Summary: Excrutiating
Review: I was grateful to see other one-star reviews. After seeing all the raves on the book itself, I thought I might be the only one who found this book truly awful. I finished it only out of curiosity (kind of like watching a roadside accident.)

I honestly think it may be one of the worst written books of any kind (not just thrillers) I have ever read. There must be some unwritten rule with Mr. Patterson that chapters end after 250 words, whether something meaningful has happened or not. Sometimes a chapter would end with Cross sitting down to think and the next chapter would begin with him standing up. (This is only a slight exaggeration.)

The 2 killers move from crime to crime without any explanation of their invulnerability. They escape, assume new disguises, change venues in the blink of an eye. Real police work is nonexistent.

Every now and then, Mr. Patterson uses exclamation points and a word like "hell" or "crazy" to show how breathtaking the story is: "We were in hell!" "Things were crazy!" Occasionally, words were put in italics, just to show that other print fonts were available.

Sometimes words were put in quotation marks without rhyme or reason. Example: Cross goes home and it felt like "being home." Of course it felt like being home! You are home, you moron!

The actual story had all the excitement of reading stereo instructions. There is no buildup to the final confrontation with Mr. Smith - and the revealed message that leads to that confrontation is ludicrous.

I must admit that I actually cried briefly at the end of the book, at the sheer relief of being finished with it.

Summary: One of the best James Patterson novels around.
Review: Cat & Mouse was the story of Alex Cross, an African-American police officer who was working on a case of two serial killers. One was Gary Soneji--the antagonist from Patterson's previous thriller Along Came a Spider--who was hellbent on taking revenge on Cross, family included. The other was Mr. Smith, a serial killer with split personalities who performed "autopsies" on his victims while they were still alive.

This book has a good balance of scenes between Cross' personal life (his loving grandmother, his huge best friend Samson, his two beautiful children, and their teacher whom he is falling in love with) and business life.

The book is very easy to follow and goes by at a very quick pace. The characters were realistic along with the plot.

The thing that I liked most about the book was the way Patterson told the story. I actually found myself feeling sorry for the bad guys as well as the good, which usually never happens.

I would recommend this book to anyone but be sure not to make the same mistake I made. I started the book late at night before I went to bed at about 11 o'clock. It was so good that I continued to read until three in the morning, which left me sleepy and irritable the next day at work. If you are going to read this book, be sure to start it when you have at least two hours of spare time.

P.S. Please read my other reviews.

Summary: Good Book
Review: I enjoyed this book, it was a real page turner. Having more than one criminal added fuel to the fire. Characters were very interesting. I am going to read another mystery by James Patterson, he has my attention.

Summary: Well Put Together Thriller
Review: I enjoyed this story. It is well put together with many interesting twists and turns. Between his work and home life, Alex Cross seemed more balanced in this one. Pierce was an interesting new character and Gary Soneji was, as ever, delightfully horrid. A fast read, it held my interest throughout.

Summary: I Loved CAT & MOUSE
Review: I sometimes read books that my parents already have read. So when I read this book, I started to love a new author. My favorite kind of books is suspence, so this was a good book to read. So I would recommend this book to any one who likes suspence and likes James Patterson novels.

Summary: Just another Alex Cross book
Review: This is just another Alex Cross book, except this time it's not as good. The book went really slow and had a poor plot which was confusing and quite predictable as the book winds on. It's one of those books which you can't put down but which never ended.

Summary: Patterson tells a hell of a story
Review: Great suspense. Great build up and the twists are believable and great. I would recommend this book and the rest of Patterson's series to anyone. Alex Cross is a great character.

Summary: This my first James Patterson book, and it is awesome!
Review: This is the first James Patterson book that I've read I think it was fantastic. I'm not into thriller, but it kept me on my seat. I have to find "Along Came A Spider". Because I was definitely into this book. I think James Patterson writes very descriptive characters with twist to keep you hanging in your seat. I like that the characters of color are hard-working individuals and not the typical thugs hanging on the street corner looking for a hand out, which most of America is willing to believe. I say bravo to James Patterson whose obviously a man of color who wants America to see and know that it not always the people of COLOR, who commit crimes but the crazies next-door who look like the average JOE who are truly serial killers. This story came alive for me, because I know that the serial killers are typical average looking white males. James Patterson keep up the good work, the book is too real for some who don't like the light of the truth shining in their faces. I take my hat off to you and say keep em coming baby.

Summary: Had to force myself to finish it
Review: It took me three months to read this book. No, I'm not illiterate, I just let it collect dust on my bedside table while I started and finished other books. Alex Cross had no flaws, the villians had no redeeming qualities. There was no twist, no suspense--it's not that I guessed who the killer was in the beginning, I just didn't care. Maybe I'll try another Patterson book in the future, but not until the boredom Cat & Mouse produced fades from my memory.

Summary: James Patterson has turned my loathing for reading into love
Review: The only reason I read this book was because I had to read a Best Seller over the summer for an English class that I signed up for. I was in the library looking at books, when I saw "Cat and Mouse" by James Patterson. When I got home I sat on the living room couch, and to my surprise, couldn't put the book down! I'd never read a book before that I enjoyed so much! I finished the book in a matter of days and ran out to the library to get another one! Thank you James!
