Rating: Summary: Absolutely wonderful! Review: Mr. Cannell...it's time to bring back 'Wiseguy'!
Rating: Summary: Starts of well but wanes badly towards the end. Review: Starts off great. The main characters and their emotions are excellently and believabley portrayed. The book concept is very interesting and the story unusual. However, the big con becomes too transparent as the story winds down taking the "sting" out of it. Further, the ending seems fake and contrived. It appears to me the classic problem of a great book idea that starts out well then is not finished properly. Perhaps this was a result of lack of time spent by the author on the end or simply the lack of a plan for the whole book in the beginning. If you don't care about the quality of a book's ending I would recommend it, otherwise look elsewhere. In terms of the amount of money in the con, The "Sting" may have been a mosquito bite, but in terms of how convincing and surprising the operation was, the "Sting" has this story beat by a mile.
Rating: Summary: Welcome to the World of King Con Review: I was not sure what to expect from this book. After reading "Final Victim" and "The Plan" I did not know which area Mr. Cannell would take me to. Although I liked the book and it caught my interest and awakened my curiousity, it was a little bit too detailed. (e.g. stock market and oil business) Nevertheless the book is great to read. I read the last 200 pages in one night. You never know what comes on the next page so I did not put the book aside until I knew how it would end. Again I got hooked to the amazine world of Mr. Cannell's characters. Two thumbs up for that. I truly hope Mr. Cannell is writing his next book, because I am waiting for it.
Rating: Summary: A great time for all! Review: One of the best reads of this year! It sucked me in from the start and never let me go!
Rating: Summary: What a hoot! Review: Never read any books by SJC before, but I've long been a fan of his TV shows. I guess this lets him get all those naughty words out of his system that he can't use on TV. Beyond that, this novel, like his TV shows, is a real hoot. Kind of makes me wonder if any of it is autobiographical
Rating: Summary: Terrific Review: I would like to know where he got the info. Was he talking to con men
Rating: Summary: Definitely the most thrilled book of 1997! Review: If you didn't read Mr. Cannell's three books, you'd never know what TALENT mean! There are only small overlooks in this book, but still less than the others. I was only confused at the later stage of the story: Why FBI should take orders from a DA of New Jersey? They may cooperate but would never accept the supervision of a DA
Rating: Summary: Fantastic book by Cannell again, but... Review: Here are some of the confusing overlooks in this book: 1)When Beano and Duffy Bates came down by the elevator to the casino, there was an one(1) hour time lapse(they used one hour to get down to the casino?); 2)the final sting place held at the Penn Mutual only rented two top stories by Paper Collar John, but when Tommy and Beano walked there, it became three(3) stories; 3) One of the Summerland Brothers was rejected by Tommy after that guy lost Dakota. Tommy only kept one of the brother and the other guy, Jimmy. But after the sting, Jimmy disappeared and replaced by Summerland Brothers. How come? 4) "Use the firethrower," Reno said(suggested) "Wilco," Should it be "Will do," or(?) 5) It's highly unlikely that Victoria could walk into Rina's office so easily, since the wise guy knew himself was always under surveilance all the time by the Law. His office should be like a fortress
Rating: Summary: Pulp Fiction meets The Sting! Review: Read this book! It is going to do great things and it is no suprise that a movie will be made. King Con sucks you in from the start, with one of the best introductions ever. The action starts from word one, blending humour and action together in just the right quantities. Don't ask questions, just read this book
Rating: Summary: The most entertaining book of 1997 with the poorest editing Review: Mr. Cannell should be treated with our most respect that we should not waste on the other writers. He has already shown us three books with great talents. Every one has been very tastefully plotted and done. "KING CON" is so far the better and the best! If Beano Whites would be played by John Travolta, I wish I could know sooner who would play those two female roles? Please do not ruin this great one with 2nd rated actresses! If this book could be edited by the editors of Mr. Steve Martini's "THE LIST", with shorter and clearer paragraphings instead of long and heavy blocks of paragraphs, less misspellings or sentences misplacings, and more appropriate question marks(?)and exclamation mark(!) where they should to be combined together, and most of all, if lots of the dialogues could be singled our and separated from those thick blocks of narrative paragraphs. The whole book's dialogues might vividly jump out from the pages to grap you. Readers should buy this book, read it, and keep it for your next generation's great reading experience. It's true that "THIS BOOK MADE 'THE STING' LIKE MOSQUITOS BITE!" (I was trying to type out words at 5:00AM with a soft head, I may need a good editor to correct my spellings and grammar, but thanks, not Mr. Cannell's ones.
