Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Disappointed Review: As another reviewer states, the plot seems to be borrowed direcly from COMA. Only a few incidental ornaments have been changed. The only new message in this book seems to be that accomplished women swear like sailors. What disappointed me most was that the story, and its author, showed considerable promise in the first few pages of this book. Then it falls apart. That the author occassionaly revealed glimpses of writing talent on a page here and there only added to my frustration. I have not read any other books by this author and don't plan to do so.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: ORGAN GRINDING Review: Tess Gerritsen's initial medical thriller, "Harvest" is an outstanding entry into the medical suspense genre. Gerritsen has a crisp, terse style that combines both her expertise in the medical field with an ability to create fascinating plots and well-developed characters. The chilling subject of organ transplants is unveiled in a chilling and macabre scenario, with the reader wondering just who is the real culprit in this horrifying tale. I found the "master mind" behind the crimes a surprise, although there are others involved that aren't so surprising. Nonetheless, Tess keeps you riveted to the plot. She is able to inject medical information that is important without becoming too "technical". The characters of Abby, the detective Kashka, and the young Yakhov are the most interesting characters, and the climax is both shocking and touching. My only "criticisms": the ending happened so fast, it would have been nice to see Abby's reaction to how things ended up; and what happens to Kashka and Yakhov? And, I was puzzled by who instituted the lawsuits, and why they removed them? Other than that, this is certainly a precursor to the fine novels Ms. Gerritsen continues to write. Chilling!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Take It from someone who knows Review: I read this book in two days. I had previously read Tess' other two books, Life Support, and Bloodstream. While both of those were excellant reads, Harvest was the best. She combines page turning suspense, with an professional and insightful medical touch. She does not use medical jargon that would confuse the readers either. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a thrill ride. Gerritsen is an amazing author, up there in talent with the best of Medical Suspense Writing. Well worth your time.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: a medical suspense quickie Review: Harvest is an enjoyable and easy read. The storyline is somewhat predictable especially since the book jacket gives away a lot of it. My main complaint about the book concerns the characterization of anyone with religious beliefs as being silly(Jewish funeral and mourning traditions) or fanatical and out of touch with reality(Brenda Hainey character). This kind of characterization has become so typical of mainstream media; I'm really sick of it. A more creative writer would have gone to more effort to fill the role of Brenda Hainey with something other than the stock religious fanatic. In fact, the book is replete with stock characters. If you can get past this and take the book for what it is--a medical suspense quickie--then you'll enjoy the book.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: a good book Review: This book moves along quickly while you're reading it but the real suspense, page turnig part of the book doesn't really kick in until 3/4 of the way into it. The story was very predictable, the dust cover gives away alot of it. Not a lot of character development. A good, quick read.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: A "COMA" Repeat Review: This was the first book I have read by Tess Gerritsen. 30 pages into the book I knew basically where it was going as this is a conceptual repeat of "Coma" by Robin Cook. The details are different and quite interesting but I don't like knowing where a book is going after 30 pages. If you haven't read "Coma" then you will really like this book. If you *have* read "Coma" then spend your time on another book by Tess Gerritsen.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Excellent Book! Couldn't Put it Down . . . Review: Prior to reading Harvest, I read and enjoyed Bloodstream and Life Support. This book is even better than those two! It is definitely one of those read-in-three-days books because you cannot put it down. Finding out that it was written prior to Bloodstream and Harvest, I was worried that perhaps it would not be as good - as many authors' earlier books are often not as good as their more recent books. I am pleased to say I was very wrong; I would definitely recommend this book be read before any of her others - it is excellent in all respects. Thank you Tess!
