Summary: Not as good as the first, the still up there!
Review: I have to say that Lee Child has made a smashing debut in mystery writing with his Jack Reacher novels. For some reason, I liked the storyline in the first book better, but this one wasn't too far below it. He kept the action going at all times, and kept you wondering what was going to happen to who, and when. As with the first one, he was able to write a great book without the profanity that a lot of writers use. That in itself puts him right near the top of my list. I can't wait to dive into the third Reacher novel and see where he ends up next.

Summary: This is a decent book, right?
Review: This was not as good as Killing Floor, right? But it's still a decent read, right? My biggest criticism of Child's books is his abuse of the word "right", right? No one I know uses that word at the end of every third sentence, right? Yet EVERYONE in this book does, right? And it's VERY annoying and distracting, right? The plot is far-fetched, Reacher is an Uber-mensch whom anyone would've killed off right from the start, and the main baddie is a cartoon cut-out (why does he have to weigh 400 pounds?) Still, it was a fun, easy read. Mr. Child-PLEASE lose the "rights", right?

Summary: Advice for those people influenced by the negative reviews!
Review: As a Lee Child fan I am surprised by some of the negative comments in these reviews. Before you read Die Trying (or any of Lee's books) please be warned : THESE BOOKS ARE FICTION! If you want factual accounts of FBI procedures, read an FBI manual. If you can't handle coincidences in a novel, how the hell do you function when they occur in reality? Die Trying is a thoroughly enjoyable action thriller, a work of FICTION. Jack Reacher is a tough-as-guts, intelligent FICTIONAL character. For the love of Pete, loosen up, people!

Summary: still lovin' jack
Review: While this isn't as good as "Killing Floor" I still liked it. The beginning is terrific! It kind of gets bogged down and contrived, but it's still a good romp.

Summary: Uneven pace, thin plot
Review: I enjoyed Child's first book, Killing floor, quite a bit. I therefore had high expectations for this one. Unfortunately, those expectations were, for the most part, unfullfilled. The book started out intriguing enough, with lots of action and suspense, but started to deteriorate and get crushed under its own weight halfway through. For the most part the scenes with Reacher, and Holly were interesting enough, but these were alternated with scenes involving the FBI and military characters which were somewhat dull and redundant at times. Those characters were very boring and those scenes were unnecessary in many cases. And the bad guys were just plain stupid. If they had any sense they would have simply killed Reacher, either when they kidnapped Holly, or at the very least when they brought him back to the camp. However then there would be no story, so Reacher is allowed to live and wreck havoc on the villans. And Reacher himself, while interesting, is a little too perfect, he knows all, sees all, and can do anything. There is still some decent action and suspense through some parts of the book though. It just would have been a lot better if it had been cut down, and focussed more on the main characters instead of too much emphasis on the supporting cast. I'll have to read another one of Child's novels to form a final opinion on him.

Summary: All good sense overboard!
Review: This book in fact has good pace, but the problem is that all else seems to have been thrown overboard in order to achieve that. First off, good, sensible plot development - there are just far too many coincidences: why the hero just 'happens' to be next to where the woman is snatched, why the baddies don't get rid of him earlier (he's six-five, menacing and with a serious attitude problem!), etc, etc. And any character depth also goes out the window, particularly the baddies: they're all just a bunch of faceless, interchangeable morons who wave guns and shout dumb orders. Fast pace, but overall you can't help feeling this is just the book version of a rambo movie: seriously insulting to the intelligence.

Summary: Good adventure series shaping up.
Review: Jack Reacher is a good protagonist, and no less believable than Dirk Pitt, James Bond, etc. Any action adventure takes some willing suspension of disbelief as well the ability to accept coincidences. That said, I have become a Reacher fan. As in "Killing Floor" he gets in the wrong place at the wrong time and is considered a bad guy by other good guys. Using whatever resources are at hand he presses on and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I did think "Killing Floor" a stronger read, but look forward to this series continuing.

Summary: Wonderful
Review: If you like the genre, then this is it - absolutely the best there is now, in my opinion. If there are other authors as good, I'd like to read them - please let me know who they are. Not great literature, but great and well described action.

Summary: Reached Me
Review: Not a bad book. Not usually an Action fan, but found it to be very thrilling but... Too much description of all things, my eyes eventually grazed over all the nitty gritty descriptions of weapons, mathematics to town layout. Can imagine this one in Hollywood.
