Rating: Summary: ILLEGAL DRUG CULTURE Review: TRUE TO THE GAME had the potential to be a really good book because the author picked an interesting and relevant topic. Information about the illegal drug culture and its accompanying violence always makes an important statement. However, Ms. Woods glamorized the drug trade and the people at the top of it. She showed hustlers as heroes and their women as "paper" starved boy-toys who would do anything to be a part of the life. There was far too much emphasis on the money and far too little on what drugs do to a community and to society. It didn't discuss the addict who steals from his mother or the addict who becomes a prostitute to satisfy their habit. It didn't describe the neighborhoods that become visual wastelands. And it didn't describe the daily fears that everyday people are forced to live. Also, this book gave a cinderella ending to Gena, the lead female character. It was all about the money! If there was one good thing about TRUE TO THE GAME, it allowed violence and death at all levels in the "trade" to show that no one was ever safe. In addition to comments about the story contents, this book should be professionally edited before it is reprinted. There are fare too many errors.
Rating: Summary: The hottest book I read this year Review: I had just gotten finish reading the book yesterday. In the week I read the book, it had me always wondering what is going to happen next. I think the book was so hot that after i was done reading it had me wondering about the characters lives what would they be like if the story haven't ended where it did. This book to me was a multi-purpose novel: It was romance novel, a blueprint, a survival guide, and a guide full of landmarks all in one. If there's was another for the book, it would definately be called "The Blue Print" because it shows the ways to handle life from the poor to the riches. That's why I give the 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: Off The Meat Rack Review: Outstanding! This book was an excellent portrayal of how life is, was and still is from the 80's up until the current day. For a while there, I thought Teri was writing about the ATL. I am glad it was decided to self-publish cause this was on that the industry truly slept on. I look forward to the next and wish Ms. Woods much success. Stay True To Yourself and you will always be True to the Game.
Rating: Summary: Great Read! Review: This was a good book with a story that just kept you wanting more. True to the game is what it is all about. It reminds me of the "day" when the game was played that way, but time has changed and so have the players. This story did remind me of 'The coldest winter ever" and Capital City too. Good story with subtance and makes you want to read more and more... I did enjoy it very much and looking forward to other stories written by Ms. Woods... Hats off to you my sista...
Rating: Summary: A Very Good Read Review: I really enjoyed this book by Teri Wood. It reminded me of The Coldest Winter Ever which is another excellent book. I was sorry when the book ended. Is there a sequel in the works? Would love to see one. You go head Ms. Wood. I LOVED IT!
Rating: Summary: IT FELT AS IF I NEW THE PEOPLE PERSONALLY Review: TERI WOODS GET MUCH RESPECT FOR THIS BOOK. SHE MAKES YOU FEELL AS IF YOU ARE ONE OF GENA'S FREINDS AND SHE IS TELLING YOU ABOUT HER GLAMEROUS LIFE WITH QUA. ALSO HER AND HER BEST FREIND SHRIAH REMINED ME OF ME AND MY BEST FRIEND(HOW THEY THOUGHT OF EACH OTHER AS SISTERS). THE CHARACTERS WHERE SO REAL A THE PLOT WAS SO DEEP. IT KEPT YOU WANTING MORE AND MORE IS WHAT YOU GOT. WHEN QUA DIED I CRIED IT FELT AS IF I LOST A VERY CLOSE FRIEND. IT WAS ALMOST AS IF I NEW WHAT GENA WAS GOING THREW. I WAS EVEN ASKING GOD NOT TO TAKE HIM FROM HER. BUT I AM HAPPY THAT QUA HAD SUCH GREAT FRIENDS THAT WANTED TO TAKE CARE OF GENA WHEN HE WAS GONE. THE BEST PART THAT I REALLY LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK WAS WHEN GENA FOUND THE MONEY. I LIKE HOW TERI MADE IT KNOWN THAT QUA WAS RIGHT THERE WITH HER WHEN SHE FOUND IT. THAT SHE SOULD FEEL HIS PRESENCE AND EVEN HIS GRIP ON HER. IT LET HER NO THAT HE WAS FINNALY AT REST WHEN SHE FOUND THE MONEY. NOW ALL WE NEED IS A SEQUAL.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS DEFINITLY A BOOK WORTH READING Review: This book was off the hook but the ending need a little more to it......thats y i gave it 4 starts instead of 5.....but the book was sooooooo sad.......i never ever cried just readin a book and i cried ehile reading the book......this book made me cry like i was really feeling her pain.....wow i loved this....i think kids my age who hate reading like me should definitly read this book....and if they've read this book the should read "The Coldest Winter Ever" which is also a GREAT book....take my word 4 it these 2 books are definitly a must read!
Rating: Summary: PICK IT UP TODAY Review: It was DA BOMB.Teri out did herself with this one.I loved it.To be honest my favorite character would have to be Quadir. Quadir and Gena meet and then go to the Bahamas and they become madly in love. When Quadir died I cried it was so sad.I loved so much it woke in the middle of the night just finish the end.Even though Gena didn't use her head until the end I still loved it.
Rating: Summary: hard core Review: Wow! This book is hard core street tough. The language is about as harsh as it could possibly be and so are the characters but once you get past that you'll find a good story. If you read Pimp by Iceberg Slim or anything by Donald Goines then you'll enjoy this novel. Kimberley Wilson, author of 11 Things Mama Should Have Told You About Men
Rating: Summary: Keep the message, lose the editor. Review: True to the game was an excellent fable; however, the writing was terrible, which is the reason why I reduced the review from five stars to four. I really enjoyed the plot, which often caused me to smile, laugh, become livid and cry, throughout certain scenes. I believe that it sends an important message to my peers and to a much larger audience. In my opinion, the synopsis of the book is the fallen of a young couple in love and thier friends, who struggled throughout their childhoods, due to the temptations and glamour of fast money and lavish luxuries. Overall, I believe that the lesson to be learned from reading this book is that anything that comes too easy in life is not worth having, due to the consequences, which can sometimes mean a life.
