Rating: Summary: Worth the time to read Review: As a long time fan of Mr. Hunter, Time to Hunt was satisfying: Better than Dirty White Boys, the language wasn't as foul and the plot was engaging. As usual, Mr. hunter knows his firearms and that technical mastery is not lost on even the novice gun owner. When coupled with an exciting plot involving aging enemies with much to lose for Swagger, you won't be able to put this book down. Except for a relaxing dose of "Burbon and Branch". Read it.
Rating: Summary: Silent Souls Leave .308 Holes Review: I can only hope that Mr. Hunter will continue the "Bob Lee Swagger Series". This great ride just cannot be over yet! There are several "military-thriller" novels out there, but Mr. Hunter's well researched and very detailed writing style is unmatched. If you have not read "Point of Impact or Blacklight", in that order, then do so and prepare for a great experience! Mr. Hunter, thank you for shedding the light on some real issues such as PTSD. Very Thorough! The Best!
Rating: Summary: A Time to Hunt Review: This book is a thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I had to force myself to put it down at times. just the best book i have ever read.
Rating: Summary: My first Hunter's novel but not the last one Review: I am far frow being addicted to war novels. Usually I hate them. But I couldn't put down this book till I was finished. I loved it! Sure I will buy another.
Rating: Summary: Hunter Does It Again Review: First off I should let it be known that I am a fan of the Bob Lee Swagger novels and I also thought that Dirty White Boys was a good read. Stephen Hunter's first novels showed promise but they were awkward. They came across as trying to be works of literature. But with Point Of Impact Hunter found his stride. For those who are involved with the "gun culture" this series is superb. The technical details are dead on. But in Time To hunt Swagger comes full circle. The great American war hero finally finds peace with himself and has a re-match with his nemisis. This novel is more then just a suspense/thriller. In Time To Hunt Hunter finally achieves a level of literature and the best part of it is he isn't trying. Slow moving? No it trys to capture the pacing of real life. Rest assured though when the action happens it happens in buckets. Being from Idaho I especially enjoyed the sequence in the Sawtooths. If I have any complaint and it is minor is the fact that there are two hospitals in Boise. There is no Boise General Hospital.
Rating: Summary: Hunter could make the telephone book interesting Review: I've never been a big fan of prologues, in fact, I'm the one one person in America who hasn't seen the new Star Wars. Typically, prologues only fill in wholes in the original story. Not here. "Time to Hunt" answers questions, of course, but it actually makes me want to re-read the entire series of books. We always knew that Bob Lee was a BMF (see Pulp Fiction, wink), but we never really knew how Bad he was. We never really given an explanation for the awkwardness he feels in the 'world' or the awkwardness of his relationship with Julie Fenn. For those reasons, and many more, this book works with me. I whole-heartedly recommend the Swagger series to any and all (but frankly, start at the beginning, not here)Now this brings us to the next problem, will there be a fifth in the series? The rousing adventures of Nikki Swagger? (Nah!) A meeting between Swagger and Pewtie (from DWB)? (That'd work). Any way Hunter does it...I'll be there!
Rating: Summary: Hunter is the master of his domain! Review: I loved Point of Impact. I feel like I know "Bob the Nailer" just by Hunter's great detail. I can't wait to get started on Time to Hunt!Thank you Mr. Hunter for such great writing that keeps me hooked the whole way through!
Rating: Summary: More Please Stephen Hunter Review: I just finished Time to Hunt in two obsessed days of intense thrilling reading. I immediately went out the next day and found Black Light and read it just as quickly. I had read Point of Impact when it first came out. Time to Hunt is one of the very best novels I have read. Although characterized by some reviewers as slow, the beginning of the book helped create the same feeling of transcendence as Gone with the Wind did for me years ago. I liked it as well as Point of Impact, better than Thayer's White Star (also outstanding), but not as good as my all time favorite of this genre, Clancy's Without Remorse. Any of you who have not read Time to Hunt (or Without Remorse) must get it today and call in sick from work; you will not be able to put them down.
Rating: Summary: The best of the best Review: After reading point of Impact I thought that I had read Hunter's best... But this was even better. A great read.
Rating: Summary: Hollywood Style Sniper Showdown Review: This was my first Stephen Hunter novel and I thought it was very good. The unveiling of the plot was well thought out and kept me turning pages. But the sniper showdown was WAY to Hollywood for me. That was very disappointing but after that, it picked up again. The real final showdown was quick and to the point. I was expecting some silly Hollywood ending again but that one worked...bravo.
