Summary: 3 1/2 star story
Review: The basic premise of this book tells the story of a man's run for the presidency. Its a straight forward novel (forgive the redundancy) with few surprises. This is not a top of the line thriller by any means, but the storyline is fast and to the point. With the thrills being few, the story is more about the goings on behind the scenes, and the angst and glory that goes along with politics. There are some manipulative, as well as criminal, characters spread throughout the novel that give it an overall fast pace.

A quick read...

Summary: Woods for President!
Review:

I've been a Stuart Woods fan since NEW YORK DEAD and SANTA FE RULES.

I believe THE RUN is his best effort yet. This story about an honorable man's run for the Presidency is dead to rights. Although Woods acknowledges help from a Deputy Press Secretary in Ted Kennedy's office, he must have had other sources within the beltway because he misses nothing.

I didn't finish this book in one sitting because I wanted it to last. I hope we Woods' fans will have the opportunity to read more about William Henry Lee IV, his terrific wife, Kate, and his sharp-as-tacks parents. His presidency should be interesting.

This is a winner.

Enjoy!

Summary: the run is more of a trot
Review: as with other stuart woods books the plot moves along nicely, but a little predictable. the problem for me was the heavy handed political tone.if you like those good hearted democrates and hate those nasty house of representives republicans who voted to impeach bill clinton then the political tone will not bother you. if your politics prefers style over substance then you will like it. for example, canidate will lee insists on appointing an ethics advisor. he finds a perfect retired judge and introduces him with great fanfare, but then never consults him. oh well his intentions were good.

over all a light trot...not a hard run.

Summary: A Stuart Woods Fan
Review: I felt compelled to write a review of The Run after reading several reviews of Worst Fears Realized where readers claimed that Mr. Woods was loosing it, and not writing as well as he has in the past.

I was fortunate enough to have gotten hold of a copy of The Run several weeks before its release to the public. (I have an issue with waiting.) For those that claim Mr. Woods is not writing up to par, you MUST read The Run. He is at his very best here, and I believe he is setting us up for something wonderful in the future!

In The Run, Mr. Woods uses characters from one story (Swimming to Catalina, Grass Roots) and incorporates them into another. Something is brewing and I can't wait to find out what it is! Thanks Mr.Woods, I had a blast!

Summary: Thriller? Think again
Review: My local library had this book on display because it is a political thriller during this political season. Don't let the description fool you. It is not a thriller. The story line is good, but I think Woods went to print prematurely. Some of the actions of the mafia nut will, frankly, make you laugh and say "yeah right!" This book was written pre-9/11, but even back then the secret service would not look the other way when bomb sniffing dogs hone in on a "chocolate cake." They are not going to miss massive explosives under a podium at the DNC and they certainly are not going to miss a sniper rifle hiding behind a heat vent.

The suspense doesn't exist in the book and even if it did there are too many unbelievables to make the book intriguing.

Summary: Boring!
Review: I started skimming on page 23 and totally skipped a chapter just to end the agony. This book is not up to Stuart Woods usual standard. Try reading his "Chiefs" or "Santa Fe Rules" instead.

Summary: The best from Woods
Review: A rare find. A great book. A wonderful climax. Don't read this one at night. You could lose sleep over it. A tremendous thriller. A rare accord. Woods never disapoints.

Summary: Barely worth reading
Review: "The Run" is a simple-minded, cliche-ridden political thriller to be read only in airports when you need to kill some time. This is the story of a run for the Presidency by a moderately liberal, goody-good senator. The only non-cliche in the book is that he is from Georgia -- not usually considered a spawner of liberal democrats.

As usual, the villains are right-wing militia types. (Ho, hum, can't somebody come up with better bad-guys these days?) There are a lot of unexplained coincidences in the book. The huge political secret in American politics that underlies the plot happens to be known inexplicably by a federal prisioner in Georgia -- and just about everybody else. The hero has several miraculous escapes from death and political defeat and I'll let you guess the ending....

Woods to give him credit writes a tight tale and creates a certain amount of suspense. So, he gets three stars -- although he just barely qualifies as readable. But there are a hundred better political thrillers out there -- and most of them aren't anything great. Can't someone revitalize this genre?
