Rating: Summary: A Slamming good time! Review: 3 children walk into Elvis Cole's office and want to hire him to find their father. Elvis agrees. I must tell you about the audio version that I rented from my library. The reader was a Michael Pritchard who made Elvis sound like Paul Harvey reading the international news! What a hoot! After I got used to his speech pattern, I got into the book and the ride back and forth to work was a breeze. The book, of course, was excellent. Elvis and Joe are great together. I live for the wisecracking! The story was exciting and a little different. Another good read from Robert Crais.
Rating: Summary: Elvis Rules! Review: Another great Elvis Cole novel! Lots of plot, great quirky characters, the romance heating up between Elvis and Lucy, action galore and a great Disney-Land finale. If you want to be up until dawn reading great mystery, pick up a copy of any Robert Crais novel. You will be glad you did!
Rating: Summary: Robert Crais is simply THE BEST!! Review: As a huge Robert Crais fan, I of course have to say that INDIGO SLAM is a great novel! Elvis Cole has always been my favorite private eye, and this time he and Joe Pike take on the Russian Mafia along with Federal Marshalls to find the father of a young girl and her two younger siblings. Like the other novels in this great series, there's plenty of action and suspence that will keep your attention up to the very last page. Do yourself a favor and pick up this book today. I gaurantee you will not be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: The book was good, the tape was something else. Review: As a reader (who ever) the man sounds just like the old newscaster Walter Winchel. I wish all of Roberts books on tape could be read by Barrett Whitener. He would really give Joe Pike a good sound.
Rating: Summary: Another Solid Performance Review: Crais' Elvis Cole series does not have a weak link. This was another typically strong effort. Although you need not have read prior books in the series, it would not hurt to know the characters. The author does ot leave his characters stagnant but continues to make them grow so you feel you know them personally. In Elvis Cole, Crais somehow combines the hard-boiled LA private eye of the old-time genre with a character who possesses sympathy and a sense of humor. All his characters are believable. With the exception of his partner, Pike, there are never any superhuman efforts. In Indigo Slam, Crais has woven a terrific plot with twists that just keep coming. Not only does the mystery plot twist and turn, but so do the characters. Until the very end, the reader never really knows about either the plot nor the characters. If you are an ardent reader of this series (as I am), you will be pleased to know that this is one of the better ones. If you have never read the series, be ready for some very enjoyable mystery reading.
Rating: Summary: Robert Crais has another Elvis Cole winner. Review: Easy to read and most enjoyable. Robert Crais has created a most interesting PI with many wonderful quirks and a great sense of right and wrong. Love the wisecracks and asides that are a big part of the Elvis Cole persona. Colorful characters populate this one: a conterfeiter in the witness protection program, the Russian Mafia, Vietnamese revolutionaries, the Feds (some with dubious qualities) as Elvis and Pike attempt to reunite the counterfeiter with his three children. No problem to follow, good pacing, a good surprise at the end, a satisfying conclusion and just plain hard to put down. This is an extraordinary series with a certain noir quality that would translate well to film, especially if played like the "Thin Man" series.
Rating: Summary: Fun and Easy Read Review: Elvis and his partner, Joe, were asked by three children to find their missing father. Their father was a printer, the eldest said. However, Elvis and Joe soon discovered that that was not the whole truth and the situation went far deeper than finding a missing father who was a printer. The Russian mafia and US Federals joined in the chase. With a pinch of the Elvis-Lucy and her ex-husband triangular romantic mess added to it, this is another Elvis Cole novel worth reading. Elvis Cole novels are one of the greatest discoveries I¡¦ve made during the year. To me, it is a typical fun book to read, having a nice and courageous guy as the hero, always easy and entertaining to read.
Rating: Summary: Robert Crais is one of my favorite authors Review: Elvis Cole is a charming, sharp witted, wise-cracking private investigator who is teamed up with a Clint Eastwood type partner, Joe Pike. His novels are fast paced, and entertaining enough to make me laugh out loud. My favorite Elvis Cole novel is L. A. Requiem. It focuses on Joe Pike. Crais' writing is on a completely different level in this one. I highly recommend his books. I have read all but his newest: Demolition Angel. I can't wait to read it!
