Review: This MEG made Jaws look like a GoldFish. MEG was quite busy, and could smell quite some distance. This was Jurassic Park meets the X-Files.

Review: The book I read was called MEG and the author is Steve Alten. This is an excellent book about a sixty foot shark that has survived 200 million years. They just discovered its existence when it began to attack and eat people off the shores. It was biting whales in half and the townspeople and the US Navy had to deal with it. This book is 10 times better than the book/movie Jaws so if you like those types books like I do ,read this book MEG by Steve Alten

Summary: Quick....Catch Your Breath!
Review: If you've ever gone diving under water, you'll enjoy this book even more. You'll know when you have to breath just to survive; and you'll gulp for more air as you read! This is one helluva ride. The action is non-stop, plausible and relentless. Steve Alten has captured the fear and excitement of being at and under the sea with such danger at large. Actually, Mr. Alten completely wrecked my weekend. I started Meg around noon on a Sunday, thinking I'd just get a couple of chapters under my belt before other work that needed completion. Not so. I finished reading late that same day, gasping for breath and wondering how I'd catch up on that work. Thanks Steve, for a great day of excitement and new knowledge of the sea.

Review: After reading some of the other customer reviews, I couldn't believe that no one had realised that this book was supposed to be a bunch of all the possible cliches there is. A joke. And people actually like it?... :-D well, that tells a lot about the average IQ... :)

Review: I have read both Meg and The Trench and i think that they are just totally awesome the megalodon is totally uinstoppable i can imagine it going after whales it was aweomse as the alibino giant megalodon rammed the submarine and made it sink and when it easily killed that bull humpback whale. I think that this book should be read by everybody to all those who are shark fans. In the Trench Angel the gigantic 72 foot long 61,000 pound giant megalodon is even more sacry than the first megalodon i read about how it got into that fight with that sperm whale named mad max and easily shredding him all EXTINCT MEG AND THE TRENCH are my favorite books I WILL rad these books as many times as i want to . IF THIS MEGALOdon is totally powerful and the most fearful creature to ever liv in the ocean then i think not only this shark is king of the ocean and also i think that it should be a guardian then rather a killer machine of the oceans of the world. Summary: "Meg" is a sure fire winner
Review: Wow. This is one of the rare books that I kinda wish I'd thought of. Based on a brilliant premise, the book moves right along at a fast clip. A real sea yearn. Characters are motivated by both noble and base instincts that in some cases eerily parallel those of the prehistoric predator...a message for the human race? I've already bought Alten's sequel, which I am devouring ("The Trench").

Review: In his first novel Meg, Steve Alten writes a tale of a giant killer shark (Such Originality!!!!). But serously, Meg is not a disaster, well it is a disaster (story) but not one in the form of words on paper, it keeps a person reading. After a short slow start Alten places some recycled characters into short chapters in a recycled story. But the length of the chapters and reused feel does not matter. Meg is action, and Alten prevents a reader from his or her attention to wander elsewhere. Also, I must commend Alten on his research on the Megaladon's (Big dang sharks.) which winds up as very interesting reading. So to sum things up, Alten creates a world wich action and suspense lovers will embrace and enjoy not worship but enjoy none the less. A very good first work.

Review: I struggled to finish this book. I realize it's popular fiction, not meant to be taken too seriously, but COME ON. So many of the plot devices were unbelievable, characters were cardboard, dialogue was idiotic, the writing was just crappy. The author for some reason feels the need to use exclamation marks (!) during the narrative throughout the book. As if he couldn't generate enough excitement, so he'll say 'The shark jumped out of the water!' Where was the editor! This book should not have been published!

Summary: are you people insane?
Review: After a couple of days of mind-numbing reading I had to put this book down for good last night with 50 pages remaining. I purchased this book based on the number of positive responses on this message board, and now I wonder what in the world so many of you were thinking? This book was terrible, hands down! Very unimaginative, predictable, and poorly written. I thought I was reading something written by a junior high student. Even outside of the shallow character development and unrealistic shark behavior, the shark sequences weren't even exciting. Shark reaches warmer water by swimming in other shark's blood; shark prefers eating puny, bony humans over large, fat whales (which were apparently very easy to kill); shark propels itself many feet out of water to get helicopter. Come on, please!

Review: The Amazon site recommended MEG for readers who enjoy Peter Benchley's books, so I decided to check it out. I read it in one sitting-I just couldn't stop. Mr. Alten does an excellent job in bring you right into the plot. I'd have sworn my toes were getting nibbled at several point in the story. I look forward to more from this author.
