Summary: SOPHOMORIC WRITING - MICHAEL CONNELLY TEMPLATE
Review: KUDOS TO JAMES PATTERSON AND HIS PROMOTERS.

TO ADVANCE THE SALE OF SUCH A POORLY WRITTEN BOOK TO THE STATUS OF #1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER MUST HAVE REQUIRED GREAT MARKETING SKILL.

EITHER THE TIMES HAS A VESTED INTEREST, OR PATTERSON HAS MASTERED THE ART OF WRITING FOR LOWEST OF THE MASSES.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Disappointing
Review: 3 stars is kind, 2 might be too cynical. This is a quick, semi-interesting read - a little too simplistic and implausible. Some twists and turns don't make much sense, and the ending was definitely disappointing(too quick and again didn't make much sense). This book is definitely not up some of his previous books, nor does it stand with any of the other great mystery writers.

Summary: Don't expect too much...
Review: Nothing exciting...but it's a good book to kill some time...
You won't get urge to finish this book at once...it took me about a week to finish this book...while reading something else...it's a book that you read in a bathroom or waiting for something.

Summary: Weak, Weak, Weak!
Review: I've read a couple of Patterson's books (Kiss The Girls), and I thought they were OK. So, I wasn't expecting much when I started this, but I was hoping to be entertained. As I kept reading, I was hoping it would get better, but it only got worse. From the hackneyed plot twists, to the excruciating dialog, to the affectated pop culture references, Patterson obviously was fulfilling his contract obligations. His narrative from the female perspective is a cheap device, and it strikes me somewhat as pandering - as if he truly can get into the head of a female detective. And what was with that ending? I just let out one big groan after finishing it. Makes me wonder if I was reading a different book than everyone else!

Summary: Excellent
Review: This a definite must read for James Patterson fans. At first I thought, but there's no Alex Cross, not sure how I'll feel, etc. Boy was I ever wrong. Kept me going - had no desire to stop reading. The Women's Murder Club rocks!

Summary: Excellent
Review: Patterson is very good at twisting his plots. This one is no exception. It is a fast moving, very entertaining book. The plot does slow down a few times when Patterson goes into character development mode. But, not to worry, these periods are brief, and the action starts back up suddenly.

He has created a good group of characters. At first the concept of the Women's Murder Club seemed silly to me, but it does seem to work for his plots.

I enjoyed this book, and it made a great addition to the Jeffery Deaver books I've been reading.

Also recommended:

Jeffery Deaver: The Blue Nowhere, The Bone Collector, and The Devil's Teardrop
Nelson DeMille: Plum Island and The Lions Game
Greg Iles: 24 Hours and Mortal Fear

Summary: Somewhat disappointing but promising
Review: A huge fan of Patterson's Alex Cross books, I was eager to see what he would do with a new series and a female protagonist. Lindsay Boxer is a likable, promising character (I keep seeing Laura Linney) but we know so little of her before she's thrust into a mortal illness, a love affair with Mr. Right, and the case of her career - simultaneously! She also starts a "women's murder club" with a close friend and two acquaintances. It's a nifty premise but in a weeks time she's calling them all "the people she trusts more than anyone in the world." I just don't see a tough cop abandoning herself to two relative strangers like that.

All in all, though, I'm ready to jump into 2nd Chance and see what else is in store for these ladies.

Summary: 1st To Die is 1st Class!
Review: Lindsay Boxer and her group of girlfriends form the Womens Murder Club. The woman are all professionals. There is Claire the coroner, Jill the DA, and Cindy the reporter. They get together over beer or margarita's to try and determine who a serial killer is. From the moment the book begins, you are sucked in and unable to stop reading. The terrible deaths of the bride and groom, just hours after the wedding and still in their wedding attire, are just the beginning. I highly recommend 1st To Die, a new series featuring Lindsay Boxer and friends.

Summary: This is an EXTREMELY good book
Review: [I] don't get a chance to read very often. When I do, I enjoy reading adult books, especially murder mysteries. I found several of James Patterson's thrilling books at my local library and was blown away by how exciting and interesting they all sounded. This book, 1st To Die, seemed the most interesting to me, although i plan to go back and read as many of his other books as I can. As I read it, I found myself taking it to school and reading it during classes! From the opening, terrifying scene, to the last shocking one, it is an incredible thriller, with an unimaginable ending to it. I can guarantee you, you have NO idea.... So get it, and read it. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!! its excellent and i cannot wait to read the rest of his books! James Patterson is wonderful, my type of author.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good Read
Review: Tight plot and fast moving makes this book enjoyable. No character development to speak of, which is fine, because we're not reading for character--we're reading for thrilling enjoyment, which this book definitely delivers.
