Summary: Mysterious...and Enjoyable
Review: Ron Hansen writes a beautifully sculpted novel that depicts a father's love and the trials of a confused mind.
Atticus is a lonely cattle rancher in Colorado, who finds out that his son, Scott has committed suicide. He then goes to Resurrecion, Mexico, and suspects murder. The plot is exploring the fundamentals of a tested relationship that tests the love of a father to a son. The revelation in the end gives the reader a frightening and unbelievable twist, making the novel wonderful from beginning to end.
Although, there are lagging scenes in the book, creating much more detail than needed, the plot makes up for that. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery with a lot of interesting twist.

Summary: Strengthening a father-son bond.
Review: Atticus by Ron Hansen, is a story about a father and the strengthening of his bond between one of his sons. Atticus Cody is a rancher from Colorado. After an enjoyable Christmas with his family, he gets a visitor saying his son Scott commited suicide. Atticus takes a long journey on the path of his sons suicide always suspecting a little more then suicide. To me Atticus has a few spots of confusion, there is much dialog and it is difficult to follow. Overall I give Atticus a "C+".

Summary: Great Mystery
Review: The book "Atticus" is about a father and his perilous journey to solve his son's suicide. The story really starts off after all the characters backgrounds have been given. Atticus Cody travels to Resurrection, Mexico in hopes of coming to terms with his son's death but finds more than he excepted. He believes that his son didn't commit suicide and he was murdered instead. Throughout the book Atticus is determined to solve his son's death no matter the cost. For the most part I think that the book was quite excellent. Except for the beginning and the end. The beginning starts off slow and the ending isn't quite what you would expect. Ron Hansen kept me interested through the whole book by creating a question that led to an answer that led to another question. In all I would recommend this book to anyone who is an avid murder mystery reader.

Summary: The Young and the Restless
Review: This was a great well-written book. Hansen is a master for putting this book together. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in a good read, especially a good mystery. It is also a awesome story of how much love this Father, Atticus, has for his son. The beginning definitely started off slowly but reading on, I could not put the book down. This book is about a Colorado Rancher, Atticus Cody and his crazy trip to Mexico. He goes to Mexico because he has received word that his son died. When he arrives in Mexico, it looks more like a murder then a suicide as previously thought. As the book goes on we see what happens to Atticus through the eyes of someone else and the story really comes together. This is not a book one can read lightly, because if they are to they might miss certain details that are needed to bring the book together. Overall, I am glad I read this book even though it was summer reading. I might even go pick up another Hansen book since he pays so much precision to detail. I loved this book, and I know you will also.

Summary: Atticus-slow and boring or was it?
Review: atticus was a very dull and boring book. the cover was what caught my eye, but as you open the book, you are immediately bombarded with information with is practically useless to know later into the book. the characters didn't compliment the plot. how is it a farmer's son be in so much trouble. and the father was really dull, yet he was an expert detective. What's that all about? A man's intuition?? Yet, there where points of the book that where very captivting and interesting. the plot for one. it was a great plot and all, its just that the choice of characters dragged the plot through the sludge. Also, the author had a nack for extremely descriptive writing. That is great for a mystery novel, but through the course of the story, the author seems to just get lazy and the writing goes down a notch. so to end this review, if your interested in a good mystery story read this book...only if you have the patience to get through the mediocure plot and characters

Summary: It was a book I read called, Atticus
Review: "Mr. Hansen writes vigorously, and like an angel."-New York Times Book Review. Even though, I was somewhat disappointed with this book. I didn't like the way Ron Hansen changed the point of view. I remember when reading this book I had to pay close attention to who was speaking. One moment I was in Colorado and the next I was in Mexico. It was very confusing. I also didn't like all the details. Everything was detailed to the smallest thing. "Atticus is a story of a father's steadfast and almost unfathomable love for his son, a mystery that Ron Hansen's fiction explores with a passion and intensity no reader will be able to resist."(back of book) It is true, although the writing was a little confusing and a little too detailed I did like the suspense that the book had. I found that even with all the details and sudden changes in the point of view it was hard for me to put this book down. It kept me going up until the end. Though I was somewhat disappointed with the way it was written in the end it was a stand up book.

Summary: Love Hate Relationship
Review: Atticus, a suicidal son mystery, was a classic example of a fathers love for his child. I started the book off, with curiosity, and excitement. I could'nt put the book down. After reading the first hundred pages, the book started getting a little redundant. The father's search dragged on and on, with no ground gained. At one point I lost hope in Atticus Finch, the father.

However, the book took a sudden turn for the better. The same curiosity and excitement in the first few chapters came back to visit me again. As my progression in this novel continued, the excitement increased as well. All I began reading was Love, Hate, Family, Action, Betrayal. What else does a reader need?
The ending satisfied my needs and capped off the father-son mystery.

The "love hate relationship" finally ended between the book and I. I recommend others to read it, and if you had the same feelings I did, I am more than thrilled to read your review.

Summary: Atticus: An exciting and suspenseful mystery.
Review: Ron Hansen's "Atticus" starts off slowly in the Colorado area. Atticus Cody is a Colorado Rancher and the father of Scott Cody, who is now living Mexico. He hears that his son has committed suicide and immediately decides to go down there to see what has happened. However, when Atticus arrives in Mexico, he begins to suspect murder. He uses his time wisely, while in Mexico, and begins to find some clues to his son's murder. Many suspicious events are tied together and later on the truth is unraveled from one of the interesting characters. Although this novel started out slow, it became more and more exciting as you read on. This story of a loving father and a troubled son was written beautifully. Hansen showed us, in this novel, just how well he can write and I plan to read another of his suspenseful books.

Summary: Slow But Good
Review: To begin this book was very slow and very boring. It seemed obsessed with useless and unnesasary details. However, after the story began to move, which wasn't until late in the book, it was pretty good. Ifelt what saved this story form being just another murder mystery was the final twist. Without them the sory would most likly have a very bland feeling. If you like twist and turns and don't mind waiting for them this book is for you.

Summary: Not bad for being summer reading
Review: A rancher in Colorado, Atticus Cody, a 67 year-old father, learns that his youngest son has mysteriously died. He thinks that this death is very suspicious, and quite often catches himself pondering about the real events of his son's death. Since he is so curious about his son's death, he decides to go down to Resurrecion, Mexico, so he can "investigate." When Atticus gets down to Resurrecion, he tries to find out as much information as possible about who his son hungout with, and where. The clues he finds out, lead him to think that his son was murdered. Then the dirty work comes into play for Atticus. He has to sneak around to figure out what really happened to his son. That's as much info as I should give about this book. If you want more information, go read it or look on sparknotes like everyone else does.
Ron Hansen's Atticus starts out as a very confusing book because of the constant changing in narration during the plot. As the book goes along, it seems to make a lot more sense as why to Atticus does certain things. People who enjoy mysteries like these because it has all the needed elements to keep you going. Like those people, I thoroughly enjoyed this book for my summer reading. As expected, there can be certain things that a person would not like in this book. The one thing that bothered me about this book was the constant narration changing, and the lack of name usage when the people are talking. Since the author decided not to use names as much as I would have wanted, it is easy to get lost in who is saying what. I think the positives outweigh the negatives in the book, so i give it a strong 4 stars. Whoever enjoys a well-rounded murder mystery book, should definitely think about reading this book!
