Rating: Summary: A weaker addition to the execellent Alex Cross series Review: I felt a little letdown by the eventual confrontation with Cross's nemisis - Soneji. The build up was superb however the actual final meeting was not on the scale I had imagined. Mr Smith was uninteresting. His identity obvious from the start. The chase to catch him was uneventful, and the other characters such as Sampson and Kyle Craig were greatly under used. However as always the narrarative flows at a superb pace, and although not as good as the previous novels , roll on the next case.
Rating: Summary: Explosive in first half, mediocre in the second Review: James Patterson, the masterful author of such great titles as Along Came a Spider and Jack & Jill has returned with a lukewarm title that I enjoyed in the first 200 pages but was not too impressed by the second 200 pages. I loved the fast paced short chapters of Soneji's violent rampage, but got bored by Mr. Smith. Soneji kills quickly in this novel, but Mr. Smith slowly kills in ver violent scenes. I also think that Soneji is not dead, and if he is, I will be disappointed evenen more. I would give the first half a 10, but the second half a 5. I would recommend people interested in reading Patterson to read either Along Came a Spider or Jack & Jill first, which in my opinion, are the best (Kiss the Girls ain't to shabby either) better luck next time, James.
Rating: Summary: CAT AND MOUSE....I GOT TRAPPED IN THIS READ! Review: PATTERSON JUST SEEMS TO DO IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN. IT'S TIME FOR STEPHEN KING TO RETIRE AS HE IS BEING OUTDONE BY A NEW #1. I AM THRILLED THAT PATTERSON WRITES SUCH FICTION AS THRILLERS ARE MY GAME. I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK, CAT AND MOUSE, DOWN ALL NIGHT LONG. I JUST HAD TO SEE WHO FINALLY GOT CAUGHT IN THAT MOUSETRAP. OF COURSE, I WASN'T DISAPPOINTED ONE SECOND THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE BOOK. IT KEPT ME RIGHT THERE ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT. PLEASE HURRY AND WRITE SOMETHING ELSE. WE FANS CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF THIS TYPE OF STORY. PATTI JONES MELBOURNE, FL
Rating: Summary: brilliant read! Review: Unputdownable, I really enjoyed this one, interesting plot/ strong characters/ well written/ what more can one ask for?
Rating: Summary: Huge disappointment!!!! Review: Plot weak, doesn't compare to Patterson's previous books. Written in first person, from more than one source, is a bit confusing. Twisitng two plots didn't pan out very well. Patterson's previous books are much better and left this reader wondering why one awaits the new arrival only for a big disappointment. Perhaps if Morgan Freeman can play Cross, the author feels anything is possible. Patterson needs to regroup and write novels like his previous books. Read his others or wait for the paperback. Sorry James! Realistic criticisim is not what most people want to hear. Perhaps your passionate readers were the most disappointed.
Rating: Summary: This one's not the big cheese! Review: Patterson has a contrived story at best and this is certainly not one of his best. Alex Cross is our all-time hero and he's fleshed-out in this thriller becoming the warm, human person to which he has evolved. And we want to see him healing and on the road to happiness. What we don't want to see is a psychotic killer battering Nana Mama and the kids! This book could have ended with the end of Soneji very nicely. The addition of Mr. Smith was a contrived fiction that didn't add true value to the book and he certainly wasn't worthy of repeat performances as was Gary Soneji. Mr. Patterson should read his former Alex Cross books and go back to that winning formula.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT!!! Review: This book was excellent! I loved it. From the first page, I was on the edge of my seat. I kept wondering what was going to happen next. I am a definite fan of James Patterson. I can't wait to see what he comes out with next. If you are looking for a book that will capture your attention and hold it, read this book!!!
Rating: Summary: thrilling yet disapointing Review: The novel C&M I found to be exciting. The rage that Soneji expresses on society is all to realistic. While infected with AIDS makes him that much more vengeful as his distruction advances. I found that Soneji's brillance was eclipsed only by his hatred for Alex Cross. This proved to be his undoing. Alex Cross is as convincing as he is in the other novels his love for his family combined with the obsession with catching the bad guy makes him excellent as what he does. The novel as a whole I felt was very good. The constant turns and manuvers made it that much more thrilling. By the end of the novel I was saying to myself "get the S.O.B!!!" (Mr. Smith). The change in narrators I felt was a good idea but could be a little confusing at first, took a little getting used to. But afterwards it was a original success. What I found disturbing is the way Soneji is killed. Going out in a dark train tunnel seemed unworthy and juvenile of this vicious killer. I expected a grand showdown between G.S. and A.C. After I read that part I also said to myself, "Was that it? Is it really G.S. or someone else?" The whole novel was a insightful view on what a killer might be thinking and the man who will stop at nothing to extinquish this murderer's flame. I have recommended this books to friends they to have enjoyed the Alex Cross roller coaster ride. It truly is a outstanding piece of literature, its equal cannot be found.
Rating: Summary: Another page turner by James Patterson Review: "Cat & Mouse" is another page turner from James Patterson. Read it in two sittings. Have loved all of his books. I agree with some of the other reviews that "Cat & Mouse" isn't quite as good as "Kiss the Girls". His plot and happenings are starting to get to the edge of believability. He is a master at developing his characters - Alex Cross & family and bringing out their feelings.
Rating: Summary: Exciting read yet somewhat anti-climactic Review: Alex Cross is one of my favorite characters when it comes to series books like Patterson's "Along Came a Spider","Kiss the Girls", and "Cat & Mouse." It's rare that a reader finds a heroic, intellectual African-American protagonist in these types of best selling thrillers. However as much depth and rewarding character development he's given Cross, he spoils his latest installment "Cat & Mouse" with a somewhat anti-climactic resolve. Don't get me wrong, the story is riddled with clever plot twists and unstoppable pacing. Perhaps ironically, these Patterson trademarks are what left me hoping for more.
