Rating: Summary: GOOD ENTERTAINMENT Review: I just finished this book and I certainly enjoyed it. James Patterson writing style with short chapters makes this book move. There is almost a cliff hanger at every turn. Cat and Mouse is a pulsating game. At one time about 2/3 way through the book I thought I had the answer to the puzzle, but J.P. proved me wrong. I suggest you go out and buy the book before his new Alex Cross book comes out, Roses Are Red. James Patterson so far has referred to the other Alex Cross books in each new story, so beware. The character Alex Cross is one of the best african-american protagonist of the modern thriller genre, and of the most likable.Tripp
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down Review: I finally dropped everything for a few hours so I could finish the book and get on with my life. The ending was somewhat of a let down but the rest of the book was one of the most suspenseful books I've ever read. I figured out who Mr. Smith was but only because I was paying close attention to a few things that were said. It was a little to brutal for me which is why I only gave it 4 stars but I would definitely recommend it. I would advise, however that you read it during the day.
Rating: Summary: One of the worst books I've ever read Review: Seriously, I could not believe how bad it was. Really no redeeming values at all. The author uses exclamation points contstantly! Instead of writing to create drama, he uses punctuation! And italics! You learn nothing. It's a waste of time, unless you just want to shake your head and wonder that the book was ever published, or be motivated to write yourself, because if he's a bestselling author, surely you can be as well. Please stick to Elmore Leonard, Thomas Harris, Walter Mosley, etc., for your mystery thrillers. This one is just plain bad.
Rating: Summary: My favorite audio tape Review: The two readers were beyond magnificent. While listening to this tape, it was more like watching a Steven Stielberg performance at the movies, they were that good. The story line was easy to follow and compelling. I use audio tapes when I workout. I enjoyed this tape so much that I wanted to go to the gym every day. I could use a dozen more Patterson audios, with these same readers.
Rating: Summary: Nothing special Review: There's nothing original in this book, it's all old stuff. Yes, it's fast, maybe too fast, but in the end boring. I was waiting for, at least, some brilliant idea from a serial killer or from a detective, some really smart clue: there is none. This is a mass-product, and this is proved by the fact that it contains a lot of advertisement (they do it in the books, too!)
Rating: Summary: Great Great Story! Review: I had never read a James Patterson novel, and only read this one because I found the Hardcover version on sale, but now I'm hooked on James Patterson. This novel was very intense and has twists around every corner. It is written on the first person perspective, detail that I have always considered a minus rather than a plus. But in this case it actually adds to the story and makes it even more enjoyable. The story deals with Gary Soneji (character which I've found out appears in Along came a Spider novel that I will begin reading today) who has decided he wants to go out with a bang by committing one of the so called crimes of the century and in so doing threatens Dr. Cross that even if he dies he will still come back from the grave to kill him. Meanwhile, in Europe a serial killer known simply as Mr. Smith and whom the public actually believes to be an alien is performing autopsies on his victims while they are still alive. Alex Cross and FBI agent Thomas Pierce, whose girlfriend was the first victim of Mr. Smith, must put the pieces together before Mr. Smith attacks again. One additional detail that I really enjoyed is the fact that chapters are just two or three pages long which allows you to really turn pages in a hurry and allows you not to get lost in a twenty page chapter. In conclusion, I really enjoyed this novel. I rank it right up there with the only two other novels which I have given five stars to, so far, The Coffin Dancer by Jeffery Deaver and A time to Kill by John Grisham.
Rating: Summary: My first novel and it is great. Review: After waching the movie "Kiss the Girls" I came acroos this book and I finish it in two days. The plot of two killers and the personal life of Alex Croos makes it a briliant book to read. Because this book I would like to study forencis psychology in the future. Is a fast pase none stop action. Don't miss it if you like suspense.
Rating: Summary: Fun To Read! Review: After reading some of Patterson's non-Alex Cross books vs. "Along Came A Spider", "Kiss The Girls" and now, "Cat & Mouse", I've definitely come to the conclusion that I need to stick to the Alex Cross books. They're much more exciting and much more fun to read than his other books without that character in it. With that said, "Cat & Mouse" was exciting to read and the pages just turned at an incredibly fast pace for me. I'm still wondering, though, how exactly did Gary Soneji get out of jail! At the end of "Along Came A Spider", Soneji left a message at Alex Cross' car. Was that my "hint" that he was already out of jail? If not, I'm TOTALLY confused as to how he got out of jail and there was NO MENTION of an escape/release from jail throughout the book! But, after I accepted that I wasn't going to get an answer to my question, I still found the story engaging and I still enjoyed the book.
Rating: Summary: If scary is good, then this book was very good! Review: I borrowed this book from my sister, and I'm glad I did! I've read 'When the Wind Blows', by Patterson, but this is the first Alex Cross novel I've read, and it won't be my last. Alex Cross is an African-American doctor/detective who uses his knowledge in psychology to get into the minds of serial killers, and track them down before their next kill. In this novel, the odds are stacked against him when he has to deal with two serial killers, one being Gary Soneji, who readers have met before in 'Along Came a Spider', and a second serial killer whom the press call Mr. Smith. However, the novel does a good balance between Cross's work and family life, especially when things get interesting with his children's school principal Christine Johnson. I liked the book for many reasons. I liked the short chapters, that helped propel the book along very quickly. I liked how the author lets the readers get inside the heads of the serial killers, and find out how they tick. I liked the balance between work and family life because it gave the reader a reprieve from the gruesome aspects of Cross's work. Most of all, I liked the book because it had a complete package, including a great story, and a wonderful cast of characters that kept this book moving very fast.
Rating: Summary: Good follow up - but I have a question ... Review: I found Cat and Mouse to be almost as good as Along Came a Spider - and that's saying a lot! Here's my question for those of you who have read this... I must have been falling asleep when it explained how Gary Soneji got out of prison, can anyone tell me where to find it in Cat and Mouse? After finishing the book, I scanned the first few chapters but couldn't find it. If you know, please email me at unman@home.com Thanks! This was a very fine book.
