Summary: Toothless Tiger
Review: I've read all of Clancy's books and this is by far the worst - pure garbage and a waste of time to read. The characters are unbelievable, the plot is unimaginative and easy to anticipate, and the open-ended finish is lame.... I mean come on - two untrained twins let loose by a "private" vigilante group to hunt down and kill suspected terrorists - all the while flying 1st class, driving the finest cars, staying in five-star hotels and planning / discussing their "hits" at sidewalk cafes. It's James Bond meets Maxwell Smart. I'm sure the real Jack Ryan is turning over in his literary grave. Don't waste your time or money on this one.....

Summary: Really... can I have my money back?
Review: Before your read this, consider that "zero-stars" was not an option.

The review is something like this "1.- islamic terrorists kill innocent civilians. 2.- A private organization hires the son of former president Ryan, and his cousins, to avenge those civilians. 3.- The 3 cousins kill 4 or 5 arabs. That is ALL" ... wow, and now, can I have my money back.

The book has no plot att all, and no end. Isn't a Thriller suposed to be Thrilled?

Is now the USA hiring assassins to retailiate?

By the way, Is Clancy promoting fascism as the ideal for the USA? The book could've been writen in nazi Germany... only that "Mein Kampff" was, at least, realistic.

Summary: Mixed Bag at Best
Review: Rough. Real rough. In a literary nutshell, that's how I would describe Tom Clancy's latest offering. No, it's nowhere near the dreary nightmare that was last summer's Red Rabbit. However, on its own, Teeth of the Tiger has some very serious flaws. Still, Clancy does pull off a bit of a comeback, as the story also sports some redeeming values, something that was criminally lacking in some of Clancy's latest works. To those who have followed Clancy's writings and his characters for the last two decades however, Teeth of the Tigers is more indicative of how fall Clancy has fallen than anything else.

With Teeth of the Tiger, Clancy seeks to reinvent his classic Jack Ryan storyline and reset it in our present time line. That's a tough task for Clancy, as his works have always been dependent on a fairly independent pseudo present day, a time when terrorists have used nuclear weapons and the Chinese were recently humiliated by the United States on the battlefield. To a lot of people, including myself, the first thought after watching the Twin Towers get hit with passenger airliners was the climatic scene of Debt of Honor. This time around, Clancy's new breed of characters are forced into the real world headlines, as a mysterious new Islamic terrorist group plans operations against the United States. The forces of villainy are appropriately devilish and intelligent in this book, and Clancy always writes the handler/coordinator bad guy very well (see Miller in Patriot Games and Popov in Rainbow Six). There is also an air of mystery to their organization, obviously hinting at future books. Their first operation is a very real possibility, and points at the inherent lack of safety found in our democratic system.

The bad part comes with the good guys. Clancy cuts his ties with the "stale" CIA and NSA for this book, instead relying on a band of super secret unofficial spies, who are authorized by the President himself and suffer from very little oversight. In response to the rising tempo of the war on terror, the group decided to go operational, carrying out covert operations in friendly countries. They train a young Marine special forces officer and his FBI agent of a brother to carry out these killings. This was the worst part of the book for me. The two brothers are written so painfully silly it's just mind boggling. Are we expected to believe that, while operating in Great Britain, a big no-no, and planning an assassination, our new characters will still be throwing around wisecracks, and comments on local beers? It's a painful joke, and their dialouge, which there is tons of, resembles TV programs like The Real World than anything else. One wonders if Clancy's only exposure to 20 somethings is through MTV.

To continue the Ryan line, Jack Jr. manages to finaggle a job out of the new ultra secret group. Junior is somewhat interesting, as he has some insights to the world of his father that we never really got to see. Still, his inner monologue soon becomes monotonous to the extreme. This was a problem I did not expect to see, considering Clancy managed to radically shorten this latest work (say goodbue to the 1000 pagers of the past). The moralizing, the rationale goes wild in this latest story, and it just becomes annoying drudgery. The biggest shock for me concerning this book was the technical or strategic mistakes I think Clancy made with this story. Not to give away part of the story, but are we to believe that this new top secret spy agency would consider using Jack Jr., an obviously recognizable figure, as an overseas operative? That's just stupid. Also, I kept thinking throughout the assassination rampage that takes place later in the book that it would be much better if these people were actually being interrogated and captured, as the advantages of their assassination is never really made clear. As a result, the mysterious emir who controls the terrorist operation remains mysterious to the end. The most cringe worthy part of the book comes when the terrorists pull off their operation, an operation which is somewhat blunted by the ridiculously convenient presence of the twin assassins. Please, that's just lazy writing.

