Rating: Summary: This book is a real page-turner! Review: This was the first Patterson book I have read, but it will not be the last! I saw the movie Kiss The Girls and that was why I picked up Cat & Mouse. I read the book in 2 evenings....hated to put it down. Especially liked the shorter chapters. Patterson goes in my "must read" list along with Koontz, King and Cussler! A great read......I have to go back to Amazon.com now and order several of the ones I missed!
Rating: Summary: Eh I've read better Review: Okay, I really liked his other three Cross books. I also REALLY looked foward to this one. I pick it up and am intrigued by Soneji. I liked that part. I also liked the injury--new detective part. But then I got to the motive of the second serial killer and I felt like I was watching something with the plot value of the 60s Batman series. Read everything excpet the final part and the book is great.
Rating: Summary: Good Book - Not as Surprising as the others Review: I really liked this book a lot and I think it was very suspensful. I didn't like the fact that the identity of Mr. Smith was so obvious. The thing I enjoy most about Patterson's work is that you never know until the end of the book who is actually behind it, he is very good at leading you off the path.
Rating: Summary: Good...but also dissapointing Review: After reading the first three books, I was looking forward to reading Cat and Mouse for over a month. However, the book wasn't what I had hoped. To me, the first two hundred pages are James Patterson in top form...I read the first half in one night. But the second half, with Mr. Smith, was boring. The killer was droll and very underdeveloped, and the climax isn't hardly as good as the one in Kiss the Girls. Soneji should have been the only villian in this book, as he is without a doubt one of the most interesting bad guys in fiction. Let's hope that Patterson can get his act together in his next book.
Rating: Summary: Cat & Mouse - Good Chase/Weak Ending Review: James Patterson combines tension and gore for Alex Cross's fourth chase of a serial killer(s). The hunt was exciting with plenty of twists and turns. I especially like the way Patterson effectively changes point of view in the narrative. It is done with great effect. The villains, Gary Soneji and Mr. Smith, are too over-the-top. Soneji was chilling in "Along Came A Spider." He became a shrill in "Cat" Mr. Smith's identity is revealed too early, leading to a dragged out, disappointing ending. Despite the short comings, the novel gets into your head. It is a good read.
Rating: Summary: Predictably violent, predictable ending Review: Having read others of Patterson's books, I'm not exactly sure why I picked this one up. I find way, way too much gratuitous violence, weak characterization, little if any motivation for crimes, a flirt with psychology, and basically a lot of bad Nero Stout look-alike vocabulary. It is not a BAD book. I particularly like Patterson's habit of writing VERY short chapters. I can put it down anytime and not miss a thing!!
Rating: Summary: Help me find me a reason to finish the book Review: Having read some of Mr. Patterson's novels in the past (I especially liked "Kiss the Girls"), I expected more of the same - light reading with characters you can't help but like and a good amount of suspense. However, after Gary Soneji is (well) done, it is almost immediately obvious who "Mr. Smith", the murderer of Cat & Mouse part 2, really is. Gee, what a strange coincidence that one of the chief investigator's girlfriends was murdered by someone who knows how to carve people up like the doctor that the investigator had studied to be. I felt as if the real "great one" is supposed to be the author and we're supposed to be too stupid to figure out Mr. Smith's identity. The only real suspense in the second half of the book was exactly when Alex would recover from his grave wounds. The faking of his real situation is about on par with the "Dallas" television series which wiped out dozens of episodes by deciding that they were all a dream of one of the characrters. When you can't write your way out of a tough situation - just pretend it never happened. Very poor imagination. It would have been for more suspensful had a severely injured Alex Cross pursued his enemy and triumphed.
Rating: Summary: Skip It! Review: The only reason I finished this book is that it read so quickly, much like finishing a really bad movie on the USA network. There were just too many holes in the storyline. Too many instances where the serial killer could have been caught (maybe Patterson should have studied up on the FBI's techniques and the technology they currently have). First Patterson I read...and the last.
Rating: Summary: The master of the nonstop nightmare has done it again Review: Patterson has done it again. He brings back his brilliant detective hero, Alex Cross. Cross must once again match wits with his nemesis, diabolical madman, Gary Sonjei. Sonjei has vowed to kill Cross and his entire family. Cross battles his enemy from Washington to New York. This novel also has a great subplot about a equal brutal serial killer named Mr. Smith who is terrorizing Europe and the F.B.I. agent named Thomas Pierce who is obessed in catching him. This novel like the others boast suspense, great plot twists, and chilling villians. No one creates twisted minds better than Patterson. How both stories comes together is a testament of the storytelling power of Mr. Patterson. Another shocker worthy of Hitchcock!
Rating: Summary: Solid book, weak ending Review: Patterson brings back Alex Cross and gives him a social life. Finally. Good book but less than stellar ending. It reads like he just wants to get the book over with.
