Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Plum Choice Review: As Ranger says, " (Stephanie) never disappoints." This one is no different. It's full of blown up cars, FTA's up to causing trouble, some serious sexual encounters, and even a rabbit. Hard Eight is a Plum choice.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Gets better with each book. Review: Unlike some series which start to die out around the 5th or 6th go-around, the Stephanie Plum series just keeps getting better and better. There was still the usual happy-go-lucky, in-your-face humor always present in the previous episodes, but there was also a more serious side to this outing in that the bad guys were really nasty. I for one, liked it. It showed a depth to Stephanie that we were not acquainted with before. Can't wait for the next one!!
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Who wrote this book? Review: Once again the book after a big cliffhanger has left me disappointed. Not that it wasn't a good story, it was. It had a lot of classic Stephanie moments. I just don't understand how two of the major characters could be so different in this book from the previous seven. Neither Ranger, nor Morelli seemed like themselves. And speaking of Ranger, I waited seven books for a resolution that came in 2 paragraphs and a "I've got to go?" Nope, sorry, this book was a big disappointment to me. I'm not so sure I will even bother with book 9.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: As usual, another winner.... Review: Stephanie Plum is a walking disaster and I love her all the more for it. The other characters, especially the newly added Albert Kloughn are hysterical. The entire series has been a delight to read. I only wish they were longer or perhaps that I didn't read them so quickly.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Wild Ride! Review: I look forward to experiencing every adventure with Stephanie Plum! Couldn't put it down! Great summer reading! Also recommend Shade of the Maple by Kirk Martin, perfect by the pool!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Good, but maybe pace is flagging Review: As usual pace overall is good. Would like to see more of the Ranger character. Morelli is now somewhat of a sobersides. I think Stephanie needs to progrss rather than stay in the same timewarp Still a good buy
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Probably this is Evanovich's best!! Review: After some disappointment with the seventh installment in the Stephanie Plum series, I approached this one with some trepidation. But, Stephanie and Joe, Ranger and Lula, Bob and Grandma Mazur are back!! And they are better than ever in a novel that is a little darker than its predecessors, but a good solid story full of the belly laughs we've all come to expect in a Plum!! I am now eagerly awaiting #9--only about a year to go!!
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Heartache Review: Okay, so I love this series for the characters and not the "everybody knows who done it" storylines. The fact that the cliffhangers are all of the "will she or won't she do him or the other guy" variety sort of begs for that level of interest. So sue me - I was very interested. While the storyline may be darker this time around, it seems to me that Stephanie's wit and kick ass presence continued to dim right along with it. She seems to think less of herself when, based on her track record, she should be absolutely 100% behind herself. Her continued self-doubt after all this time is annoying and not very entertaining. I recommended this series to my 20something daughter as an object lesson in snatching victory out of the jaws a defeat. My mistake. AND what the heck is Ranger (a formerly intriguing character and sexy character - something my daughter and I definitely agreed on!!!) doing sounding and acting like her ex-(for good reason if you ask me)-fiance Joe Morelli. Stephanie's interest in Ranger, a man who didn't treat her like a moron, was one of her most promising qualities. But noooooo - suddenly in the eighth book this popular male character (just check out all the fan fic written about him)is making fun of her just like the guy she was smart enough to dump (the one who thinks she should get a job at a button factory - who by the way is the same FTA she brought to heel in the amazingly funny and unique first book). The author has even given Ranger one of Morelli's more annoying and most often repeated quips - "You want me bad." Puleeeeze. Along with him channeling Morelli she's given him a relationship with a mysterious "other woman" to annoy and further mess with Stephanie's practically absent self-esteem(what the heck happend to Morelli's mysterious relationship with Teri Gilman that used to mess with Stephanie's self-esteem?). Adding insult to injury, from a character continuity standpoint the author has made Ranger as sexually predatory as Morelli was at the beginning of the series. Yuck! It's like invasion of the body snatchers only not as plausible and certainly not as much fun. My advice to the author is forget the attempts at romance and concentrate on giving us back a strong female protagonist and interesting storylines minus the overused plot devices and stereotypical characters (for the love of God please loose Mooner). This isn't character development, it's character assasination. The characters that were one the heart of this series are no longer recognizable or very likable.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Janet...PLEASE don't get tired of Stephanie! Review: I normally wait until a book has been out at least a few weeks and then buy it used or at least reduced....Not Janet's books! I am always on the "list" to get my hands on them as soon as they are released. This latest adventure is not a disappointment. I prefer to think of Stephanie as more "mature" and "serious" rather than to think of this book as different and less fluffy than the author's previous books. I loved it...start to finish. Anyone that has not read the previous 7 books should start with One For The Money and read them in order so that they can fully appreciate all of the characters. All are present and accounted for in Hard Eight with the introduction of yet another wannabe bounty hunter. Janet has the sense of humor that keeps the faithful glued to the book from the time we sit down until we turn the last page. I hope she never tires of Stephanie because I know I won't. The only disappointment now is that I'll have to wait at least a year for book nine! Nobody makes me laugh out loud all through a book like Janet Evanovich does. Thank you!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Finally Ranger! Review: As usual, this book was worth the wait and the first hardcover book I have bought this year that was not a huge diappointment (e.g. Cornwell's Isle of Dogs). There is the usual laugh out loud parts, and Grandma Mazur and Lula are their usual hilarious self. I must say, however, that I would have been deeply disappointed if Evanovich had not lived up to the deal with Ranger and Stephanie and she did not disappoint. Nevertheless, a few more details would have helped. After all, this is Ranger we are talking about! Even Vinnie did a bit of work this time, which was a nice surprise. Great stuff, but could have used another cliffhanger.
