Rating: Summary: BRAVO TO STEPHEN HUNTER AGAIN!! Review: TIME TO HUNT CAPTURES THE READER QUICKLY FOR A FAST-PACED THRILLING RIDE FROM THE ARIZONA MOUNTAINS TO WASHINGTON D.C. FOR A JOLTING ENTRY TO VIETNAM. WITHOUT ANY KNOWLEDGE ABOUT GUNS, I WAS ABLE SEE INTO THE FASCINATING WORLD OF THE MASTER SNIPERS, BOB LEE SWAGGER AND SOLARATOV. THE INTRICATE DETAIL OF EACH SHOOTING TURNS THE NOTCH UP TO A BREATH-HOLDING MOMENT FOR THE READER. "BOB THE NAILER"COMES MORE ALIVE WITH HUMAN FAULTS AND FAILINGS IN THIS LATEST BOOK. LANCE CORPORAL DONNY FENN PROVES TO BE A GENUINE MARINE IN HIS EXPERIENCE WITH THE LONG-FORGOTTEN VIETNAM ERA. I COULD FEEL ALL THE CONFLICTS OF THAT TIME PERIOD THROUGH ALL THE CHARACTERS THAT EXISTED WITH HIM. THE ANXIOUS MOMENTS FROM SOLARATOV'S CROSSHAIRS ON HIS TARGETS, TO BOB'S TENSION-FILLED PARACHUTE JUMP, GRIPPED AND HELD ME BREATHLESS WHILE READING. I THINK FANS AND NEW READERS WILL ENJOY THIS THRILLER AND EAGERLY AWAIT STEPHEN HUNTER'S NEXT NOVEL.
Rating: Summary: Bob the Nailer is a hit Review: Bob the Nailer is back! He gets a bit more complicated in each novel. I don't think that I could have put the book down if I had tried. This was better than 'Black Light' but not quite 'Point of Impact'. The plot was filled with suspense. But, be careful--Bob will 'Nail' you and you will be hooked! Very good.
Rating: Summary: Action Packed! Review: A brilliant book by Hunter once again. Sniper bad asses, crooked government agents, and enough bullets to support a Civil War! Hunter once again proves he's the best thriller writer around. His best book to date!
Rating: Summary: Magnificent Read. Review: Excellent book. Opening with a sniper shooting someone in the Arizona dessert, taking you to the very depths of Vietnam. Time to Hunt was a terrific read, fast paced, exciting, thrilling. Unlike some of Stephen Hunters earlier work on "Bob the Nailer", this one combines excellent writing with detailed historical descriptions. Stephen Hunters very best ineed.
Rating: Summary: A vey entertaning book. Review: I have read all of Stephen Hunters' previous novels.I have read some of them more than once, The Bob the Nailer trilogy, are some of the most entertaining and interesting books I have read. Having said that, I must say that Time to Hunt was a bit flawed in the flashback style of the story. Only because it confused me at first. Once I understood what was going on,it really took off for me. In this book Bob becomes a human being more than the sniper extrordiaire. His motives are less remote and more understandable. I really enjoyed the book. If you enjoye the previous Bob the Nailer novels you'll love this one.
Rating: Summary: I'm a shooter.... Review: I like 'em all... For different reasons... But Time to Hunt really, to me, got inside the aging Bob Lee... All he wants to do is settle down, and get away from the past that haunts him. He's not the sniper anymore. He doesn't WANT to be the sniper. But it keeps surfacing, deadlier and deadlier... and he becomes the sniper again. I suspect that the Kirkus folks need to rethink a little - maybe get away from the "guns are bad" routine that seems so popular among some folks.. The U.S. has had several men similar to Bob Lee - Alvin York, Audie Murphy, Hathcock, etc., and the one thing they have in common is that they have little in common with their critics... They may not have ivy league educations, they may not know which fork to use at one of those fancy sit down dinners, and they may be just a little rougher around the edges than some folks would prefer, but it's good that we have 'em. When we don't have 'em anymore, we'll find ourselves needing them. Thanx to the author for doing his homework - If he's ever going to be in St. Louis, and wants to go shooting, he's welcome e-mail me and we'll figure out some excuse...
Rating: Summary: Third gem Review: Absolutely outstanding fiction. Didn't think Hunter could best Black Light, but that is what he did. Congrats to the author!
Rating: Summary: Good plot. stereotyped characters Review: Fans of other Stephen Hunter books will not be disappointed in his new offering. Bob Lee Swagger returns and, like the other Swagger novels, the characters are mostly stereotypes but the author makes up for it in plotting, good well paced action and a Tom Clancy like bent for the details of the craft of violence. Though the Swagger character is little more than a John Wayne type and the attempt to give him faults falls flat the reader can't help but like him and root for him. That must be the strength of the writing then. If you liked Point of Impact or Black Light, as I did, you will also enjoy Time to Hunt. Nothing fancy, but a cut above the average thriller for sure.
Rating: Summary: Great character, great plot, great action, great read Review: I've also read all of the Bob Lee Swagger books and this is as good as all the others. Keep em coming Steve.
Rating: Summary: This is not the same Bob Lee Swagger as in Point of Impact. Review: Stephen Hunter creates really wonderful, believable characters, which is why I found A Time to Hunt so frustrating. The Bob Lee Swagger in this book is an ignorant cracker, not the grammatically correct man in whose head we spent so much time in Point of Impact and who, according to Dr. Dobbler in that previous book "graduated from high school where he got--this is perhaps not as amazing as it seems--excellent grades." I'm confounded by why the author "dumbed down" this wonderful character in this sequel. He became a much less compelling character.
