Rating: Summary: An engaging, intense novel full of white knuckle suspense Review: I'm reading the Alex Cross series in order, and I must say that I think Patterson gets better with every story. In this story, Alex Cross is confronted with two separate killers, one murdering children near his school and another committing political assassinations aiming ultimately at the President. Both of these investigations are handled deftly, with good police work, solid relationships, and very evil villains. As the story unfolds, we meet Christine Johnson who will later become the love interest of Alex (in future books). Their interplay is dynamic and interesting, and the dialog and descriptions and crisp and keep you racing along to a shattering conclusion. This is my 3rd James Patterson novel, and I must say that he's now one of my favorite authors. You get a real sense of getting to know Alex Cross, who is a very likeable, if driven, character. You get to see him as both the brilliant detective and as the loving father and family man. This book introduces some very smart, very evil criminals and the crimes that they perpetrate keep you guessing up to the very end of this book. Read this book, but do yourself a favor and read the entire Alex Cross series in order (starting with 'Along Came a Spider' and continuing with 'Kiss the Girls'). You'll be glad you did. I can't wait for 'Cat and Mouse'...
Rating: Summary: This book is killer! Review: This was my second James Patterson book (1st was "Kiss the Girls") and I am hooked. It took me only 1 and 1/2 days to read the 466 page book. I couldn't put it down! Detective Alex Cross is back and he is stuck between two investigations: someone is killng high profile celebrities in Washington DC and someone is killing young children in the streets of Cross' neighborhood. Are these crimes connected somehow? How does Cross choose between the loyalty to his community and his civic duty to the President of the United States? With two different plots and many twists and turns and suspects to choose from, "Jack and Jill" is sure to please anyone who loves to dive into psychological thrillers. I also recommend Thomas Harris' Hannibal Lector series: Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal (to be read in that order!)
Rating: Summary: Predictable and Anti-climatic Review: I agree full-heartedly with teekay62 and Sam C. Ogden. This novel lacks imagination in the fact that J. Patterson constantly describes characters by likening them to other characters (i.e. Kevin Costner in The Bodyguard if I remember correctly). I've read several of his other books and have seen "Along Came a Spider" and "Kiss the Girls". No comparison with this one. He builds up the plot and you expect large surprises, but none come.
Rating: Summary: Another great Cross book Review: James Patterson has done it again...another great addition to the Alex Cross series. JP does a great job of writing about two seemingly unrelated serial murderers - like a tennis game the stories volley back and forth. A little about the child murders, a little about the Jack and Jill murders. Alex Cross is stuck trying to solve both of these at the same time. Alex is torn between the child murders that are happening in his neighborhood and the Jack and Jill murders that are gaining national attention. Alex is asked to join the task force at the White House to solve the Jack and Jill murders because the murderers have made threats against the president. These stories are exciting and have twists that keep you on the edge of your seat! Not until the end of the book do you begin to see it all come together and understand the real motivation of the murderers. If you want a great thriller...read this book!
Rating: Summary: Riveting! Review: Jack and Jill by James Patterson will have the reader on the edge of their seats! I found this "thriller" to be one of his best yet! I was hanging onto every page and actually read this book in one day - I just could not put it down. Dr. Alex Cross is confronted by solving two different murders - committed by two different murderers, yet both are baffling and both are "perfect". The first killer is killing children in the neighborhood of his son's school and the second killer, known as Jack and Jill, are killing celebrities in the Washington, DC area. Cross is then engaged by the White House to protect the President of the United States and his wife from the notorious Jack and Jill. Cross has his hands full and his loyalties divided. Can he do it? What is so compelling about this story is that Patterson gets you into the mind of Jack and Jill and well as the child killer. You feel all of their intense emotions and motivations for killing. So, as the reader, you know the killer's next victim as well as knowing what Alex Cross is doing to get the killer. Patterson has you in the mind of the cat as well as the mouse! I love it! I really love the character of Alex Cross and with each and every "Cross" book I read, I find Cross' character utterly fascinating. Once again, Patterson has you guessing the "real" identity of all the killers and the end comes as a shocker!! If you love shockers - this book will have you floored, but then again, also read Roses Are Red by Patterson - that's a shocker as well!
Rating: Summary: Another winner... Review: Jack & Jill proves that James Patterson's previous success with the Alex Cross books are not flukes. Patterson is a great writer and Cross is a fun character. Trying to solve two crimes at once and see if they are in any way related- is no sweat for Alex Cross! With two story lines going on at once, you won't be able to put this book down. There's no shortage of suspense or excitement. And the ending is always the best part. If you have never read James Patterson and you enjoy crime thrillers, you need to give him a try!
Rating: Summary: WOW Review: I couldn't put this book down. James Patterson had me wondering who the killer could be until the very end. I had seen the movies for Kiss the Girls & Along Came a Spider, but after reading Jack & Jill, I had to buy the books to read before I can read anything else in the Alex Cross series. I'm currently reading Along Came a Spider and am LOVING it!! I would (and have) reccommended this book to others!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: This was an excellent book by Patterson. If you've read the other Alex Cross books, you will love this one.
Rating: Summary: Patterson is a master of suspense Review: Patterson is a very good--and prolific--writer. he creates complicated situations and characters and leads us through the story to the other side without losing us. This has a great plot, interesting twists, good characters. Nice if you're into this genre
Rating: Summary: Another win for Alex Cross Review: This book was very exciting and hard to put down. Since I have been reading the Alex Cross series out of sequence, this book gave me another piece to the puzzle. The two plots in this book are well thought-out. Patterson does a great job in character development. This book presents Alex Cross in a much higher professional level compared to the other novels. He appears very focused on performing his job.
