Rating: Summary: Outstanding! Can't get enough! Review: The first book was kind of slow, but I pressed on and read the second and boy am I glad I did. This series is WONDERFUL! Excitement, romance, mystery, everthing! This book, as well as any of the other book after it in this series, leaves you wanting more. As you read through the series you get close to the characters, watch them grow and you want to know what will happen to them next. Janet Evanovich is a fantastic writer who really knows how to get you involved in the story. She is discript enough when creating images for you to think about, but still allows you to use your imagination. As you read through the series you may notice how the characters evolve, there is always something new to learn about them. I laughed out loud, I became tearful, I got mad, I got scared while reading these books. Truly a treasure. I cant wait for Hard Eight to come out so I can see what Stephanie will do next!
Rating: Summary: About 100 pages too long but its still an okay read Review: "TWO FOR THE DOUGH" falls victim to the '2nd book blues'. After a wonderful debut, one would expect something better or at least on par in the follow up but I did not find it here.It is still a good read though. This time Stephanie Plum is hunting Kenny Mancuso who jumped bail for shooting his friend in the knee. Soon after, his friend is found dead and the trail leads back to Kenny. In the meantime, our heroine is hired by a mortician to find 24 coffins that has gone missing. Who would want to steal a coffin, never mind 24? Stephanie doesnt want to know but the with the rent due and money being a problem....well, beggars cant be choosers. There's less of Ranger in this book but more of Grandma Mazur. In fact, the old woman takes an active part in this book. She is even more hilarious here and even has the chance to give the Dirty Harry speech. Other amusing vignettes include Stephanie finding a parking space big enough for a Buick, Grandma's visits to the funeral parlour and the Plum family staring at a penis just before having dinner (well, I thought it was funny). But what about the story itself? It felt stretched out, truth be told. Could've ended 100 pages sooner. The funny parts were indeed funny but the tense parts weren't. Stephanie's ineptness at apprehending her man makes it frustrating to read sometimes but it has to be remembered that Steph is still a rookie learning the ropes. Overall, it is not a bad read. If you want to stick to the series then you'll have to get "TWO FOR THE DOUGH" if nothing more than to have a complete collection and to follow the developments in Stephanie's life. But if you're a first time reader then start with "ONE FOR THE MONEY", rush thru this one and then enjoy the third book.
Rating: Summary: Not nearly as good as the first, but still good Review: I first read _Hot Six_ in the Stephanie Plum series, and absolutely adored it. Likewise, _One for the Money_ was fantastic. _Two for the Dough_, however, lacked the sparkle of those others. The belly-laughs were largely missing, as was a compelling plot. The characters are not as lively, and it felt like the whole thing was forced rather than enthusiastically and easily written. Grandma Mazur plays a larger role in this book, and is generally enjoyable, but the idiosyncracies that were so entertaining in the first book are overdone and feel contrived here. The chemistry between Morelli and Stephanie doesn't sizzle as convincingly in _Two for the Dough_, and Ranger is almost entirely absent. This book was fairly disappointing, and I found myself wishing it would end much sooner than it actually did. Still, I have high hopes for the remainder of the Evanovich books, though, because she has incredible talent. I just think _Two for the Dough_ was a bit rushed and that she didn't have a lot of passion for it. Hopefully, her spark and humor will return in _Three to Get Deadly_.
Rating: Summary: Stephanie is a joy everyone should experience. Review: Our lady Bounty Hunter is on the go again and Grandma comes along as her sidekick. Stephanie is looking for missing coffins and falls upon some bad times and bad guys, while Granny gives us a speech right out of Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry that left me simply hysterical. There is nothing to top the character of Stephanie Plum in this genre and Evanovich is simply brilliant in her presentation of a female character that will entertain you from beginning to end. Add in her crazy Italian family from Trenton, New Jersey and you are hooked. I never want these books to end. Though I do admit to reading number three out of order it would be best to read them in order for the continuity of the story. What can I say, I had book number three titled THREE TO GET DEADLY and just couldn't wait. Kelsana 2/26/02
Rating: Summary: boring Review: Ok, maybe it's just me, but I thought this book was pretty boring...not nearly as interesting as the first book. I'll probably give her another chance with number 3 though.
Rating: Summary: better than the first. Review: As soon as I finished the first book I bought this one. I read it quickly and loved it immediately.
Rating: Summary: Haven't stopped laughing yet Review: Too much fun! Buy the whole series and keep yourself in a good mood. Loads of wacky characters and situations.
Rating: Summary: Getting better and better! Review: Rolicking good time, great story and characters I am getting attached to!
Rating: Summary: TWO AS GOOD AS ONE!!! Review: Janet Evanovich has done it again. Stephanie Plum is off and running as a bounty hunter. This time she is lookin for Kenny Mancuso who shot a friend. He is a cousin to Joe Morelli, the cop who leads Stephanie a merry chase both in private life and in looking for Mancuso. Then Stephanie starts geting body parts in the mail and her house. Grandma Mazur to the rescue, with a .45. A witty fast moving book, lot of laughs and a mystery to figure out. Who would steal 24 caskets????? The funeral home where Grandma likes to visit is missing them. How is all of this connected??? You will enjoy finding out.
Rating: Summary: Funny and sassy Review: Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter who hasn't quite figured out how to get the fugitives back to the police station. She often depends on friends Ranger and sort-of love interest, Joe Morelli, to help her. In this book she's hot on the trail of Kenny Mancuso, who has just shot his best friend in the kneecap. The humor cranks up when a mortician named Spiro asks Stephanie to find twenty-four missing coffins. Stephanie has a willing ally in her grandmother, who likes nothing better than to go to a viewing at a funeral home. Together they stalk Kenny and the missing coffins, and Stephanie begins to believe that the two cases are related. This is another entertaining book in the Stephanie Plum series.
