Rating: Summary: BEST book EVER!!!!!!!! Review: Deadline by Randy Alcorn is far better than every book I have ever read, except the Bible of course! The plot of this book is so great, you never want to put the book down. I would definitly rate this book 10 stars, if there was such a rating!!!!!! Everyone NEEDS to read this because it helps you understand God even more.
Rating: Summary: A Life Impacting Book Review: There are few books that make me really think long after I have finished reading them. Deadline is one of those few books. I read this book almost 6 months ago. Yet, I find myself thinking about issues dealt with in the book constantly. As I asked a Catholic Priest friend of mine the other day, "Have you ever thought about what Heaven will be like?" I always thought we would have unlimited knowledge, etc. Until I read this book, I really had never contemplated our role as children of God - There to Praise and Worship God. Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God almighty, who was, who is, and is to come. Mr. Alcorn may not be 100% accurate on what Heaven or Hell is like, or the role of the saints. But until we both get there, his account is as good as any other I've ever heard or read. We'll discuss his inaccuracies as brothers, once we both know; i.e. as Children of the Kingdom.
Rating: Summary: Great Book!! A mystery well worth reading. Review: This is a well written, quick read with real characters with real struggles and real questions. The mystery is good, the dialoge is great and the final scence will stay with you, much the way the final scene in "The Firm" does (the book, NOT the movie). But perhaps the very best, the most unforgetable and stirring moments are the unusual depictions of heaven.
Rating: Summary: Gripping. Honestly looks at issues of eternal significance. Review: A novel that makes you sit up and analyze what you're living for. Jake Woods gets to your heart, and becomes your friend. The life issues he is dealing with are relatable to most of us. I really appreciated the thought process he goes through on these issues-it makes it much more powerful and personal when you see what his attitudes are at first and how they change throughout the course of the novel. I was quite impressed with the author's approach to the subject of eternity. Randy Alcorn is not content to have heaven and hell described as just nebulous places, they are given space and detail and the images are compelling. I am recommending this book to all my friends, both Christians and those who are searching and researching God right now. The story and main character are so thought-provoking, I hope it encourages them to live in light of eternity.
Rating: Summary: The best book I've ever read! Review: Deadline by Randy Alcorn is by far the best book I've ever read, excluding the Holy Bible! It gives new perspective to the Bible, and keeps you interested every page of the way! It can change your life if you let it!
Rating: Summary: Great thriller with unexpected turns. A terrific read. Review: Randy Alcorn has put together a great thriller filled with incedible details. The story reflects a newpaper columnist, Jake, and his discovery experience as he investigates the tragic death of his friends after a fatal car accident where he was the only survivor. The story weaves throughout Jakes struggles and questions concerning life, death, and truth. If you like details and mystery, this is a must read.
Rating: Summary: I loved your writing style Review: I was drawn into each characters lives and relationships by your stimulating use of the english language. My imagination was stretched to new length. Most of all you caused me to think. Thank You.
Rating: Summary: Buy one for you - and one for a friend - it's THAT good! Review: I have read a lot of Christian fiction - but this is the best I have read to date. Not only was it entertaining - but enlightening. This story is basically a mystery as Jake tries to find out who "fixed" the car that killed his two best friends in an accident - while he was left alive. Jake has to deal not only with his grief - but also the wariness as he tries to find the killer. However, the story is enlightening because it helps us to understand how Jake, a liberal newspaper columnist thinks - and as he reflects upon the past we also come to understand how he related to Finney - his Christian friend who died. Reading some of Jake's columns (and the motivation behind them) helps us to understand that as Christians we often don't reach out to the media - and from this book we learn how we can reach out and make our voice heard. If nothing else, you'll want to read this book for the scene when Clarence, an African-American reporter tells the committee that deals with sensitivity training that being African American is NOT the same thing as being gay! If you like mysteries, don't miss this book. But if you're buying it for a friend, I'd recommend you just go ahead and buy two - because once you start reading, you won't want to give the book away!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Novel. I felt like rejoicing after I read it. Review: One of the best books I've ever read. YOU'LL have to read it.
Rating: Summary: A striking view of heaven in a well-crafted novel Review: Randy Alcorn accomplishes a difficult task: he weaves beautiful truth unobtrusively into the fabric of a page-turning story. Unlike many offerings in the Christian market, Alcorn displays the gifts of a writer, including symbolism, foreshadowing and touching character development. While the story progresses, Alcorn calmly and persuasively examines one man's journey toward faith in Christ.
