Rating: Summary: A Dangerous Fortune Review: I have owned the unabridged audio book version of this novel for a couple of years or so and am about to purchase a copy to give as a present. The other reviews on this book do a very good job of describing it, so I will not repeat any of those descriptions. This is a very entertaining story that will hold almost anyone's attention. Yes, there are a couple of explicit sex scenes that might offend some people, but it seemed to me that they were an important part of the story. (If Mr. Follett threw them in gratuitously, then he fooled me.) I have loaned this tape to several of my friends and EACH of them has told me on several occasions how much he or she enjoyed it. And I have enjoyed it at least three times, myself. My guess is that you will too.
Rating: Summary: A Safe Bet. Review: This is not Ken Follett's best work, but that still makes it twice as good as most fiction. Follett introduces us to the world of English finance in the late 1800s. The rich period detail and somewhat dry subject matter tend to make this a plodding tale a times, but well worth the effort. The story opens with the mysterious drowning death of a student at a boy's school. Was it murder? This questions hangs for decades as Follett wends his way through the Victorian upper crust and its seedy underbelly, and ultimately--as you know it must--the answer has tremendous and exciting implications for the dueling families we've come to know. Follett's ability to present a large cast of fully-fleshed and complex characters, who follow motivations that take hundreds of pages to define, is unparalleled. Never in his books do you have to say to yourself, "Oh yeah, right." The scope of the novel is impressive. I call it sophisticated fiction. --Christopher Bonn Jonnes, author of Wake Up Dead.
Rating: Summary: Fortunate enough to read it Review: I agree that Follett tends to follow a similar pattern in all his books that's why I take a break between his novels, however it is a successful pattern that contains memorable characters, action and intrigue. After I was finished I wanted to return to find our more about the Pilasters.
Rating: Summary: Follett on murder, politics & money in Victorian England Review: A fast paced story of great intrigue in Victorian England. He captures the life of high society whose morals were meant to be somewhat prim & proper but were in fact almost the exact opposite. A great easy read, ideal for a vacation on the beach or a long plane ride - but don't expect a masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: Another winner for Follett! Review: Follett's ability to paint an image in the mind is unmatched. His descriptions of England in the late 1800s give you a marvelous image of life in that period, and he creates a fascinating discussion of the world of finance at that time. The characters are memorable, and the societal undercurrents of the time are well-treated.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic book by Ken Follett Review: Dangerous Fortune is highly recommened by this reader. The plot was tight and fast moving and it was fascinating to be in the world of Victorian England. Read this book, it is great entertainment.

Rating: Summary: Fantastic, sophisticated novel about banker's family Review: I can't leave this book without reading next chapter. I like books about human envy, intrigues and will to gain power and money.
Rating: Summary: Good entertainment Review: This is the kind of book that we all know and love. A book that you can sit down too and have it pertain to nothing that goes on in your real life. It's characters are personable. You will root for the hero, and truly despise his opponents. I definatly suggest sitting down in an easy chair with this book for an afternoon or two.
Rating: Summary: Great entertainment Review: The last 200 pages of this book simply fly. Some of the plot twists aren't particularly original, but the author certainly knows how to hook the reader with his prose. A worthwhile, memorable read, but definitely not classic literature.
