Rating: Summary: Good Job Review: This is a good book. I found the story to be well thought out, well developed, and the twists in the plot quite surprising. Norm Harris has a style of his own and he did a great job of staying true to the creativity within him. I enjoyed the book very much and have recommended it to friends and family.
Rating: Summary: A Good First Novel Review: Norm Harris makes an excellent effort in his first novel, Fruit of A Poisonous Tree. The Book offers fast paced, and believable action. It could be an even better book with a little more character development, but as it is it is a solid effort with a strong plot. There are a few interesting plot twists to keep the reader on his or her toes.
Rating: Summary: Good story but... Review: ... I couldn't help but feel like I was reading a story written by a college freshman who just completed English Composition 101 and was simply demonstrating every basic rule of writing. His sentences are often choppy and his overuse of adjectives in places is obscene. I am just an average reader and no expert on writing but I was honestly very distracted to the point where I almost threw the book away after reading only a few chapters. Another distraction is the way the characters speak to each other. I spent 4 years in the Navy and nothing in the dialog was familiar or even believable at times. The story is pretty good, however, he needs another 100 pages or so to fully explain everything instead of peaking our interest then quickly moving on to something else. Also, he jumps from scene to scene (which is fine) but when he came back to an earlier scene I sometimes became confused because I couldn't remember reading about it beforehand. (It could also be that I fell asleep so often while reading this book.)All in all, I was pretty dissapointed but I give it 3 stars because I did finish the book despite all my criticism.
Rating: Summary: "This Navy Buff Sure Knows His Stuff!" Review: I enjoyed Mr. Harris' "Fruit of a Poisonous Tree" very much. I like strong, gutsy women...my favorite character in his Navy Thriller (Faydra Green) is certainly that...perhaps more. All of the characters in this story are well-developed and powerful. The dialogue orginal. And, the plot a real page turner. A very thrilling combination. If you are into Navy Thrillers with spice then "Fruit of a Poisonous Tree," is definately the book for you. Rating: Summary: Riveting Review: Norm Harris's book grabs the reader with its first sentence and holds the reader throughout with its fast paced action. Dialogue is always the hardest to write, but Harris has captured the art and with his writing keeps the reader turning pages, his ability to heighten the intrigue keeps the reader on the edge of his or her seat throughout the story Strongly recommend the book as a companion for these winter nights. CAPT David E. Meadows, US Navy Author of THE SIXTH FLEET and coming JOINT TASK FORCE series
Rating: Summary: "An Exciting Tale Of A Cover-Up" Review: Fruit Of A Poisionous Tree by Author Harris, is a poignant and believable tale of a military man (Sergeant Linn) who is accused of a murder he didn't commit and a spunky Jag Lawyer (Faydra Green) who is assigned to represent him. The plot is intriguing and pulls the reader swiftly into the fast-moving turmoil of a well-guarded cover-up. I thought Mr. Harris did an admirable job on his first outing. I can see why his book is mentioned on literally hundreds of listmanias the reason I purchased this book in the first place, (curiosity.)
Rating: Summary: "I think this book is as hot as the guy who wrote it" Review: I am a sucker for a guy in uniform. Like dah who isn't, right ladies? After reading this book, Norm Harris, quickly became one of my favorite writer's in this genre. The plot in "Fruit Of A Poisonous Tree" is so compelling I could not turn the pages fast enough. I think Norm Harris is right up there with Poyer and Meadows. No wonder this book is now being published in other countries and I understand that several movie makers are in a tug of war over the movie rights. Buy the book and judge for yourself. I think you will be impressed. (Sorry it has taken me so long to post a review Norm Harris, but I haven't written that many reviews and I never quite know what to say. Hope I did okay. Your lusty friend from Ohio.)
Rating: Summary: A book in desperate need of a proofreader Review: In college I had an upper-division comp class with a professor who knocked grades down one letter for each punctuation error. He would have a field day with this novel. Mr Harris might do well to review the rules of the use of the apostrophe before he self-publishes anything else. I found the constant errors distracting from an otherwise entertaining plot. I gave this book three stars because it wasn't awful, but it has a long way to go before becoming great. I was drawn to Fruit of a Poisonous Tree because there are so few novels with a military theme and a female protagonist. I actively seek this type of story out. I did find the adventures of the characters to be enjoyable, a little unbelieveable, (but I like that in my fiction) and engrossing. I found the book hard to put down because I wanted to know what was going to happen next. I'd give it a marginal recommendation, and I will continue to check for new novels by Mr. Harris. He has good ideas. I think that with a little more polish and direction his books will be very successful
Rating: Summary: Exciting Heroine, Entertaining Sidekick Sister Review: In author Norm Harris' debut novel, he has created a fascinating murder mystery successfully entwining multiple sub-plots to a climactic conclusion. Fans of legal thrillers, who-done-its, military fiction and even romance novels will find Fruit of a Poisonous Tree difficult to put down. The coup de grace, however, is Harris' development of an unlikely pair of heroines. The intense and earnest Faydra Green, a Navy Lt. Commander, is aided by her fun-loving, wise-cracking, yet somewhat obsessive sister, J.P., from the enlisted ranks. Together, these two daughters of a former U.S. President, combine their talents and attributes to solve crime. I look forward to seeing Faydra and J.P. tackle another mystery. So Mr. Harris...please...keep on writing! - Robert John Estko, author of the novel, "Evil, Be Gone"
Rating: Summary: Thrills and Intrigue Review: Norm Harris's fiction debut is a smashing success. It's a very well-researched thriller by an obviously knowledgable writer(other reviewers's comparisons to Tom Clancy are not off the mark)with believable characters that the reader can care about. I hope he's got more on the way!
