Rating: Summary: Donald Goines was da' BOMB Review: Back Then, I am talking about 1976. I was GREEN and this man handed me a box of books. Said you wanna live the night life, you wanna run the street. Read these, and then get back to me. It was all I could do to keep from starving. I read every book you got listed by the man. Black Girl Lost was the beginins. Then end was 8 years of pure adventure. Oh sure, I am old now and retired, and there are things I would like NOT be KNOWN. But memories.... You know the Been there done that commerical? dazzzz me. great books.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put the book down until I was finished. Review: Black Girl Lost is the second book that I've read by Goines. I was really turned on to Goines after Whoreson and Black Girl Lost was just as good as that book. You can see the impact that Goines has on young African Americans because one rapper named Nas, has written a wonderful song called Black Girl Lost, except it has more of a ninety's theme. I've read all except five books written by Goines.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book Review: Donald Goines did it again with this wonderful book about the most unlikely people falling in love. I was enamored with the characters plight and their young love for each other. It was insightful into the minds of what some people do to protect their loved ones. If I had to make some the choices Sandra, I would not have survived as she did. Wonderful to read. Parents should buy all of Donald Goines's books and let their children read them.
Rating: Summary: The Black Girl is Really Lost Review: Donald Goines really wrote a good book. The book actually kept me interested because by the time i seen the cover i was like i aint gonna read this book. But little did i know the book would turn out great. The story is basically about a black girl in the struggle, and her mother is no where around. She had to learn how to survive in the world on her own. She also had to deal with the cruelty of the children at school, because she was not well dressed like everybody else. When she was in her teenage years she began to steal, and she even got a job. Then something happened in her life that changed it, and i didn't know if it was for the better or for the worst.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book with a passion! Review: Donald Goins is one of the few Authors that can make me wanna stay up all night and read his books. I just learned about the Author a couple of years ago and I try to spread the word about his true tales of the ghetto. Black Girl Lost was so vivid, its almost as if he was writing about someone from my old neighborhood...
Rating: Summary: Blackgirl Lost is one of the greatest ghetto love stories Review: ever told. I've read all of Goines' books except for two, and I recommend each of them to you. But for those of us who enjoy true love and a real "ruffneck" in our corner then "Blackgirl Lost" is the book to read, and learn from.
Rating: Summary: THE BOMB Review: I am 14 yrs. old and this book was one of the many books that you can actually feels this person pain. This book is very moving and can reach different people in different ways. It might make you think about how much better you have it in this crule world. I'd recommend this book to anyone who is looking for love, heartbreak and youthfulness in a story.
Rating: Summary: GOINES DESERVES MORE ACCLAIM Review: I am hooked. This was the second Goines book that I have read, but it is so good, I'm making plans and clearing my schedule so I can read the rest of his oeuvre.Goines brings the characters of Sandra and Chink to life in a way few authors can bring characters to life. I felt as if I knew these people. I cringed at the choices they had to make to survive life, but I nodded knowingly that the choices they made were the only choices they knew how to make. Masterfully, Goines opens his tale by introducing the players, by laying the setting. Then, before the reader is sure of where the tale is going, Goines jerks you this way, then that. As a reader, you don't get settled in until the novel is three quarters done, but even then, you hope against hope that everything will work out. I don't want to ruin the ending for any future readers. You MUST read "Black Girl Lost". It will bring to life the way some children are forced to live. Goines brings to life the poor black neighborhoods, and introduces newcomers to the denizens of the streets. One final word of advice: Goines is not for the weak of heart or mind.
Rating: Summary: I can Relate Review: I can totally relate to the "Black Girl Lost". I've been on my own since I was thirteen and I've always had to do whatever I had to do in order to survive. That's exactly what Sandra did in the book. She did some dangerous things and she also put her life in jeopardy but through it all she survived. She stuck by her man until the end and she showed her devotion to Chink by taking his life so he wouldn't have to suffer. Chink was also devoted to her. As soon as he was told that Sandra was raped by those men he immdediately took action. They were meant to be together;they were soul mates.
Rating: Summary: i know alot of black girls lost... Review: i could feel the intensity of these characters. i wished them the best but inside i knew that their love was so pure and came from such a real place that it was doomed not to last. i was glad that sandra found someone to love her and glad that someone was able to see inside of chink to find that he actually had a really good heart. the way he thought of sandra was so endearing and at complete contrast to what was expected of his character. for this to have been written in the 70s i sure could have changed a few scenarios and it would have been just the same to say this happened just yesterday. in reference to her calling him daddy, which was kind of corny at times but come on dude, this is the 70s. all the 'cats' talked 'jive' like that. same thing happens in iceberg slim books. overall this is a great hood drama with characters that move. read and loan to a friend, i know i did
