Summary: Excellent!!
Review: Could not put the tapes down once I started. Even my 18 year old son, who has no interests beyond AeroSpace Engineering, sat and listened intently until it ended. His comment was, "Wow! Pimp!" (which means "outstanding" is adolescent-eze). Can hardly wait for his next one to come off the press. A "grabber" that never lets go!

Summary: Patterson again scores with the first in a new series
Review: Heard the taped version of James Patterson's 1ST TO DIE, the first in a new series of crime thrillers about four women friends (a homicide inspector, a medical examiner, an assistant D.A., and a newspaper reporter) who form a Women's Murder Club to stop a serial killer in San Francisco . . . the premise might sound unbelievable, but Patterson carries it off exceedingly well . . . the dialogue was very believable . . . I was kept guessing throughout . . . the ending was great--unexpected, as well as ouching . . . I look forward to the next book about these interesting women . . . Suzanne Toren's narration was excellent.

Summary: Thats entertainment
Review: This book did what I expected it to do. It entertained me. I liked the characters and the story and hope he writes another with this group in it

Summary: Hysterical and Hackneyed
Review: The book opens with the heroine kissing her service revolver - contemplating a lead dinner. The melodrama of this opening scene sets the tone for the hysterical drama of this book.

It looked to me as if the author wanted to steal the theme from every successful novel and weave them into one densely dramatic novel. He has the "bravely facing a terminal illness" story line combined with the "female bonding/solidarity" theme the "multiple twist" plot, and the current "forensic science" craze. And to Mr. Patterson's credit, the reviews of this book seem to label his conglomeration a commercial success. However, I remain unimpressed.

I think my disenfranchisement was enhanced by Mr. Patterson's descriptions of the murder scenes. His images were starkly and vividly black. I found them gruesome and disturbing. I am not a fragile or a squeamish person, but I also don't intend to fill my brain with scenes of spectacular evil.

This book was filled with sharp implausible plot twists and hackneyed female bonding scenes making it entirely forgettable. I hope that I soon will.

Summary: 1st to die
Review: This book held me spellbound for an entire night. I stayed up all night until I finished it and felt as if the characters in the book were now friends of mine. The locale was perfect and the twist of the ending was superb. More please!!!

Summary: A die-hard Alex Cross fan expands her scope
Review: I have long been a fan of James Patterson's Alex Cross Mysteries. I like Mr. Patterson's style of writing, as well as the depth to which he explores his characters. I was not disappointed with this foray into a female lead in San Francisco.

I was up late at night to read this, early in the morning to find out what was going to happen next... it was great. Only a few disappointments, but overall a good read.

Summary: DAMN GOOD!
Review: I've been a fan of James Patterson's for a long time, but never have I been taken for a thrill ride such as this. 1st To Die, starts with a crescendo, and ends with a curtain call so stunning and real, that it's hard for the reader to believe its fiction. This novel is not for the weak at heart or stomach, but it is for those of us who like thrills, and characters who you can believe in. Characters like Lindsey, Claire, Cindy, and Jill, form a friendship with not only themselves, but when the last page is turned, you'll find yourself feeling that you too were seated at the same table with the four of them. With those four characters, James Patterson, wrote a story that spans at least four lifetimes, never mind the fact that the four of them were thrown together by Patterson, in order to catch a brutal and methodical serial killer. 1st To Die, is highly recommended by me, it is an absolute thriller, mixed with loads of compassion.

Summary: You won't believe your brain!
Review: James is a master of the "Crime-of-the-Decade" thriller. I read this entire novel in less than a week because is was really gripping and there were so many twists I wanted to know the results of. The short chapters helped as well. I see that the next one in this series is coming in the spring of 2002. I should surely be there for it!