I have to give this book 3 stars however, as it was better than Red Rabbit. One skill that still shines through the muck is the excitement and amazing detail Clancy can still exhibit concerning intelligence technology and the American national security apparatus. It's just that Clancy's cast of characters are nowhere near as interesting as the toys they play with, or the heros of the old books. And, personally, any Clancy book that leaves out Mr. Clark (2 books absent now) has something wrong with it. Better luck next time.

Summary: Clancy Has Either Gotten Lazy or Bored
Review: Like most "clancyites" I was anxiously awaiting the new arrival of his latest book. This by far is the worst book Clancy has written. All of this special black ops team are related. There is absolutely no character development. The plot is so shallow that it is like reading the screenplay for a "made-for-TV-movie". Jack Ryan Sr. has now become a covert black ops facist who seems to have no regard for the constitution, nor the executive orders of other former presidents.

Tom has just gotten sloppy. Maybe he needs more time off, because he is capable of much more than this. For his next book I will read the reviews first and then decide if I will buy it.

Summary: Herbert Jacobs
Review: What a bloated, boring, silly novel, I have been a Clancy fan from "The Hunt for Red October" to the present. In this, he seems
to be out of touch with the times. His diolouge ie "Bet your bibby.bro" and "Hang a roger on that." If Clancy likes a word or phase, he does not hesitate to use it twice-or 20 times or 200.
For a novel about virile young men, it is oddly lacking in sex.
All three heroes are reputed to have girlfriends, but none are glimpsed.
He also contrives to send Jack Jr. to Europe to assist the Caruso brothers despite the fact that 1) they don't need him.2)
he lacks training, and 3) as the son of an ex-president he has no
business in assassination plots.

It will take additional volumes for Ryan the Younger and the Caruso boys to rid the world of terrorism. Be warned!!!!!

Summary: Teeth of the Tiger
Review: I've loved all of Tom Clancy's books up to this point. But this book was a complete disappointment. It ended so abruptly, I couldn't believe it. I just feel it was definitely not up to his usual standards.

Summary: Much better Mr. Clancy
Review: This is SO much better than that horrible 'Red Rabbit'.
Ok the book is not Clancy's best, but I hate to say as a Clancy fan, Clancy is losing it. I mean his earlier books WERE the best he has ever written, the LAST good novel he wrote was the excellent 'Rainbow Six'. Since then he has lost it BIG TIME!
'The Teeth of The Tiger' is about two brothers, one being in the Marines, and the other in the FBI. Now they are joined into a secret organization which was created by President Jack Ryan.
At first the Marine didnt want to join because it involved 'murdering' as the Marine puts it, people.
That all changes when they encounter terrorist in a shopping mall while looking for shoes. Also Jack Ryan Jr. is now the front man, he was trained by black op's best John Clark and Domingo Chavez, but the thing is that Jack Ryan Jr. does not fit the black op theme.
If John Clark and Domingo Chavez were in this novel, it would of been much better than it already is.
With the terrorist dead at the shopping mall, Jack Jr. discovers who was behind the terrorist hit in the shopping malls across America.
So the two brothers head to Europe and with Jack Jr. to stop the ringleader behind the attack Mohammed.
Another thing about this novel was that it was short from the other novels he has written in the past. The last time he wrote a short novel like this was his first and best novel 'The Hunt For Red October'.
If you are a deep Clancy fan, you will be sastified, but it could of been better but again it was better than the horrible 'The Bear And The Dragon' and 'Red Rabbit'

Summary: Clancy is definitely long in the tooth.
Review: The last few novels have gone from bad to worse. The latest contrived garbage has no character development, totally unbelievable heros, and a storyline which just ends. My guess is another book is quickly coming off the press with the same heros. I do not know what Clancy was thinking of when he made this new "elite" group all related.

Clancy makes Jack Ryan Sr. appear to circomvent the entire US Constituion. This is totally out of character. Developing an asassination squad and making hits to stir things up is an extreme departure from previous books in this long running series.

One other key which does not work is the constant referral to blank Presidental pardons. Those pardons would only work if the President was still in office.

This novel is definitely not worth spending any time on.

Summary: needs a sequel
Review: I'm a long time Clancy fan and liked the book but the ending was too abrupt. 3 maybe 4 stars out of 5. Teeth of the tiger needs a sequel to be a 5!

Summary: Worst Clancy Novel Ever
Review: I read in bed before I turn in. I couldn't get through two pages of this book without falling asleep. It took me three weeks to finish this book, when it should have taken me three days. An unbelievable and totally STUPID plot line, totally implausible characters, horrible dialogue and tired cliches all add up to the worst Clancy novel I have read and possibly the worst "suspense" novel of any author I have read. Shame on you Tom Clancy (and your publisher too)!
