Rating: Summary: A lot of action and suspense Review: The suspense and excitement was maintained throughout. It was an extremely fast read, especially since the chapters were only 4-5 pages each (which was a little different than I'm used to). I finished it in about 2 days. The storyline was interesting with a strange twist at the end. Overall, a fun book to read.
Rating: Summary: subtle at first, but ends with a shocking twist Review: What i like the most about the jack and jill was the amazing collection of killers and the way they compliment one another.
Rating: Summary: hated it! Review: Not to demean anybody else's opinion but ..aarrgh! Trite, choppy dialogue. Chapters are two and a half pages long throughout. The main character, Alex Cross, his internal dilogue was laughably contrived. His relationship with the school principal: ludricous. The plot twists seemed to exist only because they are what is expected these days. Sometimes point "A" to point "B" is interesting enough. Stop hiding every character in suberfuge. What a waste.
Rating: Summary: Intriguing plot; Lacking elements found in his other books Review: I thought that the story was very interesting and Patterson obviously put some thought and work into to making the plot seem plausible (considering it is a work of fiction). However, I think he did not develop the main antagonist characters as much as in "Along Came a Spider" and "Kiss the Girls". Alex Cross and Sampson were as likeable as ever but---Gary Soneji where are you. The Jack & Jill characters were not as believably sinister as Soneji and/or Cassanova, but the plot twists were acceptably decent and not completely predictable. However, my biggest bone to pick with this book is the fact that several references were made to the BRANDS of clothing, jewerly, etc. that the characters used. I could care less if Sampson was telling time with his new BULOVA watch wearing a KANGOL hat. He could just as effectively checked the time with an old raggedy swatch duct taped to his wrist wearing a sweat stained dust cover. I don't need such descriptions of a character's possessions to tell me they're a badass---their actions should dictate what persona they emulate. The ending was enjoyable because EVERYTHING in Washington can be covered up or filed away "somewhere" without a nice trite ending (as seen from recent experiences). However, Alex Cross NEEDS to get himself a lady friend sometime soon because the man desparately could use a stress release. I can't wait to read Cat & Mouse because Soneji (why such a weird name anyway) is back for some more. At least, Patterson realizes when he does have a strong character even if he has problems sifting through the weak ones. Buy this book because it is a quick read, keeps you interested, and does perform it main purpose---it entertains.
Rating: Summary: Great story, confusing ending. Review: I've read all four of these books now, and I definitely found this one to be the most interesting read. It definitely gets impossible to put down as you try to figure out who is Jack, who is Jill, who else is involved, and who is the school killer (although I thought that could have dragged out longer). But after reading the very ending (not counting the Gary Soneji intro for the next book), I found myself saying "Huh?????"
Rating: Summary: "EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!" Review: "This book just mad my stomache have butterflies!" I was constantly on the edge of my chair. I found it very hard to put down. The book "Along Came A Spider" was lent to me by a friend and I raved about that so much that he lent me this one. Now, I have to have your whole collection...I just order 9 of his books through Amazon.com at below book value! I loved the move "Kiss the Girls" and plan on reading that book very shortly. James Patterson is an exceptional writter, I love how he keeps Dr. Cross alive in the continuing books! I'd like to give Mr. Patterson * * * * * * * * * * stars, He deserves them all!!!!! Keep all the mystery, thrills and all the unexpected coming!
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down for the last 100 pages! Review: The book is a little slow at points, but Dr. Cross is such a good character that that doesn't seem to take away from the book. Lots of killers in this one. I really like how the ending was a big surprise. I couldn't believe some of the things that happened! It is another good quick read.
Rating: Summary: Excellent...full of suspense! Review: James Patterson has done it again!!! One of his best yet!
Rating: Summary: Disappointing, repetitive - and boring Review: Having heard so much about Mr Patterson's big reputation, I bought a copy of 'Jack and Jill'. Wish I hadn't bothered. As far as narrative structure is concerned, a high school teacher would be entitled to expect better from a class of 14-year olds (and would!). Monotonously short sentences, basic punctuation, little or no subtlety or sophistication in the way of grammar or syntax... you get the idea. Maybe Mr Patterson thought he was writing a fast-paced pulp thriller, but the masters of that particular art knew how to turn a sentence, how to make their work challenging. As far as 'Jack and Jill' is concerned, I've encountered more demanding stuff in a tabloid newspaper. At least I now know one author to avoid in future.
Rating: Summary: Not Patterson's best page turner. Review: Jack and Jill was my third Patterson novel following "Along Came a Spider" and "Kiss the Girls". Patterson kept me up nights reading "Spider" and "Kiss the Girls". However, it took me weeks to finally finish Jack and Jill. Maybe the timing was wrong. I am so tired and frustrated with all of the "real" happenings in Washington, D.C. these days, that it was difficult to entice my interest in these fictional D.C. characters. However, once I got into this read, I did enjoy it and couldn't wait to read the ending. Patterson's continual past referencing of Gary Soneji in this novel has definitely wetted my appetitie for "Cat and Mouse". I look forward to reading more from James Patterson and more about Alex Cross.
