Summary: It was GREAT
Review: When i purchased the book, and read the reviews, i was very excited to read it, people were comparing it to silence of the lambs, a literary classsic, from what i hear although i havent read it myself yet, i plan to do so this summer. You have an idea of who it is throughout, and the new clues that get discovered along the way really get you into the book. The ending really suprises you, and i definetly recoomend this book. You know what sucks, I walways try to give, like insight into the book, but i never make anything that sounds good, all i know is that it was good, and buy it!

Summary: Great read
Review: I thought this was an outstanding book with exception to the ending. There were too many unanswered questions about the killer. The killer seemed to be the only one you wouldn't suspect unless you were writing a book and trying to fool readers. The ending definately pulled down an otherwise outstanding read.

Summary: What Does A Really Creative Plot + Great Writing Equal?
Review: The Poet! This book was really fun. While I am a fan of Connelly's Harry Bosch series, I was still able to fall for Jack McEvoy. I thought that Connelly's premise was very creative and great for bibliophiles.

The killer uses Poe's literary works as a basis for his murders. What a fabulous way for Connelly to merge his genius with the brilliance of Poe - one of the genre's greats.

I just could not put this one down. I found myself reading under the covers with my book light. A fun vacation from reality.

Summary: A great standalone break from the Bosch series
Review: Connelly's one of the best writers in the biz and his Harry Bosch series is excellent. The Poet is a departure from this series, this time the lead character is a crime reporter...Connelly's profession (write what you know, right?). This novel is about a killer who leaves clues referring to Edgar Allan Poe. There's also an extremely creepy pedophile and his network of Internet buddies and his photography methods are enough to give any parent nightmares. That said, Connelly is a masterful writer, and his novels are not to be missed.

Summary: KEEPS YOU GUESSING ALL THE WAY!
Review: I first read "Blood Works" and loved it, so I picked this up, it was so exciting and suspenseful I couldn't put it down. This was my second book to read by Connelly and I just picked up "Trunk Music", I can't wait to start reading. "Blood Works and The Poet" are both outstanding from beging to end. Both are a must. You won't be sorry.

Summary: A great book, but lacked a great conclusion
Review: Like most other reviewers I thought the ending was weak, thats all I will say without spoiling anything but the rest of the book was excellant, one of my favorites... It is worth the read, even with what I thought was a poor ending.

Summary: The Poet was great start to finish, including the ending!
Review: I enjoyed this well written thriller. Like a few others I could not put it down and indeed liked the ending. Sure, the second twist was a surprise but part of the ending was placing Jack in a bad spot with Rachel. Essentially, Jack blew it & now must live with it. Like life - life goes on.

Summary: The curse of the "Scooby Doo" killer....
Review: I enjoyed reading this book but the ending was very weak. I got the impression that Connelly didn't know who to choose to be the killer when he had to discard the obvious one. When I got to the end, I thought "oh", how dull.

Summary: Excellent right up until the ending
Review: This book was totally enthralling. I don't usually enjoy suspense thrillers, but this one had me. The first twist at the end was superb, but then the author shoves a different killer into the mix. Why have this second twist (the one that finally reveals all) when the first twist was far more believable and chilling? I devoured this book in one day, relishing in the quality of writing and suspenseful plot, only to have the last few pages leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Summary: Like, hey, Scoob, I knew who it was all along . . .
Review: The book did not motivate me to write this review so much as Connelly's comments here motivated me to write it.

He's rather pompous to believe that criticism of this novel's conclusion is somehow the result of readers who just didn't get what he was trying to do. Readers are smarter than Connelly believes they are, and the ending comes across more like a Scooby Doo plot twist than it does a realistic look at crime, as Connelly wishes to convince us it is.

Anyway, I'll give it three stars because it did keep me intrigued until the conclusion when Freddie, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby pulled the mask off the killer. (And he'd have gotten away with it, too, if it wasn't for that meddling reporter!)
