Rating: Summary: Highly Recommended Review: This book was really good!! It was a ghetto love story and a lesson about street life. The ending was really sad, had me in tears, definitely looking for a sequel. Gave 4 stars for the grammar.
Rating: Summary: Mediocre at best.... Review: I purchased and read this book at the recommendation of a co-worker who gave me rave reviews about it. Before I could even finish the first chapter, I wanted to hurl it out of the window. It is obvious to me that Ms Woods wrote about things she "heard" and not anything she ever experienced or came close to experiencing. This nook reeks of being written by one of those people who pick an image that they think is hot and try to imitate it. True to the game this book is NOT. I've read Ms Wood's bio and I respect her for beleiving in her work and hitting the streets to get it out there. My suggestion is that on the next go around she write about something she has first-hand knowledge of. Maybe then it will be believeable. She made a good choice in putting out Shannon Holme's B More Careful. That was alot better read than True to the game. I also suggest a book I just read called The Perfect Plan by James Johnson. I picked his book up at a mall in NC while on vacation and I was totally blown away. Now his book is one for the history books. If you're looking for a REAL book to read, pick up The Perfect Plan. The story grabs you from the very begining and keeps you on the edge of your seat, heart pounding, laughing, excited and some more stuff.
Rating: Summary: Off the Hook!!!! Review: True to the Game was a fascinating book. It kept me reading from the very first page up until the last (and with a reader like me that is very strange, because I never finish entire books). With the precise descriptions of each character it bought them to life in my head and also reminded me of my own life. I'm not caught up in the game, but I know many who are and it's true what they say "once your in there's no way out". All except jail or death. I've seen it happen right before my eyes and reading this book only makes me open up my eyes wider and analyzing everything and reading between the lines.
Rating: Summary: Da Bomb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: This book was so good if you read alot you should go check out this book because it is so so so good 4 real you got gena a girl from philly who meets quadir and she is swept up in the game with him it is good 4 real go read it though Also if you like it you should get b-more careful, gangsta, let that be the reason and so on
Rating: Summary: True To the Game Review: While reviewing other comments made about how realistic this book was perhaps the author meant for it to be viewed on a fictional level. Nowhere did the book state that, "This is a true story based on actually events". While some compare this book to the "Coldest Winter Ever", I too have read and liked both books. I was happy that Gena's outcome at the end was a good one. Were Winter's was not. This is also what sets the stories in both book apart!! However, "True To The Game" was very entertaining to me and I read it in 24 hours. I could not put it down until the end and wanted more. While it is great to offer an opinion, it is JUST an opinion. So my OPINION is that everyone should read the book for themselves to determine whether they would like it or not. Not because I say it is a good book. If you read and liked the "Coldest Winter" you may also enjoy "True To The Game" as well. If you haven't read either you should run out and get both, curl up and enter the worlds of both Gena and Winter! No matter how realistic or unrealistic the books are we read to escape the real pressure of lifes daily challenges. True To The Game, a story about a young female who gets caught up in the world of drugs and money, expensive clothes etc. It's about finding and losing love. About prevailing over obstacles. About being on top in the end. Who doesn't dream about that????? If you decide to read this book I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!!!
Rating: Summary: The best book ever Review: I personally think that there is no book better than True to the Game. This book will have you laughing, crying, and everything in between. True to the Game is so real it's like reading chapters from your own life. I'm feeling this book not only because I'm from Philly and I know all the places listed in the book but because I can relate to the struggles that Gina, Qua and the people surrounding them are going through. True to the Game will have you up all hours of the night and into the next morning. I respect Teri Woods for heeping it real and keeping it hood for Philly. Can't no book top this.
Rating: Summary: A Good Effort Review: Well first of all I commend Teri Woods for bringing out her book although the publishing companies didn't want to publish her manuscript. I will say that the book was a good effort, but not off the hook. The negative side is, as many others said, the characters were not developed so you could not follow them and become emotionally involved in the book. There were to many characters just thrown on the scene, so I found myself having to re-read sentences trying to follow the story. Qua and Gena's relationship was the most developed relationship which I was semi-involved in, but their relationship wasn't developed either. He took her out of town, they had a nice time, he took her shopping, and boom.... there is the foundation of their relationship. Now she is so in love she can't see straight and he is her soulmate. There was no background as to where their love came from or them growing together through any situations. It was just that he bought her plenty of things. There were plenty of times I just wanted to stop reading the book, but I had to know what the hype was all about. The book was exagerated to me. I know some drug dealers make it to be millionaires, but not many. She should have been more realistic, or rather identified with more of the drug dealers that were ballers, but not have millions at their disposal. What millionaire do you know that takes his coke to some lil' lady that can't even pay her rent? And supposively he was moving plenty of kilos! Millionaires are to smart for stuff like that. They are not on front street with just any ole person. Teri had alot of unnecessary murder. It was just not a good plot and no plot for that matter. Now that I think about it, I should have given her 2 stars. The 3 stars is for effort. I didn't hate the book. Its just that it was unrealistic, had no plot or moral to the story, it was just a bunch of killing and slanging dope. The end was STUPID! I can't believe that she did that to Qua! He was the best thing about the story. It should have ended different. If you want to read a real street story...PLEASE READ THE COLDEST WINTER EVER!!!!! Now that book gets 10 stars.
Rating: Summary: True to the Game Review: I think that this book had a decent plot but it could have been written a little better. There were so many spelling errors and at one point the next page started in the middle of another sentence other than that ending sentence on the previous page. I also agree that there were too many characters in the story. Some of these people didnt even have much relevance to what happened in this book. So maybe if a different author had written this book (with the same events), it would have been much better.
Rating: Summary: TRUE TRUE AND MO' TRUE Review: This book was excellent. It is a great illustration of the street life and its consequences. It is the kind of book that everyone can read and understand even if it doesn't pertain to their life. For some it can be great entertainment and for others it can be just the warning they need. Once you pick it up you won't put it down until its over. After you read this one be sure and read B-More Careful. Its written by a different author but follows the story.
