Summary: Wonderful Appalachian Based Book
Review: Clay's Quit is a wonderful work of writing. Silas House captures a lot of appalachian culture in his book. He shares the tight woven love that eastern KY people have for their families and heritage. Anyone from the Eastern KY area can identify with one or more of his characters. The quilts in our families always hold special sentiments that are dear to our hearts and souls just as Clay's was to him when he breathed in the sent of his mother from his quilt.

Summary: Cuddle up with Clay's Quilt
Review: Discovering a new author is one of my greatest pleasures. Silas House has a terrific future ahead of him. His book, "Clay's Quilt" was full of beautiful passages that propelled the story of Clay and his family right along. As a librarian, you can bet I'm recommending his book to all my patrons. I'm so tickled with his book that I'm reviewing it for National Library Week. Anita Paddock Fort Smith, Arkansas

Summary: Just Read It
Review: Forgive my prejudice, but I was initially skeptical about this book because it was set in Kentucky. I couldn't imagine a story set there telling me anything new about my own life. I was wrong, and this novel taught me that. The struggles of the characters in this book are universal and heart-breakingly real. I was surprised to find that even after finishing the book I thought about these people. I loved it so much that I want to take a trip to this "neck of the woods" to see where it played out. If it's anywhere near as beautiful as Silas House's prose, I may just stay there.

Summary: Don't miss it
Review: I enjoyed reading all the reviews of this book. I don't think I could add anything to them. I just want to encourage you not to miss this book. I came away loving the characters, the countryside and the wisdom of this little book. I look forward to reading more by Mr. House. One phrase that caused a lump in my throat was something to the effect that families, like seeds that are scattered, cannot grow. This book made me really think about family.

Summary: Breathtakingly Beautiful
Review: I first bought this book on a recommendation whim and was not expecting more than just a good read, but Clay's Quilt was far more! Within moments of first opening its pages, I was caught not only by the richly woven plot, but also by the characters who were unlike any I had met before. I found that I wanted to know them, and I imagined what they looked like and sounded like in my mind. I read it in two sittings and after leaving it, I couldn't wait to return to it. You will not regret putting time into this story and it will stay with you long after you've put it on your bookshelf.

Summary: What Appalachia truly is like
Review: I just finished reading Clay's Quilt and I loved it. I would recommend this book to anyone. It pulled me in and made me feel like I knew these characters like they were people I saw and talked to everyday. Living in the area that this book is based on I am really proud to say this book captures the true essence of Kentucky, the family ties, the things they do. Just to wrap it all up I would have to say this is one of my favorite books of all time and once again I would recommend this book to everyone. Read it I promise you will love it to!!

Summary: A Wonderful Book
Review: I just finished _Clay's Quilt_ and I want everyone to read it. I usually don't write reviews, but this book really moved me and I plan on making all of my friends buy a copy. I can't think of the last time I ever read about a more realistic family and the main character really got to me. All of the characters are engaging: I feel as if they are people I know. Although the book is set in a very specific region, it's universal story will appeal to anyone who has ever searched for themselves. More than a coming of age story, _Clay's Quilt_ is about the inner-workings of a close family, love for the land (House's attention to nature is superb), and a yearning for _more_. Beautifully crafted as well as being a Good Read, this book was just what I needed this weekend. Don't miss out on it.

Summary: My Favorite Book
Review: I loved this book because I felt as if I had met a new family and become life-long friends with them. They became very real to me, and I missed them once I finished the book. The book is filled with music and magic and good people. There is something about House's writing that is downright incredible. Don't hesitate to buy this one...it will stay with you a long while. Now that I've been talking about it, I think I'll go read it again. Beautiful, poetic and haunting.

Summary: Great Book!
Review: I loved this book. I received it for mother's day and cried from sadness and joy while reading it. I heard they were going to make this into a movie, but I hope they don't, since the author has described everything so wonderfully that I have it all pictured in my head. I have been telling everyone I know to read this book. It's great.

Summary: My world
Review: I was impressed with the novel as a first attempt from Silas House, but I was a little disappointed with the predictable nature of the story. Perhaps I knew how the story would go because it takes place in a setting just a stone's throw from where I live. I liked the characters, but, I did sometimes feel that House made them and the specifics of the story a little "more Appalachian" than southeastern Kentucky really is in modern times. I suppose it bothered me that House might have been quick to give readers who aren't familiar with Kentucky exactly what they expected - coal miners, bar fights, domestic violence, teenage marriages and people living in houses they built themselves. I wished it was clear that this is not an "everyday" situation here in southeastern Kentucky.
