Summary: Unbelievable ending!
Review: This was another amazing display of Clive Cussler's writing talents. Superhero Dirk Pitt just keeps getting better and better. I have read all of the books in this series and I will admit its not the best one, but the ending makes up for it. Could this be the beginning of a new series? I hope so, the tried and true Pitt needs some time off. Cussler continues to dazzle us mere readers with his imagination and creative twists and turns! I know I will read all his books with the same enthusiasm I've always had.

But the ending is out of this world it shows a side of Pitt that I had not Read before. For once you can see that Pitt may wish he had a Family!!!keep on writing them Clive Cussler!!!

Summary: Formula? Exactly-thank goodness
Review: Is Cussler's writing formulaic? Yes, and it always has been. But that's why Cussler fans wait anxiously for his next book. We now what we are going to get. A well developed absolutely love-able protagonist, a well developed absolutely hate-able antagonist, plenty of action and subplots, and especially in his later books, a touch of absurdity. Cussler has been for the last four or five books, using a plot device I have never seen anyone use before. I won't give a way any secrets, but the plot device works and is always good for a laugh. This is a great book and I recommend it highly.

Summary: Cussler has Bottomed Out !!!
Review: I have been a fan of Cussler's books since first reading "Raise the Titanic" in the 60s, but this one was painful to listen to.

Some books are not meant to be on audio, and this was one of them. If I had to head about "sapphire blue eyes" or "cornsilk hair" one more time I thought I would scream...and the descriptions of women's clothing were ridiculous.

The episodes in this book seemed to exist in isolation and have little to do with each other beyond the most tenuous connection. The editing was poor and the story itself was contrived and formulaic. The ending was pitiful.

Cussler's books always have some kernel of reality in them, something that MIGHT happen if scientific research were to allow it. But the things in this book that were happening were just plain silly.....the oil filling (via some weird transference) an otherwise-empty briefcase once every few hours! AS IF !!!!

I think it is time for Dirk Pitt to retire and try to keep some of his former dignity.

Summary: A Good Book But Not Cussler's Best Work
Review: As with many or my fellow readers I agree that Valhalla Rising is not one of Cusslers's greatest novels. It was still a good read and I was glad I bought it. I did have the honor of meeting Cussler at a book signing and he is a remarkable man who was extremely entertaining. The good news is that a new film based on his book Sahara is being filemd!

Summary: Another great story
Review: When do we get a bad one with Dirk and Al envolved? As always, more than one plot twined together to a ultimate surprise ending. Al this time seems to step back a yard with the women advancing but with the surprise conclusion it then makes sense. Of course, the end leaves us with a glimpse of several books to come. I will look forward to each of them.

Summary: Truly Unbelievable
Review: The great thing about Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt adventures is, you know exactly what you are in for before you start. Cheesy, ridiculous dialogue, impossible escapes that cheat death by millimetres, a cool, suave almost super-human he-man hero, and a rollicking adventure that keeps your eyes glued to the pages.

Once again, Cussler delivers a fanciful adventure that shows off Dirk Pitt and Al Giodino's finest attributes. They come up against yet another evil (some may even say fiendish) megalomaniac who is intent on world domination and will allow nothing and no one to stand in his way.

There are a couple of historical tie-ins at the beginning of the book that set the scene for some big revelations at the end, rounding out a very entertaining story that will leave Pitt fans thirsting for more. The usual cameo by Cussler is played with gusto and comes far in earlier than in previous books. I get the feeling that Dirk Pitt's starting to get a little bit suspicious of this Clive Cussler character and his habit of turning up all over the world.

Plenty of new inventions for the NUMA boys to play with, plus a few tantalising theories are put forward which would indeed make the world a better place if only they were true. And the ending? Well, let's just say the ending is nothing short of unbelievable.

Summary: Save your money
Review: This book was terrible. It was cut and pasted from other works, editing was terrible, the plot predicatable and the ending utterly ridiculous. The Dirk Pitt saga's may continue but I will not be buying them.
Mr. Cussler you rave about Jack DuBrulls books, and rightfully so. He writes the type of novel you used to write, interesting and well written.
I suggest instead of buying another Cussler yawner, you buy a good book by a fresh author like DuBrull.
