Review: "Hello, darkness" is Sandra Brown at her best and she is truely one of the premier writers of romantic suspense. This is a story of past mistakes, unintentional betrayal, haunting suspense and heated romance that leaves the reader breathless and eager for more. Unable to get past her contribution to the lingering death of her ex fiance, Paris Gibson escapes to the darkness of the night. She is the enigmatic host of a popular late night radio program featuring soft talk and love songs. This is both her sanctuary and her only link to the world she has avoided for the past seven years. Then she receives a phone call from a deranged fan warning Paris that he has kidnapped a young woman who after Paris' on air advice has betrayed his love and trust. He offers Paris and the authorities seventy two hours to rescue the girl before he kills her and then comes for Paris. Paris is joined by the Austin police and their newly hired psychologist Dean Malloy in a frantic search for the psychopath and his young victim. Malloy and Paris share a history rife with attraction and distrust. They must try to put their attraction and their differences aside while they investigate the many suspects in the race to save a life. Brown weaves various strands of suspense within a sordid tale of confused youngsters from dysfunctional families who risk their lives to seek quick highs from drugs and sex with strangers they've met on unregulated websites. It is a frightening subject that is deftly and realistically handled. The characters are so capably sculpted that you hate to leave them when the story ends. I am never disappointed by Sandra Brown's books, but this one really is a stand out!

Summary: A great "who done it".
Review: Sandra Brown has written yet another "I can't put it down" thriller. Right up to the very last chapter, the listener is kept in suspense about who Valentino really is. In fact, this listener vacillated between two characters. I was just sure who it was through most of the book but in the last chapters, I knew that character hadn't "done it". Then I couldn't make up my mind between two other characters. But I won't say more and spoil the suspense! Paris Gibson has a late night radio show full of love songs in Austin, Texas. She keeps to herself and does not allow her public to know more about her than what her voice sounds like. One night, she receives a call from Valentino telling Paris she is the cause of his being jilted. He also tells her he plans on revenge by killing the girl within 72 hours. Paris immediately goes to the Austin PD where Dean Mallory is called in to consult with Sergeant Curtis. Dean is a psychologist and has a past with Paris. Between the three of them, they must work fast to find the girl and prevent her death. All suspicion is directed at a dentist who has a prior record for sexual misconduct. Yet, as time goes on, they all begin to wonder if this dentist really is Valentino. Dean's son, Gavin becomes involved in the investigation and at one point, is even a suspect. But in the end, Gavin is the one who holds the final clue leading to the identity and capture of Valentino. Victor Slezak reads "Hello Darkness" and has the voice to add the inflections and tones that give this audio book the suspense it deserves. Grab a copy and you won't want to put it down until you also know "who done it".

Summary: A Good Mystery
Review: HELLO, DARKNESS is typical Sandra Brown romance formula with a mysterious backdrop. Readers are warned of the usual sexual undertones and overtones, explicit detail thereto, and general adult content and language. Paris Gibson is a radio DJ and she attracks a madman after her. It was quite interesting trying to figure out who the culprit was. At times I was finding myself questiong if it was the male lead! Paris had lived with the guilt of loving her fiance's bestfriend years before. When the events unfolded and her fiance wound up helpless and in need of around the clock care, Paris offered herself up out of guilt and cared for him until his eventual demise. Somehow, this didn't quite impress upon me any empathy for Paris. Perhaps she was too much of a martyr? Years later, the bestfriend reappears in her life and is a part of the team tasked with tracking her stalker. Sparks fly from every page as usual, but it is intersting just the same if not educational. Unfortunately, this formula has been done a hundered times in romance novels. Overall, this was a pretty good mystery that I can recommend for a good guessing game. Reviewed by: P. Brook

