Summary: The Southern Sisters are Back and Better than Ever.....
Review: Everyone's favorite southern sisters, bigger than life and soon to be married for the fourth time, Mary Alice (Sister) and prim and petite, Patricia Anne (Mouse) had really been looking forward to the big benefit to raise money for the restoration of Birmingham's Vulcan monument. They had front row center seats and couldn't wait for the promised finale of thirty Elvis impersonators all on stage, together. But, it seems that wherever the girls go, trouble follows and sure enough, one member of the high kicking Elvis chorus line keels over and crashes, dead, into the orchestra pit. It turns out that poor "Elvis" was murdered, stabbed in the back and to make matters worse, Patricia Anne finds the murder weapon, a switchblade knife, at the bottom of her purse..... Ann George has written a light, fast paced mystery, full of original quirky characters and vivid scenes that come alive on the page. But it's her crisp, witty writing and laugh out loud southern humor that really makes this book, as it does in all her others, stand out and no one captures the essence of life in the south, with all its idiosyncrasies, like Ms George. This is the eighth mystery of a truly wonderful series. If you're new to the many travails of Mary Alice and Patricia Anne, start at the beginning and read them all. If you're already a fan, Murder Boogies With Elvis is just what you're expecting...a fun, entertaining, terrific read.

Summary: Southern Sisters lose author, not zest
Review: For those of us who have become dear friends of the Southern Sisters, that is Mary Alice, and Patricia Anne, we mourn over the loss of their creator, Anne George. Where you would read one of her books in a sitting, try to spread out your laughs for the high jinks these gals get themselves into, and enjoy the love of their family and friends. Can't suggest strongly enough if you've not read previous books, give yourself the gift of that joy, and those of us who are fans, let's reread with gusto.

The editor's notes and other reviews tell the plot, which is as wacky as the others, but I couldn't let this opportunity pass without thanking folks like Anne George for making us laugh and making us part of Southern Sisters' family. One only hopes others will care for Birmingham's Vulcan the way they do (and all Southerners)! Thanks Anne George and hope there are lots of laughs in Heaven!

Summary: I can't believe this will be the last
Review: I am a huge fan of Anne Carroll George. I love all of her books. "Murder Boogies with Elvis" is a wonderful continuation of her previous books. Her books are one continuing story of Patricia Anne, Mary Alice, Fred, Woofer - I could name them all but anyone who has read any of her books knows all of the characters by name, too. Unfortunately, the story is ending with this book. I am so sad that this is the last book. I want to "watch" Debbie's twin girls and Brother grow; I want to know about the birth of Joanna, Haley's baby; I want to know if Haley will let Patricia Anne keep Muffin when she and Philip return from Warsaw; I want to know about the next murder that Patricia Anne and Mary Alice will investigate. There are so many quirky characters whose lives make her books so interesting. It is very sad that Ms. George's life was cut short. I miss her, but at least we have the few books she wrote to keep us company.

This book is a must read for all fans of Ms. George. Her writing from one book to the next is so consistent - she never skips anything from one book to the next.

Summary: Depresed
Review: I couln't wait to get my hands on this last book. It made me feel like all the other Southern Sister books. I feel like a family that I love has moved away and I'll never see them again. I will reread them over and over again.

Summary: The last but not least from Anne George
Review: I have long been a fan of the sisters and am saddened to learn of the death of their talented creator. However, this novel is one of her funniest. Mary Alice is ready to marry Sheriff Virgil Stuckey, and wants She introduces Patricia and Fred to Virgil's family, and they all go to a fundraiser for the ever present statue of Vulcan. Virgil's son and son-in-law are Elvis impersonators and are featured in one of the acts. As a whole line of Elvi(?) do a dance on the stage, one of their number staggers to the edge and falls into the orchestra pit. He turns out to be a Russian ballet dancer, and an acquaintance of the daughter of one of Mouse and Sister's oldest friends. As if all this wasn't enough turmoil, Haley and Phil are due back from Warsaw, and Sister's oldest daughter, Marilyn is contemplating using the clinic at UAB to have a baby the same way Haley did.

Ms. George will be sorely missed. This is a fine example of one of her crazy mysteries. You can't help laughing out loud many times. The characters are pretty eccentric, but somehow they always fit in, and seem, if not ordinary, logical in view of the plot. They are always a quick read, and enjoyable, and this one is definitely not exception.

Summary: Boogies
Review: I have loved all of the Southern Sister books, and this one is one of the best. I was so sad to hear about Ms George, I hope someone picks up where she left off. We need to know what happens to all the folks that we have come to love and make us laugh out loud. These two sisters remind me of my sister and I when we get on one of our missions. If you haven't read the others they are a must even my father likes them and he is 81. A great read a sad loss.

Summary: FANTASTIC....LOVED IT
Review: I just love Mouse and Mary Alice, all their family and friends. This book was as usual fast paced, funny and kept me hooked. I kept trying to guess who the murderer was, and was glad it wasn't who I thought it was! I'm also glad that it answered the questions of marriages in the family, Haley and Phillips homecoming and baby. As I was plotting the release of the next book, I read about the author on the back flap and was saddened to find that she died this year. Thanks Ms. George for the wonderful books that I will read over again.

Summary: Did she know this would be her last?
Review: I loved this book. What made reading it poignant is that I knew this would be the last time I spent with these characters. Mouse, Aunt Sister, Fred, Woofer, Bubba on his heating pad ... what a delight this series has been! And this last installment was a joy, too. The mystery itself was okay. To be absolutely fair and honest, we weren't given that many real clues as to the villain's identity -- and usually I consider that something of a cheat. Still, I never read these mysteries simply to see how the crime is solved. I enjoyed these books -- and this one -- for the imagination and care that went into developing the setting, the characters and the dialog. Who but Ms. George could have combined a line of high-kicking Elvises and the missed-but-not-forgotten bare-butted Vulcan statue into the same stew? I was moved as I read the very last pages, for they seemed to be more final and included more closure than her previous efforts. She tied up the loose ends in both Sister's and Mouse's lives. I wonder if she knew this book would be her last. I join the other reviewers on this board who have said how much they will miss this series.

Summary: Fantastic
Review: I was heartbroken just reading this book knowing this would be the last of Mouse and Sister. Though Anne is gone she will never be forgotten. This is another installment of the Anne George mystery series that is a must read.
