, but not Clancy's best
Review: Without Remorse was a very good book, but Clancy has done better. One thing that really annoyed me about this book was that the vietnam mission was aborted. Clancy is a genius at depicting battle scenes, which is shown in most of his other books. I spent the whole book looking foward to the huge vietnam battle, and then it gets called off at the last minute. The information leak does add something to the book, but the lack of a battle really hurts it. And in response to the last review, where it is stated "Jack Ryan does not play a big part in this book..." That is not entirely accurate because Jack Ryan is not even in the book. His father, Emmet, plays a part as a police officer who investigates John Clark's murders, but Jack is not in the book at all. Overall, this is a very good book, but it is not one of Clancy's best. If you want something better, try Rainbow Six or Clear and Present Danger.

Summary: An Excellent Starter to the Series
Review: This is one of Tom Clancy's best novels yet- and surprisingly it doesn't way over a pound. It misses the mark by 1 ounce. This book was actually created after The Hunt for Red October and Patriot Games, but is the first in the series. It is- more or less- a prelude to the series. Amazingly enough, Jack Ryan does not play a particuly big role in this book. But none the less, Tom Clancy shows how one man can change from a normal citizen into a cold-blooded killer who will stop at nothing to reach his goal. I suggest this book to anyone who likes Tom Clancy and is willing to devote some time to a book. This is one of my favorite books in the series right next to The Hunt for Red October, which has to be the best. This is just the book to start off the series.

Summary: A Must Read!
Review: This book employes an interesting technique to ensure its difference from others in the same genre: the main character is not a pure good guy. He does a lot of "bad" things and explains them away to himself in ways to justify his murders. The whole story cruises along at a brisk pace, giving us views of well-developed characters, many of which show up older in other of Clancy's books. For a good look at the past of the best of Clancy's characters, this book is a must read!

Summary: Outstanding
Review: This more than any other Clancy novel highlights his sometimes overlooked talent as a storyteller. Oftentimes, in Clancy novels, the reader is caught up in technicalities and thus forced to read and re-read in order to make sense of the man's genius. Such is not the case here. By setting the stage of the novel with simple, pure human emotion, Clancy immediately gains an intense empathy for his characters. The protagonists are powerful, compassionate, and easy to identify with while the antagonists are evil in almost every aspect of the word. Clancy's characterization also adds to the believablility of the plot, which is spun at break-neck speed. Easily one of Clancy's best!

Summary: The plot's good, but spare me the meathead stuff.
Review: I like Tom Clancy overall and I did indeed like this book. It contains the best and the worst elements of his writing. The plot, as always, was intriguing and interesting. I'm usually able to remember the details of Clancy novels years after I've read them, and 'Without Remorse' will be no exception. At the same time though, enough of the conservative ranting and raving! Drugs in the inner city and how they corrupt our innocent youth. A girl victimized into becoming a prostitute, but saved (for a while) by the main character's love. The typical goody-goody theme that people of different backgrounds CAN get along (like Clark and the doctor who runs aground on his island). Maybe it's just me, but I get enough of this 'big-hearted' stuff on TV. So yet again, another good book, but not a great one.

Summary: Possibly Clancy's Best!
Review: In this story about an Ex-SEAL, Clancy keeps the reader on the edge of his seat. The plot takes several interesting turns that are unpredictable and action packed. The story takes hold of the reader "[w]ithout [r]emorse" and dosen't let go until the explosive conclusion. Although the size of the book is intimidating, I finished this book in a week. (A book this large usually requires 2-3 weeks for me) I was debating whether I should read this book since it had nothing to do with Clancy's usual hero, Jack Ryan. I was rewarded for my choice to do so, with a story that is both a must read for any Clancy/Coonts/Cussler fan, but also an unforgettable one. Pick it up! You won't regret it.

Summary: Remember it's fiction, some call it storytelling.
Review: First I want to comment on the book. I am somewhat of a military/history buff myself. While I am 10 years younger than Tom Clancy, after reading some of the biographical info, there are some similarities in our interests as children. When I was younger I read everthing I could get my hands on pertaining to World War II, fiction and non-fiction. Over the years I've probably seen 85% of all the war movies ever made. The one thing about Tom Clancy's novels that I always find so entertaining is the attention to detail. I too wonder if he doesn't have some inside sources, just as the CIA has wondered (and I'm sure investigated). In my opinion, this man is a first class storyteller who consistently keeps me glued to every one of his books from cover to cover. Witout Remorse is no exception. In fact I'd say it is exceptional. After reading Clancy's first six books, this one made me feel like I knew the character he was writing about intimately. Which leads me to the next point, anyone who can take reading a work of fiction by a popular author who unabashedly loves his country and turn it into a judgement call aimed at everyone living on this side of the pond ought to stick to reading romance novels. I've never gotten the impression from any of Clancy's works that he was trying to ram any kind of holier than thou attitude down anyone's throat. As far as being involved with unspeakable atrocities, the gentleman from Liverpool need look no further than the few centuries preceding the American Revolution or perhaps right in his own backyard in present-day Northern Ireland. The British Empire has done it's fair share of imposing it's will on an unwilling world for quite a long time. And of course there was that nasty little uprising in the Faulkland Islands. Do us all a favor and read the book for what it is ..................storytelling.

Summary: first clancy book for me, and definatly not my last!
Review: i just read the last page about 10 min. ago, and belive me, after 2 months of reading this 750 page paperback (2x bigger than any book i have ever read in the past) i am now sold that clancy is one of the best authors of our time. this was the second book i have read in about 4 years, and now i will ddefinatly never go that long again. no remorse reminded me how much fun it is to read!