Review: After a tragic accident, Paris Gibson left her career as a Houston TV reporter, moved to Austin and became the areas most popular radio talk show host. One night a frequent caller, named Valentino, vented his anger at Paris because she persuaded his girlfriend to leave him. Incensed, he threatened to murder the girl within 72 hours. Her gut instinct tells her this call is no hoax and Paris contacts the Austin Police Department. It is at this time that she is reunited with former lover, Dean Malloy, the Department's crime phychologist. Along with the APD, Paris and Dean begin a race against time to save the young woman's life. I have been a Sandra Brown fan for many years. She rarely disappoints me. This latest effort, Hello Darkness, is headed for the best-seller list. The story is awesome and I never use that word lightly. Brown weaves a story of teenagers involved with a Sex Club website. These kids communicate with members by posting messages on the website and meeting with anyone who stirs their interest. Mostly strangers. The founder of the site, a judge's daughter, is kidnapped when she tried to break up with a member who became obsessed with her. The subject matter may offend some readers but the story is too good to pass on. It is a well-plotted thriller, with a dash of romance, that kept me on the edge of my seat. Unlike some of her recent books, Brown does not reveal who the kidnapper is until the very end. There are several suspects and she keeps you guessing. I have to rate Hello Darkness as one of the best stories I've read this year.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: This is one of the best thrillers I've read. Paris Gibson is witty, charming, and has the exact amount of neediness to come across as a very interesting woman, without being your typical damsel in distress. Once you start to follow the plot of the murders, you can not put the book down, and eagerly expect what comes next. The book shows in-depth research, well-planned plot and characters that have a life of their own. This one is a keeper.

Review: Heard the taped version of Sandra Brown's latest thriller, HELLO,
DARKNESS . . . this one is about the host of a late night radio show
who has a listener who may or may not kill her next. I'm a big fan of Brown's other works, but that said, found this to
be disappointing . . . it was as if I've read this book before (or
at least seen movies with a similar theme), and so the plot had
very little suspense. There were also too many secondary characters to my liking. Lastly, Brown attempted a twist ending, but that too did little
for me.

Review: This book is fantastic. I am writing a review before finishing it beacuse I'm too excited about how it captured my attention. It is the first of Sandra's that I read and find really interesting how simple and well described is this book. All the characters are completely different and connect in a very peculiar way. If looking for a good read; Grab it!

Review: Paris Gibson, a popular late-night radio personality, moved to Austin, Texas to escape her tragic past. Her listeners trust her, phoning in nightly seeking advice along with their requests for songs. Right before her two A.M. sign-off, a man who identifies himself as "Valentino" calls. He tells Paris that since she gave his girlfriend advice to break up with him, he has kidnapped his girlfriend and will kill her in seventy-two hours.
Paris takes the threat seriously and notifies the police. One of the men assigned to the case is police psychologist Dean Malloy. When Paris and Dean see each other, it's instant recognition. Dean brings back memories of everything she is attempting to run from and to forget. Along with the fact that they know each other, their long-suppressed feelings of attraction resurface as well.
It's a race against time as Paris and the police follow clues that might lead them to the kidnapped girl. They discover her identity quickly, yet run into a great deal of resistance from her parents and other involved parties. The more they discover about the girl's sordid dealings, the more possible suspects surface. Will they find her before it's too late? Will Paris become Valentino's next victim?
HELLO, DARKNESS is an exciting ride from start to finish. There are many suspects identified, and each is a viable option for Valentino. The reader is kept in the dark as to his identity until the exciting climax. Many unexpected twists kept me intrigued and on the edge of my seat waiting for the next surprise. I enjoy a mystery that can provide suspense as well as tie things up in the end, providing both the motivations of the killer and a satisfying conclusion.
Ms. Brown's characterizations are wonderful. Paris is mysterious and has a lot to hide, but the reader sympathizes with her and doesn't feel too distant from her pain. Dean is a rugged hero, giving strength and a strong male presence, yet his vulnerability with his son makes him a real person. The sensuous romance between Paris and Dean heats up the pages, and the two personalities compliment each other so that they seem made for each other.
I was less than impressed with Ms. Brown's last book, THE CRUSH, but HELLO, DARKNESS is an excellent novel, not to be missed. She deftly combines the elements of romantic suspense to draw you in, and won't let you go until the heart-stopping finish.
