Summary: Modern and artless but sleek and visceral- MEG delivers
Review: Unlike its sucessor, THE TRENCH, MEG is a straight up shark thriller, an excercise in thrills and chills and shock and awe, and a successful one because it has no other pretensions. This debut thriller is a knockout opening the MEG trilogy, which was followed by a serviceable but bloated sequel, TRENCH, which bogged down in too many subplots and flat drama. In other words, it's following the MATRIX trilogy in terms of style. Because we live in a day and age of excess and the need for non-stop stimulation has drenched the entertainment culture, Steve Alten provides us a shark that is 60 (or thereabouts) feet long and revenous with hunger. We get the usual attacks on scuba divers, beachgoers, and mariners. We get the opening scene which is a display of the violence that the creature can create. The hero is a likeable, troubled man with many enemies that serve as dry-land antagonists which we hope will be eaten sooner rather than later, and their inevitable comeuppances are satisfying. While MEG doesn't break any genre rules, it at least honors them and doesn't try to be anything else, a wise move for the first-time author. Instead, Alten serves up a hearty helping of blood and gore and violence and death and destruction and chaos and mayhem and carnage and sharks and ravenous feeding frenzies and dead stuff. Enjoy!

Review: I just had to have the book! the novel was beyond great. i rooted for Jonas and Terri, my pulse raced when the meg surfaced,then i found myself at four in the morning unable to put the book down. it will definately make you rethink the idea of megalondon being extinct. it gives one a plausible reason to believe that the super preditor could survive over the millions of years. with the viable heat and food source, there is reason to believe. other species were thought of as extinct until they were found alive! Jaws move over! Meg is on her way! JUST DONT EAT THE FIN SOUP!! BAD KARMA WILL FOLLOW YOU IF U DO! THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BE HERE, OCEANS ARE THEIR HOME OURS IS ON LAND. SHOW RESPECT AND STOP KILLING SHARKS FOR NONBENIFICAIL CARTILIAGE!! U KILL THEM AND U ARE KILLING US, THINK ABOUT THE CHIAN. WE ARE LINKED IN IT TOO. THINK ABOUT IT. ONE LINK GETS GONE AND THE WHOLE CHAIN FALLS APART. ANIMALS OUTNUMBER US SO PREDITORS ARE NEEDED. LET THEM DO THEIR JOB.

Summary: A great read no matter how many times
Review: This book is so great. It gives you an educational topic (although, i'll admit, it is exagerated) and a great storyline. I've read this book at least 5 times just for the pure entertainment it gives me. It's an easy read that i would recommend to anyone who likes sea life and adventure.

Review: I heard about this book from my mom. She was reading it over the summer and thought that I might be interested in it because of the water and sharks. I thought since I had to read a book for my college reading class. I mine as well try it. Right from the beginning of the book it grabbed me and I couldn't put the book down. The author described everything is such detail. When he would describe some of the killing parts I could picture it perfectly in my head. The language in the book was very up front. He said some things like they were. It also had a good number of historical facts in it as well. If you like the water and have any fascination with sharks, I would recommend this book to you.

Review: I've typed to you before talking about how "Great" you are but I'm really disappointed I've been telling everyone how theres going to be a meg movie! What gives! I'm waiting! The book was great so ake the damn movie! It's that easy! Unless this movie comes out you are going to lose alot of customers!!!:(

Summary: Great until the end
Review: I really enjoyed this book for the most part. I loved the premise! I loved how it started off! I thought the characters were pretty well established. The book moves along at a great pace and the great shark is frighteneing. I would have given this book a solid 4 stars if it had a better ending. I won't ruin it for anyone but I just found the ending far fetched and a little silly. If this was a movie and it ended the same way I think people in the theatre would be laughing. Exciting fun book undone by a goofy ending.

Summary: Nonstop Yikes!
Review: A quickly moving tale that plays out like old cliffhanger serials, with every event a worst-case scenario, Meg is both barely believable, yet horrifically realistic. It's a fast read you can't put down, and while you can see where some of Alten's ideas are headed fairly early on, it's still a lot of fun reading them through. Plenty of entertainment plus a little education makes this a nice read for Michael Crichton or Clive Cussler fans. Does for beach days what Robin Cook's Toxin does for a night out at the burger joint...yikes!

Summary: Awesome WORK Alten, Awesome
Review: I can not wait for meg to come to the theaters. It's been a while since a good shark movie. I've read the book and the sequal, what can I say I love Steve Altens giant monster work. Take it from me a HUGE Scifi fan Shark attack 3 will show no comparrison to this movie, NOT AT ALL. The movie sa3 was TERRIBLE I've seen alot of the bad never made it to theaters creature features and I can't even begin to imagine meg to be one of those. Trust me you'll get big hits on this movie all my friends have read the book and loved it and I know everyone will love the live action more. Python, Boa, sa3,and all those other giant creature movies will never compare with Steve Alten's books I still have not got a chance to read behemoth or what ever it is but I pray it is as good as the Meg series. One last time EXCELLENT work, Excellent!

Summary: Interesting thought but no plot and no characters
Review: The book started off ok. A prehistoric shark could still be alive at the bottom of a trench. From that point forward the story just fell apart. The plot was one dimensional and no time or effort was spent on developing the characters. The story put itself in situations of suspense but none of them were believeable. After awhile you just stop believing any of it and you just want it to be over. The back cover says this book is for fans of Cussler and Crighton. Well I like both of those authors and this book captures only the worst of those 2.
