Summary: For sheer entertainment, not bad
Review: Certainly a looser plot than most Patterson /Gross novels, and tending too much toward the absurd plotting, but still not a complete waste of time if you like to knock off a quick read in five or six hours without straining your gray matter too much. Likable characters, good pacing, tight writing, but just shy of the usual pizzaz I've come to expect from Patterson, especially in the Alex Cross books, which seem almost on another level by comparison. Still on my "read" list, but may be on probation next time.

Summary: A Must for Women's Murder Club Fans
Review: The Women's Murder Club makes its third appearance in 3rd Degree. Lindsay Boxer, Claire Washburn, Jill Bernhardt and Cindy Thomas are four of the closest friends with occupations that couldn't be any different. Lindsay's a detective. Claire's a medical examiner. Jill's the Assistant D.A. and Cindy's a reporter.

But these ladies use their occupations and their close friendship to help solve crimes. This time, they're embarking on an investigation that will leave one of them in grave danger.

As Lindsay's jogging, an explosion rocks her to her knees. Three people are dead, one child is missing and a cryptic message is left behind by someone calling himself August Spies.

A successful businessman becomes the victim of a mysterious murder. August Spies leaves another message.

Targets are being named and people are dying.

In the middle of the heated investigation, Lindsay learns of a secret one of the Women's Murder Club members has been hiding. She's in her darkest hour and desperately needs the support of her friends.

Lindsay's also surprised to find a federal officer that's been assigned to the case is captivating her interest. Given her past history, she's reluctant with good reason.

Before anyone can get on with their lives, they must find out who August Spies is and how they can stop more people from dying. The solution won't come without the expense of losing someone very close to them.

Fans anxiously await each release of the Women's Murder Club series. While you can predict certain outcomes of 3rd Degree as you read, you won't be able to guess the actions behind them. Readers who follow this series closely will be drawn to this book just to catch up with their friends - Lindsay, Claire, Jill and Cindy.

Summary: 3rd Degree
Review: Wow! I am once again reminded why Patterson is my all time favorite author!! Amazing plot, a HUGE surprise and at one point, brought me to tears. I have to admit, I am beginning to like the Women's Club better than Alex Cross!!

Summary: Can he Get Any Better????
Review: I have to say two things about this installment of the series. One I LOVED it and Two....I'm confused.
I loved the story and I thought that there was a great story line that had you going from the start to the end and never knowing what was going to happen until it happened. I couldn't put it down at all; I was always dying to know what was going to happen next. It is rare when I find a book that I can't predict--especially a mystery. I want to be a criminal profiler so I love reading mysteries and I love it even more when I can't figure out what is going to happen next.
Now the reason I'm confused....I don't understand one thing that happened in the book. I don't understand why they had to kill off a main character. I know that sometimes killing a main character or a friend of a main character can further the story, and while in a way that's true here...I also believe that you could have achieved the same results without killing off this character. She wasn't killed to make Lindsay more motivated to solve the case; in fact I think it even hindered her some....as it did with the other two. I believe that you could have gotten the same result by killing off another character, but then again I could and may be wrong.
Now the ending also confused me....You only get half an answer to one of the questions asked in the book. Does that mean that there's another book coming??? I don't know but I am hoping and praying that there be. I have to say that for some the ending might not bother you, I am the sort of person who hates having a writer leave the ending up in the air or having you decide how it's going to end. I tend to have a problem with endings where my mom and grandmother don't! My grandmother is always telling me that because I'm studying to become a criminal profiler my brain works differently then others. She believes that because you have to have all the pieces of a puzzle to make a profile...I need all the pieces of a character (from a TV show, movie, and book) before I'm satisfied. I tend to agree with her. So take that information in account before deciding if you want to read this book or not.
Finally in one review the reviewer made a point that I strongly disagree with so I have decided to tell you what I think and feel about that statement. She said that it focused more on romance then the thrill of it. There are some parts which feature romance, however for 99% of the book there is nothing remotely romantic going on. I would say that about two or three chapters at the most deal with romance while the rest contains suspense, mystery and grief....!

Summary: Patterson diehard after all these years
Review: Bought it Saturday morning, finished Saturday evening. I feel that Andrew Gross brings something to the table. I am beginning to like Lindsey Boxer and her 3 women friends almost more than Alex Cross. A bomb explodes, Lindsey saves a child, and her cohorts once again meet to solve an apparent terrorist
activity. Takes me back to the late 60's, early 70's, when Patty Hearst was a volatile influence in the media. Once again Patterson is a quick and interesting read. I shed a tear when one of the four met her demise.

Summary: Just Like Patterson
Review: This is a little less than your typical Patterson as at times it focuses more on romance than the thirll of it.

While partial to earlier books where there is more suspense, this book is an easy, light read. Easy summer beach reading.

Summary: This thriller has no thrills
Review: What began as an interesting premise in 'first to die' has denigrated into an abyss of banality. Nothing in this book is remotely original, and there is never a thrilling moment. With almost more chapters than pages, this 'quick read' is not worth any investment in time.

Summary: What a disappointment!
Review: I enjoyed the first two books in this series, so pre-ordered 3rd Degree. Unfortunately, this third entry is more like an outline of a story than an actual novel. This time around the embarrassingly short three page "chapters" seem emptier of content, the characters are two-dimensional, and the implausible actions of the main character Lindsay Boxer are those of a comic book super hero. What were the authors thinking when they wrote this, and how could their editors accept this drivel?

Summary: A Fast Light Read
Review: Okay, so it isn't War & Peace. If you are looking for something fast and light to read, this is it. I read the entire book off and on for a couple of hours. I consider this type of book, a bathtub book. Fill the tub with bubbles, light some candles, have a glass of wine or a cup of tea, read the book and relax.

I liked the original James Patterson books featuring Alex Cross. If you are looking for a more intense, indepth detective novel, you need to look there.

Summary: eh?
Review: Come on people! For the love of God, someone knock someone sense into you. A plethora of four and five stars reviews for this fatuous, vapid trash? You gotta be kidding.

Now, don't go thinking you can label me a book snob; I'm as partial to a great John Grisham or Stephen King novel as the next person, or even an early Patterson thriller, but this is just nonsense. Why would anyone fork out their hard-eanred dollars to read this garbage? I don't like to call a book garbage, but this is what I am reduced to. 3rd Degree is astoundingly bad: everything about it is implausible, embarassingly bad. The characters are empty, and there may as well really not BE any. The book moves so fast and events unfold so quickly it's like watching a video on fast-forward, and the plot itself is a lod of nonsense. Terrorism? Come on. It's not developed, it's not dealt with the sensitivity it deserves. Everything here is gratuitous. Domestic abuse, too! Why would anyone waste their money on this?

3rd Degree is another greedy, badly written book, with absolutely nothing to reccomend it save for the fact that it is quick. And if you read a book just because you like it to be quick and easy (empty) then go and sit in the corner. Reading can be so much MORE than this.
