Summary: Myron is the MAN
Review: After reading this I hoped that Coben will continue to churn out Myron novels for a long time! As a sports fanatic and a Mystery lover this was a great combo of both worlds. I want to read all the books in the series! I really loved Win what a nutcase! I compare him to Joe Pike in the Elvis Cole series by Robert Crais! Keep it up Coben!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Fantastic
Review: Anything that Harlan Coben writes, goes superb. Try any book from him. you'll be delighted

Summary: The Launch of a Spectacular Series
Review: As a mystery writer with my first novel in initial release, I have noticed Harlan Coben's high profile at every recent mystery convention I have attended as an author. Coben has been guest of honor, toastmaster, charity auctioneer, and particpant on the most popular author panels. Coben's rise to the top of the mystery world began with this book--DEAL BREAKER. It introduces Myron Bolitar, his sports agent protagonist. DEAL BREAKER also sets the tone for the most successful new series in mystery fiction to commence in recent years. If you like your mysteries fast-paced and witty, DEAL BREAKER will be for you. It is a terrific book, and it launched a spectacular series.

Summary: The Whole Series is Great...
Review: As the beginning to an excellent series of mystery/suspense novels, Coben does an excellent job in book 1 setting the stage for the future. The characters are rich and well developed. The storyline is difficult to predict. Compared to the other wise-guy private eye novels, Coben's first, Deal Breaker, should be considered par none (read and compare to Robert B. Parker's Godwulf Manuscript, this is a level above). For fans of sports, as well as mystery novels, would highly recommend the Coben novels. As the first book, Deal Breaker is a great place to start.

Summary: Time To Romp With Myron And Gang!
Review: Deal Breaker is the mystery that introduces us to the down-to-earth sports agent Myron Bolitar. This thirtysomething New Jersey born former college basketball star is about to establish his rank as an athletic agent when he lands a contract managing Christian Steele, the most sought-after up-and-coming quarterback in the NFL.

But not everything is rosy. Christian's squeaky clean life is thrown into the spotlight when his fiancee, Kathy, mysteriously disappears and the evidence points to murder. Soon Christian starts coming across clues that Kathy may still be alive and wherever she is, she may carry with her secrets with devastating implications. Subsequently, Christian decides to call his agent and friend, Myron Bolitar for help. A former FBI man, Myron still wears his sleuthing hat and so he puts his skills to work as he tries to uncover the truth. The alleged killer, however, is not finished with his spree. Other people acquainted with Kathy turn up dead and soon Myron realizes he is wrapped up in a dangerous case that is no random act.

I wasn't sure if I'd like a book with sports as its sub-theme. Sports movies, for instance, have never done anything to wet my whistle. I'm glad, however, that I didn't let my prejudice side pass this book over. Why? Plain and simple the book was a blast! Besides having a cleverly written plot that has you guessing who did it and why, the humor never ceases. Yes, murder may be grim but Harlan Coben keeps the air light with witty and absurd characters that entertain and amuse. You'll be flipping the pages at a breakneck speed to reach the unpredictable conclusion. And when it's all done I'll bet, like me, you'll be heading to the library or book store to pick up your next Myron Bolitar mystery.

Summary: Great Beginning
Review: DEAL BREAKER, Coben's first Myron Bolitar novel is a fabulous must-read mystery. I did not read this Boliter novel first. I have read several and found each to be impressive but reading DEAL BREAKER gave me insight into Bolitar's character. If you like fast-paced action-packed thrillers add Harlan Coben to your list of authors. He will not disappoint.

Summary: Come again?
Review: Did I miss something, or what? I purchased this book from Amazon based on its 5-star rating, but I beg to differ. A couple of laughs, a half-decent story-line, but that's it.

His books are often mentioned in Forbes magazine, so he must have a great press agent. I'll try one more of his books before writing him off....

Summary: harlan coben is a real FIND
Review: Don't miss this book or any of the following 5. Myron Bolitar is the BEST character since Robert Parker's Spenser. And Win is better than Hawk! This first thriller is fantastic and I literally did not guess the identity of the killer til Myron revealed him/her. Sorry folks - no clues from me. Myron is a decent, sensitive sports agent - one would think such a person didn't exist! Myron is also tough and very funny. Win is scary, but has his own code of honor. Harlan paints their characters well, but doesn't stop there. Wait til you meet Myron's parents, Esperanza, and the fantastic Jessica. And don't try to put down this book and do something else (like work) - it can't be done.

Summary: Keeps your interest; a page turner
Review: Harlan Coben introduces sports agent, lawyer, sleuth, and thirty-something, ex-jock Myron Bolitar in this fast-moving mystery. His supporting cast primarily consists of his office manager, a Latino female ex-pro wrestler, and Win, an upper-crust blue-blood whose blond, wholesome looks hides a lethal mean streak.

The book starts simply enough: Myron is negotiating a first contract with a pro football team for a prized college quarterback. But a call to the quarterback supposedly from an old girlfriend who disappeared under mysterious circumstances a couple of years earlier starts a rapid-fire series of events that leads into the crime world, pornography, and academia.

The book's strength is the rapid pace of events that keeps the reader just enough off balance to maintain interest. One could not say that the book is from the school of realism. The characters are quickly drawn with exaggerated features, be they beauty, acumen, meanness, etc. Broader culture insights are minimally drawn. But that is not what this book is about.

The book is a good start in a series of Myron Bolitar mysteries. For entertaining, quick reads I will look to the next books in the series.

Summary: Edgar Winner Lives Up to its Promise
Review: I bought this book after seeing it had won the Edgar award for best paperback, and am I glad I did. The suspense was incredible-I couldn't put it down, and stayed up almost all night to finish it. The main character Myron, is both a clever detective and hysterically funny, while his two sidekicks, a rich waspy psychotic killer and a former women's professional wrestler, are out of this world. A must read. Incidentally, I bought all the other Harlan Coben books as a result of reading this one-each is fantastic.
