Rating: Summary: A Disappointment Review: Very much a disappointment. Feels contrived. An over abundance of political correctness does not compensate for a contrived story and lack of suspense. Seems like a man wrote the conversation scenes between the women. Lets hope that Mr Patterson dumps co-author Gross and gets back to writing his own great stuff.
Rating: Summary: disappointing sequel in this promising series Review: This second book in the Women's Murder Club series was okay -- entertaining enough and a quick read -- but I had really enjoyed the first in the series, 1st to Die, and was looking forward to this sequel. I was disappointed, though, finding this installment less thrilling and less engaging. The murders and solution were less interesting; whereas 1st to Die had lots of twists and revelations, this has one twist that's not really very surprising, and there is no mystery to speak of -- a straightforward motive that precludes any tension building as the case proceeds. Also, perhaps because the author assumes you've read the first book, he doesn't bother to devote much space to character development, which is unfortunate since it is the friendship and abilities of detective Lindsay Boxer and her friends, the D.A., the reporter and the coroner, that make the series interesting. The appearance of Lindsay's absentee father is a nice touch, though, and adds to our understanding of her character.Less forgivable is that characters make silly mistakes. For example, Lindsay decides to follow a dangerous suspect into an unknown, dark location knowing that her cell phone battery is dead and that no one knows where she is. Ouch. How is that consistent with the main character being intelligent? Another, less critical but still annoying, mistake -- characters refer to "Zena the Warrior Woman". Do they mean "Xena, Warrior Princess" perhaps? Did anybody proof this? Print is large, chapters are short, and there's lots of white space -- it's nominally 400 pages, but is probably only about 250. All-in-all, this is a moderately enjoyable pseudo-thriller that may leave you feeling a bit short-changed. Just my opinion, but I recommend buying it used or checking it out from the library.
Rating: Summary: Give Me a Break Review: This was my first James Patterson and it may very well be my last. What an inaccurate view of a female cop. Dead cell phones...no radio system...no backup again and again. In real life, she'd have been dead or on leave pending investigation. Reckless behavior. Intuitive hunches. More like a loose cannon that got very lucky. One of the other reviews talked about gun inaccuracies. I think the biggest inaccuracy was bad police procedure. So bad it wasn't believable. I listened to all the tapes in the book, but I won't look for another James Patterson.
Rating: Summary: Average James Patterson Review: 2nd Chance sticks exactly to the formula of most of his books, there is a killer who may be anyone and he is loose!! And just when you think you know who it is...suprise!!! James Patterson is the best at this kind of stuff, pick up any of his books for a plane ride.
Rating: Summary: Poor Marks on Marksmanship Review: More than once, James Patterson had Lindsay Boxer "take her Glock off safety." He also had Chemera "put a full clip" into a 38 revolver. There needed to be a technical editor who is familar with firearms assist Mr. Patterson. A Glock has an integrated safety in the trigger and a revolver does not use a clip.
Rating: Summary: Deserves four stars!! Review: I must admit the story was great but I hated the ending. I felt that this book was slightly rushed. The end of the first book "The First to Die" left a huge cliff hanger and then when I read this book "2nd Chance", not much was mentioned about it. I felt I was left hanging!! Like in some of his others book the killer is mentioned once, even though, I didn't guess who it was.... I'm starting to realize the more books I read by him are getting predictable. I will always be a James Patterson fan but now I know I have to read his books a few months apart so I don't have to guess quickly who the villian is. I wasn't on the edge of seat reading this book but again it was greatly entertaining.
Rating: Summary: 2nd in the series Review: The women's murder club has to solve another case, this one deals with a racist. According to the clues given, he's a sharpshooter, and very cocky since he killed police officers. The twist is, it deals with Lindsay's past with her father. He was never there, and all of a sudden he wants to be in her life.
Rating: Summary: TOTALLY AWESOME READ! Review: James Patterson does it again. If you're looking for a really great, fast-paced, fast-read mystery, then you definitly should read this book. "First to Die" was the first in the Women's Murder Club mysteries. I really loved it! This one didn't disappoint me either. "2nd Chance" is as good as the first. You can read it in one day!
Rating: Summary: Same Formula as 1st to Die Review: I had to give this book four stars, but only because it follows the EXACT same formula as the first book. The plot is still very exciting and the story grabs you. I made the mistake of reading one right after the other and it became too predictable to how the story was going to end. I would highly recommend this book, but not right after you've read the first one. In this novel you follow the Women's Murder Club again, but this time it is a serial sniper that is taking people out. There is a "women's" story intertwined, though not love this time, but there's a pregnancy and Lindsay is reunited with her dad. Patterson does a good job casting suspicion on certain characters to sidetrack you. The end will surprise the reader, but only as to who the killer actually is. You think you've caught him, but have you really? Same formula as the first one...
Rating: Summary: Riviting Review: Four women, friends all involved some how with the Justice system are drawn together by a series of murders. When the killings reach out and touch the four friends they unite to try and find the clues and links to solve the crime. Patterson writes from a womans point of view with finesse. Once again he has presented us with a tale full of twists and blind mazes that will keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you guessing clear to the end as to who is the killer. Well written and fast paced. Beverly J Scott author of Righteous Revenge
